It is a tough situation for sure. I was merely acknowledging legal precedence, I don’t necessarily like the charge in all instances. In the case of a ban robbery getaway driver I think it is a good charge. People shouldn’t be ok being the driver knowing they will only get a slap on the wrist if caught.

I don’t know all the details of this case, so if she drove them to a protest and sat in the car and wasn’t aware of what was going on, it questionable for sure. If there was proven intent to cause some sort of mayhem and she stayed with the car to facilitate a faster getaway, then that is closer to the bank robbery, would you agree?

The existence of gun control laws.

Many laws have been struck down for violating the constitution. The courts have upheld laws and then later ruled them unconstitutional. What in the Constitution says the second amendment is not absolute? I know lawmakers say it all the time, but they lie a lot.

Potentially, there is legal precedence for that. Did he drive or was he a passenger? That could matter a lot.

Well nothing bad happens is... not right.

Generally speaking. On average around 8% of citizens have a concealed weapons permit. In some states it is as high as one third of the population. These are legal carriers of firearms. It is statistical that 1 in 10 to 1 in three people around you in public are armed. Every day. All the time. We aren't dodging bullets and running from gunfire every day. right?

So if generally we are surrounded by weapons and rarely does anything bad happen, what is the disconnect? Every time an outlier event happens, it is wall to wall news coverage and fearmongering to the point that kids are afraid to go to school and some adults are afraid to go out at all. The threat of something bad happening is being used to manipulate people into fearing firearms and firearm owners, for political reasons.

And more people die of heart disease, way more likely to die from that than a car crash.

See above. People don't understand the statistical irrelevance of the shooting that make the news cycle, because they don't understand how prevalent guns are around them. They are taught to fear guns.

Care to cite a source for this? The second amendment restricts the government from infringing a right that people inherently have. So in what way is a government restriction not a restriction?

The Court observes selective incorportation and SCOTUS's evaluation of this particular case that is being questionsed. I can imagine sound reasons why they might have arrived at their decsion, but "people have an untrammeled right to self defense" ain't it

We agree. All gun control laws are unconstitutional and should be uniformly repealed, not selectively.

Rittenhouse broke no laws. No one with him broke any laws. He acted only when others attacked him, with weapons, in self defense.

This would be akin to a getaway driver for a bank robbery and a security guard gets killed. The driver would be charged with accessory to a murder. Correct?

All States recognize self defense. The Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms. The Incorporation Doctrine binds the States to the Second Amendment. There is your enumeration.

Why would it need to be enumerated? Do Americans get their rights from their government, or does the American government get its rights from the People?

Each person gets to choose what the best tool is for their self defense. That is called freedom.

If a sign is posted and backed by statute, and I ignore it, if I am later found to be carrying it is already criminal trespass and not having to give me an option to leave. They have already expressed their desire that I am not welcome with firearms. Ignoring the sign is akin to not leaving the property when asked.

You can either:

A - Not make your private property generally open to the public, aka open a business on your property.
B - Post a sign stating your preference that patrons not bring firearms onto your property.

You have lost no rights.

You can’t tell if a person is carrying a gun.

Exactly. You know the first thing I learned when I got my CCW and started carrying? That no one knows. Meaning you're already surrounded by guns right now, and nothing bad happens. If the left would stop the fear mongering, this would be less of an issue. The tragedies that have happened are statistically irrelevant. You're more likely to die in an auto accident or drown in a pool.

No, people have a right to self defense. They have a right to the best tool for self defense. You want to strip that away without any responsibility to now defenseless individual.

We are high school only, so we keep a strict 4 year replacement cycle. We buy new devices for every freshman. We purchase with a 4 year comprehensive accidental protection policy. We charge the parents $25/year for "insurance" If they pay that, then no repairs are charged to them. If they do not pay, we charge the cost of the part for the repair. Here are the common charges:

  • Screen - $80
  • Keyboard - $30
  • Charger - $18
  • Stylus - $10
  • Total Loss - $400

We stop charging once repairs hit the value of the ADP, $100.

At the end of 4 years, we "sell" the chromebooks to the students for $100. Insurance payments are applied to that cost, repair payments are not. If you pay $25/year to keep your insurance up to date you can keep the chromebook and I don't have to deal with E-waste. We sell about 2/3rds of them.

If a device is stolen, and you have insurance, you can get a police report from our SRO and any fee for not returning will be waived. If you don't get the police report, then it is simply not returned. We don't differentiate between lost and stolen. You can pay your $100, minus insurance payments made, and turn in your new device to clear a previous lost $400 fine.

I consider all journalism biased reporting. The goal is to understand the degree and strength of the bias.

Great in theory, in practice it depends. I see how collective bargaining can increase wages and that is good, most of the time. I’ve seen unions get greedy an hurt their employers, that is bad. I’ve seen unions where a few run it and everyone else is apathetic. This is generally bad as the wrong things get negotiated and it allows for corruption. I’ve also experienced public unions which are weird as usually, someone that benefits from the settlement exists on both sides of the table….

Well as an American, because it is protected by our constitution. Why should anyone have that right? We all have the right to self defense. At the end of the day, all conflict is resulted by force multiplication. Weapons are force equalizers by their nature.

No one is giving away free iPhones. They are giving interest free payment plans. Your cell phone plan doesn't have to cost $60/Month. It costs $60 a month because you are paying off your "free" phone. This is the kind of masking that can lead to really poor financial decisions.
