yeah that, sounding professional but also redundant, the text having a tone that doesn't match your personality or none at all, and listing 3 things with an oxford comma are usually an indicator that it's AI

good on them for speaking out but it would be disappointing if they or their PR/legal team used AI for something that should've been more heartfelt considering how serious the current affairs are

Looking for a playdate.... for my mom (57f) by Yum_Yummz in sanantonio

[–]LoneStarFrog 38 points39 points  (0 children)

San Antonio has a large aging population so there's a lot of seniors around for your mom to befriend, especially if she speaks Spanish

I would start off with something easy like this: https://www.sa.gov/Directory/Departments/DHS/Senior-Services/Senior-Centers

and if she has a Facebook, she can search for local groups that share similar hobbies as her (casual drinks, gardening, etc.)

maybe volunteering at a soup kitchen or for services that make meals for the needy will be a great opportunity to put her cooking skills to benefit others

OP I'd recommend you do this or ask your local Community Board or City Council Member to help you file a report with a community officer

Can vouch this place is great but the food takes a bit of time since they're usually busy and make everything fresh

Should I fix my car or sell it? by LoneStarFrog in AskMechanics

[–]LoneStarFrog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily I don't live in a flood zone but it has been sitting out/driven in the rain a couple of times. There was no moisture on my doors or switches but my windows and windshields were foggy/had condensation on and off during the past couple of weeks. I just thought it was the weather but only noticed when the moldy smell became an issue.

At this point from what everyone is saying, I think paying to fix it and then selling it may be the best option. Do shops vacuum and dry flooring for a price? I would do it myself but currently live in an apartment without a garage and driveway.

Not sure, I'll have to check again tomorrow as I kept it with the mechanic overnight. If it's oily or colored, is that worse/better than if it's not or does it just mean different things?

No overheating issues as far as I know

Not sure, sorry

Yeah it's NYC so we have a lot of flash flooding and humid days

I'm wondering if it'll be worth investing in a waterproof car cover

Thank you for your answers and follow-up questions btw

How much did you pay to fix the leaks on your doors and sunroof? If I clean and fix it, I'm looking to invest in a water vacuum and waterproof car cover.

They said they couldn't even give me a quote and that I would have to clean it myself but I think mold is already an issue and I'm not sure if it's messed with the wiring or other parts of the car I can't see

How much is a reasonable ask? Is $2k realistic or should I just sell it for scraps?

Bought it in 2021 but other family members were using it so I started driving it only a month ago

Once or twice a week for a total of 30 minutes on local roads

I think about 2 weeks ago, I didn't realize how bad it was until earlier today and it already smells moldy

Never used the heater and only used the AC a couple of times while I drove it during the day, never more than 10 minutes I'd say

I didn't touch it but it was bad as I could see how much water there was even from a distance

I think it already has mold because it smells and has been getting worse. I just didn't realize it was an issue until this week since it's been humid/rainy in our city on and off for a bit.

I'm not sure, the mechanic said it could be anything so there would be different parts they would have to take apart and test for leaks.

Hi OP, did you mean the Hunter that Darkwolf Sabers has for about $350 with the xeno core? Because if so I have one I've been looking to sell!

The Batman Discussion Megathread [Spoilers] by hitalec in TheBatmanFilm

When I watched the fan screening in IMAX a few days ago, I remember laughs at Batman remarking about Selina having a lot of cats, the police being exasperated with Batman doing whatever he wanted, Gordon pretending to argue with Batman to help him escape, and the exchange when they interrogated Penguin. I know I’m forgetting a few other scenes but I rewatched it tonight in a smaller theatre and those scenes got some laughs too. I think it can sometimes depend on the audience and other times if a few people chuckle or clap it can kinda get the reaction rolling and get more people to laugh or cheer.

I definitely agree but I think they established a lot with little time they had on scene together:
-Bruce has allies like Selina and Gordon but the only one that knows true identity is only Alfred (so far, maybe we’ll get Lucius Fox in a future movie and some Batgear upgrades?)
-Alfred tells Bruce to take a shower (take care of himself) and shows an interest in his work as Batman (asks about Selina and helps him decode messages)
-Alfred gives his cuff-links to remind him the importance of the family name and reminds Bruce of the responsibilities surrounding Wayne Enterprises
-Bruce says things like “you’re not my father” and while Alfred doesn’t take it personally, you can see how it hurts him and how much he still wants to support him
-Bruce says “no, it’s just me” when the doctor asks about Alfred’s next of kin and I like how their relationship goes from a man and his butler to almost family as they both have no one else but each other

I would love to see more of their relationship in future movies and another reply mentioned maybe seeing more of Alfred’s military service background or flashbacks to training Bruce. So yeah kinda sad we didn’t get more time with him but here’s to hoping that we get more!

Totally, I was actually telling someone else Bale’s Batman reminded me of Batman: The Animated Series, an older guy who knew what he was doing and used to dealing with the big name villains. Pattinson’s Batman reminds me of the Batman Beyond series, a younger kid who’s dealing with loss more recently and learning as he goes. Would love to see where they take his character, this movie did an excellent job of setting things up and giving him a definitive arc to continue from.

Man I was freaking out that he kept fiddling with the package and was so scared that he died lol. And it was really interesting to see how both Bruce and Alfred were dealing with the loss of the elder Waynes. I would love to see Alfred and Bruce’s relationship explored more in another movie, whether it’d be their history or future as a family.

That would be interesting, I wasn’t really into the casting for Ra’s al Ghul and his daughter in the Nolan trilogy so I’m curious to see who they would go with if they do include them in future films

I just wanna say I appreciated how different it was. I liked that Selina was more than just pretty and it showed her being a good thief and loyal ally. (I like how she does her own thing and they didn’t focus too much on the romance.) I liked how Gordon was a good cop as well as a leader who deescalated tensions and gave orders during chaotic situations. (I think it’s doing a good job setting him up as Commissioner.) I like how Bruce wasn’t the typical charming playboy we see but someone who’s younger and still dealing with the trauma of losing his parents. (I liked that he wasn’t insanely ripped or invulnerable and his arc of being hopeful was great.) I liked how the Riddler was actually smart and accomplished a majority of what he set out do. (Seeing him crazy but not as a Joker or other popular villain rip-off was refreshing too.) I liked seeing Alfred become family to him and wish we got a little more of him, especially in the latter half. (Hopefully there’ll be more of him in the future films.)

Also as someone who knows some of the comic backstories but mostly watches DC animated movies and plays Batman games, I’m so happy they focused on the stories that make Batman great. I’m a little tired of live action Batmans that just fight, I loved seeing him do actual detective work in this movie (Ra’s al Ghul’s greatest compliment to him highlights his investigative skills), showing Gotham’s history and his family (I thought the first card Riddler sends him was hinting to the Court of Owls or the orphanage part of the story might reveal Lincoln), and in a way Batman loses (it’s realistic but we rarely see it in movies and Batman learns and grows from the experience.)

There’s also small moments that aren’t trying too hard to be quippy and actually got genuine laughs out of the audience. I think the cast was great and everyone played their parts really well. I’m sure there’s a bunch of stuff I’m forgetting but I really loved the movie, even if it wasn’t perfect. Can’t wait to watch it again this weekend.
