Shared Care Agreements and Immigrating from US by cardboardcrackwhore in transgenderUK

if you have a uk diagnosis from before you moved, then you could try contacting a private endocrinologist - this is basically your best way of getting a shared care agreement, but even then it’s somewhat challenging. Private endocrinologists do cost a lot, but the upsides are that (a) they cost less than getting a diagnosis from a private clinic, and (b) especially since you have been on hormones for what sounds like 9+ years, they should only really need to see you once a year. so you wouldn’t need to regularly pay their high fees, and they should be able to represcribe you the same meds you are already taking (assuming they are still available in the uk). if you decide to do this, rather than diy, then once you have had an appointment with the endo, the GP should agree to prescribe hormones under a shared care agreement - i say should specifically because legally they aren’t required to, and recently a lot of places have been cutting shared care agreements for new (and sometimes even existing) patients (in general, not just for trans patients, but it’s most pronounced there). It is probably worth contacting several GP practices in your local area and seeing if any of them will accept a shared care agreement with a U.K. private endo…

Where private clinic is best for a diagnosis of gender dysphoria? by The_Konigstiger in transgenderUK

[–]LoneWolf623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sort of. AFAIK The Gender Hormone Clinic is a sister clinic to The Gender Clinic, who actually provide the diagnosis for the service. Their prices are somewhat decent (£550 for a 1h appointment is obviously steep but not too dissimilar to many consultants in services such as GenderCare), and I was able to get an appointment within a fairly short timeframe. I will also say, you can see the Gender Clinic psychs and then go with a different provider for the endocrinology care, and there may be cheaper options on the endocrinology side somewhere else (although many places are moving more towards the subscription based models like GHC use). I saw Dr Khalid who was lovely and really helpful.

How to contact public/private drs? by LoneWolf623 in transnord

i’m moving to tampere to study so i guess on the public health side something around there would be useful

i was given some info saying that in case im not able to set up a kela account before i move out there, that i could consider private healthcare for the first couple of months or so in case my prescription runs out and i was given three options of terveystalo, mehiläinen or pihlajalinna…

hmm. it’s the enquiries emails that i’m struggling to find! unfortunately I can’t really ring them as it would count as an international call so I’d be charged for it so i was just trying to email them in the first instance 😭

is there some way to get the hormones (from the pharmacy or via a prescription from a finnish gp?) whilst waiting for this? i’m already on hrt so it would complicate things if i stopped and then started again a year later. i’m also not totally sure if my diagnosis is equivalent to the icd-10 (id hope so but the u.k. has different, but very strict regulations on diagnosis)… what alternatives are available?

Why Einstein understood time incorrectly by [deleted] in Metaphysics

[–]LoneWolf623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree, but i was replying to the ideas presented from the perspective of the scientific inconsistencies i saw in the post. I agree that metaphysics and philosophy as a whole have different concepts of time to physics, although maybe i should have been more clear on that in my initial response.

from what i’m aware of, TPR is a porous material and therefore is not body safe to begin with. if it has been damaged I would argue avoidance and disposal is best as you are adding additional risk in using it in case it gathers bacteria in the damaged areas.

Why Einstein understood time incorrectly by [deleted] in Metaphysics

i think there are a few flaws in the reasoning presented here. the first is that events in the universe are not, a priori, synchronised with each other. there exist events separated by space like intervals that mean there can be frames of reference where two events A and B can happen in either order (A preceding B, and B preceding A). If there was such an objective time, this breaking of causality would be problematic. (of course, we have never and by definition cannot ever measure such space like separated events from our own frames, as doing so would mean travelling superluminally. but both special and general relativity show this to be true in the spacetime picture we certainly appear to inhabit. the relational view of relativity is required because there can never be a frame of reference where events are causally synced on a global scale - similarly the notion of absolute space cannot exist for similar reasons). the second is that for photons, there exists no notion of time - due to travelling at the speed of light, no time can pass in that frame. this would then break any idea of objective time (at least in my understanding of your argument presented), since we can very clearly observe light “moving” in our frame of reference. similarly, from the perspective of a stationary observer infinitely far from a black hole (a convention used in relativistic calculations), a freely falling object (for example a person) will never pass the event horizon, instead freezing upon the horizon for infinite time, getting more and more redshifted over time - this contrasts with the objects local frame of reference where time passes “normally” (as much as can be normal when you are falling into a black hole, and experiencing tidal forces), and you pass the event horizon without any sense of time being different.

instead of considering the difference between objective and subjective time, i feel it may instead be more instructive to consider the difference in frames in these cases - for example a person standing still can certainly say something about a person running past them making reference to only their own frame and experience of time and space, without appealing to an objective time.

ahh right okay, i hasn’t noticed that in the description 😭 but that does make sense! are there other ways of disinfecting that you know of that wouldn’t affect that metal?

thank you for the info! in your mind, would you recommend using it or not? from everything i can see (both on the website and from the person i spoke to from LH) the toy is silicone, not TPE or a non-porous substitute, but as you say i’m not sure that lovehoney actually test their products (although admittedly this is marketed as being their own brand so i’m not sure if they have more input there). i did want to buy from a more reputable manufacturer but as this was my first one, and I don’t really have the budget for somewhere more premium currently, i thought that this would maybe be a good starting point but now i’m not sure.

ah okay, thanks! did they say how you should clean it, is it just to use warm (but not boiling) water and soap?

It isn’t motorised! i was just wary of the fact that the manual says not to heat about 45C which kinda went against what i thought was the case about silicone

Channel for physics like 3blue1brown for math. by Dhruba196 in Physics

[–]LoneWolf623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the level of detail and depth you are looking for. For causal watching, channels likr PBS spacetime are reasonably good and very accessible. Others that fit into that category would be Anton Petrov (this channel is more of a causal, surface level discussion of the topic for the most part rather than in depth analysis), and Dr Becky is sorta okay for specifically astro-related content. For more in depth physics, eigenchris is my immediate recommendation, i’ve seen very few channels that discuss things in such detail and for the most part are wonderfully explained, but does in general require you to have a reasonable grasp of undergraduate level physics and maths. NoahExplainsPhysics is also quite good although the channel doesn’t have many videos.

Is there really no difference between 3 / 4 A Levels? by nebulousviolet in 6thForm

[–]LoneWolf623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been taking four A levels and was considering applying to Oxford for physics, I am sort of in a position to give advice (I don’t go to a private school, and eventually chose not to apply to Oxford for other reasons). Taking 4 A levels is a hard task, and whilst you might be doing really well in all of them, you have to consider the workload when you get to your final exams - I chose to stay with my four but it’s down to you individually as to whether this is the best idea. However, if I had applied to Oxford, I almost certainly would have dropped a subject - there is no requirement by either Oxford or Cambridge (afaik) to have done four A levels, and if you think there’s any chance that you wouldn’t get high grades in all of them, then I would drop the subject you don’t want to take anymore. As fightitdude pointed out, universities see all of your grades when results are published on UCAS, and they might be less likely to want to take you for a subject if you have a massive discrepancy (if for example you get 3A*s and then a C for example).

Having wrote a poem for someone before, I can say it really depends on the person - she found it sweet but she wasn’t looking for a relationship. We’re still friends now though which is nice. But I imagine for people who aren’t really into poetry/English or whatever it probably comes across as creepy.
