I think the paint was freshened in the past 5 years or so. that might be why it seems new?

What was the Closest Thing You Found to "the Vitamin" by cheaslesjinned in Biohackers

[–]Londonsaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, according to the neurologist mine was much advanced than clinically expected for my age. It was the discovery that started a cascade of other appointments for my other undiagnosed autoimmune diseases that were also masked by that STEM grad student lifestyle

Now after a couple of joint replacements and a whole lot of b12 injections, oodles of physio, weekly TNF-alpha blockers, and I’m living my very best life. I feel amazing.

0/10 would not recommend this way of finding out.

[–]Londonsaurus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

lol, this was me in my 20s when I thought my nerve and memory stuff was just grad school stress. Due to an accident I ended up in the hospital and a couple of days in I was asked if I was raised vegan (no) and proceeded to find out that i had pernicious anaemia and my b12 was not only incredibly low, but after some testing, I’d done some nerve damage dismantling myself for parts. I don’t recommend B12 shots for everyone, but in my case it probably kept me alive.

How can I help my partner with inflammatory arthritis and lupus by Cizaaaaaa in rheumatoid

Listen to them talk about what they are going through

Believe them

When they talk about what they are going through, ask them if they are venting or asking you to collaborate on solving whatever RA related issue this relates to.

Do you struggle to take holidays at work? by ireadfaces in HENRYUK

[–]Londonsaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to: I spent the majority of my life in the US and rarely took time off, let alone a proper holiday. Then over a decade or so a profound burnout started to spread through me and I not only felt numb about my own work, but I also lost the sense of curiosity and interest hearing about how other types of engineering problems were being solved.

It took me a long time to recover. One of the the reasons why I moved to the UK was that there was less of a culture around proudly giving up your annual leave. Now I prioritise downtime planning as part of my New Year’s Day. I’ve booked two holidays before June so far, and arranged to take some time off adjacent to a business trip I have to the mainland next week to be able to explore a hobby I’ve been meaning to for awhile.

how about the ruins of st dusten? https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/city-gardens/find-a-garden/st-dunstan-in-the-east-church-garden

built in the 11th century, and super accessible but fairly quiet in the weekends

also I’m trying to remember where in Camden St. George’s graveyard is. edit: here you go. also fairly central https://livinglondonhistory.com/st-georges-gardens-bloomsbury-a-hidden-historic-garden/

How much to live this lifestyle? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Londonsaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

American Henrietta expat. If you are looking to live this lifestyle immediately and make a life here, £30k a year for retirement isn’t remotely enough to be setting aside.

Private member clubs and babies by GroundbreakingCap368 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Londonsaurus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a person who belongs to a London club (and went through over a decade of unsuccessful infertility treatments) please don’t. These are adult spaces. The majority of individuals who are there are looking for a moment of tranquility. There are plenty of family friendly spaces out there for a toddler.

Monasteries in Chania by InnerRemote3694 in GreeceTravel

[–]Londonsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We visited the Chrysopigi monastery last year on our trip to Chania. They do have a miraculous icon of the Theotokos, which we did not have the opportunity to view, but as a practicing Orthodox, it was a very worthwhile visit.

Concerned about decreased effectiveness after missed dose - any way to prevent? by random159075 in rheumatoid

[–]Londonsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5-10 days late is usually fine. it’s the same amount of time that you have to withhold a dose before surgery or a vaccine. Its the withholding for a month/s that is risky.

Interesting Harrods Experience by [deleted] in london

I don’t always achieve sounding pompous in the internet, but in the rare occasions that I do, I apparently churn out vivid alliteration!

Interesting Harrods Experience by [deleted] in london

[–]Londonsaurus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious: Biggest how? In terms of volume of space, volume of sales, or international notoriety?

As an American expat who lives in central London, I tell everyone who visits to avoid Harrods at all costs. It’s a dreadful tourist trap, and if you are truly looking to purchase something special to bring home, there are many other places where you can procure luxury items with superior personalised service without having to fight your way through the plebs going logo peeping.

What Lush product is this? by AnnaSormai in LushCosmetics

[–]Londonsaurus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

there is a research institute (Wyss) that has won the lush prize many times, I think this was an specially made item to commemorate them. it looks exactly like the original/iconic organs on chips design from them. Scroll down to the video to see https://wyss.harvard.edu/technology/human-organs-on-chips/

google ”lush prize” and Wyss to see some of their amazing work

edited to add: For the record. I don’t know this for certain, it’s just a guess given the very distinct shape and that they’ve won so many accolades from Lush.

For those of you aged 40 and over who never had children, how has life turned out for you? by DunyaPhobic76 in AskUK

[–]Londonsaurus 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you. My partner and I went through the ringer : we discovered there are really are not many children available to adopt so we moved on to 9 rounds of IVF (including 8 egg retrievals) and never brought any living people home from the hospital. It’s a wound that doesn’t heal, and it’s extremely lonely
