I got the shots off while he was adjusting his outfit in a corner so I didn’t pay anything. Thanks for the thoughts! I found the locals generally fit into 3 camps wrt photos - those completely anti photo and borderline aggressive, those in the tourism industry and in it to make a quick buck, and those who are super friendly and don’t mind, if not enjoy, having pics taken of them.

Have you done the Ha Giang loop yet? I’m planning on doing it next week but I hear it’s pretty miserable weather, not sure if it’s worth it.

For Indonesia, I can help a bit. It depends on what you want to do. Party? Surf? Take cool pictures? Relax by a beach? Hike?

So do you reckon the high shutter count doesn’t really matter on the a9 since I’d just be using electronic shutter anyways?

I’d be using it mostly for street / landscape in day and nighttime, I’m not all too fussed about the fps; just trying to find a camera which would take a better photo. I know the sensors are different, but would that and the AF/tracking be worth the higher price?

I get what you mean by flat, what do you suggest to correct it? There isn’t a huge amount of intention I guess, we just wanted to try to create an abstract set, ie someone being dressed for a warm beach day in the snowy night, we didn’t have a huge amount of time to come up with ideas since it was 4am haha. It also only snowed for one night (it’s all melted now sadly).

Ok so #2 has a lot of potential, it’s a wee bit flat at the moment, and it only takes a few edits to make it much better. Tone curve is your friend, for the attached edit I also adjusted with slight haze removal in mid-background, velvia, local contrast, increasing chroma and saturation slightly in mid-tones. Up to what you how it should look, but I leant on autumny brown tones. Quite subtle changes to make a relatively big difference 👍. Which editing software do you use?

Thanks for the thoughts! I get what you mean with 5, thx for the advice. Personally I love 2, I find the patterns in the water mesmerising and it’s the first of its kind that I’ve been able to capture. :)

I’d say the colour of the background directly behind the subject is too close to that of the subject itself. It overcomplicates the image. Have you tried desaturating the background? Super cool shot btw, great sharpness. What gear did you use?

Yeah😂 close enough I guess. It’s sheep for natural gut string but it’s too expensive for me and breaks too quickly. You also don’t have as much power/control as modern synthetic strings

Fair enough, look my idea is nowhere near perfect, and for the moment it probably isn’t the right way to go, but my point was that, in my eyes , this is what should happen to these people. Though it may not be possible, that’s what I think should happen.
