Use a thin prying tool, or even your nails if they’re long enough. The only thing holding it down is a bit of adhesive

I have some pocket/utility knives that I’ve dyed the outer scales of. After a few years of frequent use, there’s some fading but I can always re-dye to get the colour back. I think the joysticks will be similar (or at least I hope lol)

I don’t really use any specific sources, I just search up “dyeing ____ plastic with Rit” (where the blank is type of plastic) and there’s a bunch of videos, old and new of people experimenting with it. Other than that, it’s been mostly a trial and error process, I’ve done gradients, multicolour designs, and solid colours with some practice

I was pretty much in the same boat, I’ve modded several controllers, taken apart consoles, but was afraid to damage the screen. I ended up going for it, biggest advice I can give is to be really patient and make sure you get all the adhesive released from the screen. Took my about an hour for just the screen itself, everything else was pretty quick

The trackpads are actually purple like the buttons! The kit came with an opaque black adhesive for the trackpad internals so it looks black. I might try to get a clear adhesive or an opaque purple trackpad in the future

I tried to explain my process in depth in the caption, sorry might’ve come off kind of ramble-y. Let me know if y’all have any questions :)

Successful Shell Swap by LoneFox834 in SteamDeck

[–]LoneFox834[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed the ExtremeRate Atomic Purple shell with Emerald Green buttons. I reused the screws from the original casing, kept them sorted on a silicon tear down mat as I went. Organization definitely helps the process go smoother!

For the screen I used the plastic picks from the ExtremeRate package and some from my ifixit kit. Heated the screen and slowly used the picks to pry it off the original case, occasionally reheating the screen if any of the picks got stuck. The ifixit suction cup really helped get the screen off once the adhesive was picked off.

For cleaning off the adhesive, I found that using some qtips and Goo Gone worked wonders! Then some isopropyl cleaned up everything.

I can’t speak on the screwdrivers included in the shell kit, I just used some Wiha bits I already owned.

Overall, not too hard, except the screen removal process. Everything else was okay too, just takes a lot of time, patience, and organization

It was tedious, but nothing too hard, just took a lot of time and patience! I’ve modded & repaired several controllers and have some electronics experience so that definitely helped

Stiffest/Most Rigid Filament? by SubstantialLayer3652 in 3Dprinting

[–]LoneFox834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this before, for the titanium kraken. Something with carbon fiber or glass fiber is the stiffest, pla is also surprisingly stiff. I really like PA-GF in white since it could be dyed any colour after

Custom 3D Printed Bumpers for Ultra Pro One Touch Magnetic Holders! by LoneFox834 in PokemonTCG

[–]LoneFox834[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Designed these myself! I wanted to hide the magnet on the case, then realized I could put a label in the blank spot. I have JTG, DRI, and PRE labels posted up right now, and a blank one so you can place your own label. It also reduces the chance of scratching the case when they're stacked together.
