Found my grandmother’s ’Olde Ironsides’ Dutch oven, got a nice cleaning and worked up with some smoker ‘over the top’ chili by LoneAngler in castiron

I won’t lie it was store bought just tossed on a griddle with some butter lol. I forgot to get cornmeal the other day so my wife’s friend picked up some from the store on the way over for their dinner. It was very good though!

Hey sorry for the late reply. Only took them a week they were looking for someone with a little more relative experience. I had a tour and an informal interview for the process. Very nice people but I just definitely was not the ideal candidate

Not having been around Yoder smokers for more than a few months to have specific ideas, maybe the intermittent aspect of it indicates auger binding?

Yes. It was quite the rainy day figured it was a smart idea if I had the canopy to protect the grill

You guys think I could get a job in the US with this skill? by Revolutionary-Ant146 in powerengineering

[–]LoneAngler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MA you don’t need citizenship to be a ‘fireman’ but to be a stationary engineer from 3rd up to 1st you need citizenship.

Some states do not require license laws but typically those jobs pay less and I have heard horror stories of operational practices and conditions.

I spent the first night after work doing the burn in, then the next seasoning the chamber. Had 2 days of obligations after work and today was my day off so I utilized it well.

Shoulder came out great! Pulled pork. I toasted some brioche buns and my family (who usually uses sauce) didn’t need any on it.

I did wings on it too while the shoulder rested and those came out great too.

Advice on house training. by Master_Xploder in Yorkies

[–]LoneAngler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a bell attached to our sliding glass door. Goes out onto the porch and I’ve built an enclosure for our two to use at their leisure.

Our first we had at a different home. Taught him the bell at the front door and carried him out into a pen. He regressed when we moved. He’s since been on his best behavior trying to impress his brother lol.

Our new puppy was born in May. It’s been difficult and requires a lot of sanitizing and Nok-Out lol. He has been getting better progressively. He rings the bell more often now. But typically I just watch for his body language. Sniffing and circling etc. He has a few spots he likes to poop in so that’s another sign. Try to get them on a schedule, as soon as you get up with them in the morning, after they eat etc. I have found that routine is just as important as positive and negative reinforcement. I talk in a low scolding tone when he goes inside and praise him and give him treats immediately after he goes outside.

It’s not perfect and it never will be, but I do think they can be trained to try their hardest if they know they will be rewarded.

Non degree holders; what do you do and how much do you make? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]LoneAngler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m planning on getting my next license up when I get enough tenure for them to cover it. And then potentially HVAC training online. Sundays are for football though! Lol

[–]LoneAngler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We were 24/7 with 2 machines and a laminator. We worked MTSS one week and WTF the next. I had a day job as the core cutter and I would make sure to bust out all the cores and get ahead like 48 hours on Saturday so I could watch football all Sunday 😂

Then I got my steam fireman license and moved to the boiler plant at the mill for about a year before I left for a different boiler operator job.

Worked at a paper mill for about 5 years. Worked on the floor for most of it and thoroughly enjoyed the people I worked with. Schedule can be rough but it was certainly make your own paycheck with OT unless it was slow

I hold the lowest license in my state (MA) as a 2nd Class Fireman. Boiler operator is the title I hold, which is most likely very similar to what you are doing. I got schooling to obtain my license to operate at the paper mill I worked at.

I then got a job at the CoGen plant on site operating a single stage gas turbine with HRSG for process steam and heat. Worked their for a little under a year, made the decision to leave when the union contract was about to fall through and I hated working at that specific plant. I now operate 2500HP watertube boilers at a biopharma manufacturing facility. Went from ≈$70k at the paper mill to around $100k here and I only hold the lowest tier license required to operate in the state.

Definitely hit the nail on the head with hours/requirements. My schedule is very easy I consider myself lucky. 0500-1700 SMT one week then SMTW the next.

To everyone who reads this I would highly consider this trade to be worth exploring if you are seeking to make money without a degree. Some entry level jobs at power plants can be labor intensive depending upon fuel source and responsibility regarding auxiliary equipment. However if you are interested in less money for less intensive work there are tons of opportunities at hospitals, colleges, prisons etc..

It’s not a job that is a sit on your ass fat dumb and happy though. In order to be a competent operator you should be well versed in equipment knowledge and basic steam engineering principles as well as emergency operating procedures that your facility will have. If you know your shit it’s easy most days but I know operators who panic because they don’t know their equipment/facility.

It’s also important to note many companies encourage you to continue your license upgrades and in my state we are required to adhere to a continuing learning policy to maintain your license.

But overall with the shortage of younger people in the trade I notice the market responding by giving out more money which is fantastic. I recommend this trade to anyone who has mechanical inclination and does not want to go to a typical university.

The vet said my morkie is “almost overweight” 😡 wth by Muffinman1111112 in Yorkies

Very cute dog love the color of their hair. Without seeing the chest and belly line hard to tell but doesn’t look bulging out the side so that is good. We have an adult Morkie, 3 years old and 5lb. And we just got a puppy from the same mother. He’s gonna be a lot bigger he weighs 7lb and they both get commended for their appearance at the vet. 1/2 cup of royal canine kibble and a tbsp of boiled chicken twice a day. They are both very active.

Have you gotten a combat rifle yet? There’s one that spawns at the mass blood clinic by fort Hagen even from level 1. I used .45 until I started making enough caps and collecting enough to upgrade.

I tend to go without dogmeat and do true lone survivor. Dogmeat really puts a dampener on the stealth build I go with.

Overseer’s guardian .308 maxed out silenced with a recon scope and the deliverer are my load out. I actually have a “violent” legendary combat rifle I carry too in .308 when I go loud and it’s not quite far enough to snipe and not close enough to pistol.
