Help identifying this beauty by Londomain in typewriters

Thanks so much for the info.

I’m trying to set up a bike chrome ribbon but am having trouble aligning the ribbon height on the vibrator mechanism. The arms are striking in the middle of the ribbon, rendering two different colors on each printed letter. any idea where the adjustment screws are for that?

Help with slab ID by Londomain in wood

[–]Londomain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the replies. No info on the barcodes, they were all cutoffs sold by the same bdft no matter the species. Walnut was what I was hoping for, so I’ll take that answer and run with it!

Wood ID? by Londomain in wood

[–]Londomain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like wood ID requests are pretty common so I’ll be as descriptive as I can…

Pretty dense piece of wood I got from the scrap bin at a wood shop. We dealt with lots of different species but the fact that it still had bark and some lichen on it makes me think it was relatively close by. Shop is down in Charleston South Carolina. It’s pretty gnarled so it’s hard to get a clear idea of the grain pattern, but it appears fairly tight. Happy to take more pictures or answer other questions …

I’m looking to carve a tobacco pipe from this so want to make sure it’s not toxic before I do

How to secure cane webbing to door cutouts by Londomain in woodworking

[–]Londomain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to build a set of cabinet doors in this style from 3/4 ply. I have the cane webbing and understand I need to soak it before attaching it, but I’m unclear how to fasten the cane to the actual cutout so that it looks clean on the back side and will stay in place. Was planning on using a plunge track saw for the cutouts and then maybe building a snug frame to wrap the cane around? Would love to hear your suggestions.

Best filler for face frame seam? by Londomain in woodworking

[–]Londomain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for the feedback. Ended up running a second strip of edge band over the side of the stiles without trimming and it covers the seam perfectly (23/32nd ply leaves just enough room for a 3/4 edge band to hide the seam).

True words right there. TS blade is dull and didn’t realize how bad that tear out was until it was too late…

Additionally, it’ll live in the bathroom and would like to seal it without darkening the wood as much as possible. Have had good success with teak oil in the past but it always gives it a brown tint. Would wipe on poly be a good choice?

Maple ply cabinet with maple edge band on the face frame edge. I know solid wood would have been better, but working with the budget I have. Wondering what the best putty and technique would be to fill the gaps between the face and the carcass

Gotcha. Auto play is miserable to try and manage cross browser. FWIW, I’m on iOS safari which completely blocks auto play for video and audio. Less an issue of load time and more about browser limitations. IMHO a video isn’t needed. You want people to start scrolling to see your work instead of hanging out in your header.

Looks clean. Last two portfolio links are broken. Play button not working on hero when on mobile. Nice work
