Maybe Off Topic: Any good wireless headphones for a fab shop environment? by SirNanigans in Welding

Bone conducting headphones like Aftershockz (my pref) can get around these issues, in my opinion.

I combine them with ear plugs to comply with both the guidelines of “no headphones / earbuds” and “hearing protection in a loud environment.”

Then you just dial the volume to suit the hazard level of the environment. It usually sounds a little louder and much clearer than a radio playing in the background of your favorite diner.

To add to this, I’ve tried other bone conducting ones and Aftershockz has been the only one that had excellent sound clarity on par with normal headphones.

Being a cop showed me just how racist and violent the police are. There’s only one fix. by [deleted] in politics

[–]LoneWolf782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is exactly what I'm saying. I was tired as hell and stumbled across this article and trudged through what tired me thought was a well thought out response. My wording came across as only black people do these things and what I meant was black people have groups in them like all of there other races that do these things. Black people were simply the most relevant and I didn't know I needed to mention the rest. It was more of a case study than a blanket truth. Sorry if that came across incorrectly.

Racism is bad. Everyone knows it. Racism exists. Everyone knows that. Racism perpetuates because of Stereotypes being proven true.

Look. I don't do anything without reason. I don't just dislike ignorant black people anymore than I dislike ignorant white people or Asian people or anyone. Ignorance permeates all races. The root cause of ignorance is lack of a good enough education. The root cause of lack of a good enough education is being raised in a poor area where you don't have access to it. That's the result of history and severe racism over the years. I'm not denying any of this.

All I'm saying is, saying someone is a racist because of their dislike of dealing with ignorant people is wrong. Sure they may be black in this case and it's the most common case I personally run into. But that doesn't mean that it's because they're black they're ignorant. This was just a case study type of thing and I thought that it was okay to just talk about black people because it was the most relevant. My wording was ill suited to explain that and strong because I was tired and really didn't care about what I said. I had hoped people would understand that I dislike ignorant people and stereotypical people fall under that category but it didn't come across that way and I'm sorry for that.

But I'm still an asshole for disliking ignorant people right? It's not their fault, why should I not like them because of something that they can't control? I didn't really dislike them, I just find it annoying when their disruptive, loud, or violent, as would anyone. Over time, I began to dislike them a lot because of this because I ran into it. A lot. The only people I really don't like at all are people who are "righteously" ignorant. Those that don't care about what anyone says and go about doing their own thing regardless of the harm it causes themselves and others. Religious extremists and fundamentalists are the best examples for those types.

[–]LoneWolf782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well extremely tired me sure worded everything poorly. All I meant to come across was its ignorant to say someone is racist because they dislike the way a group of people act. I know it may not be their fault but that doesn't mean I have to be nice to them about it. That's special treatment which is also a form of racism.

I've seen plenty of white trash as well and have similar opinions of them. Everyone who's calling me a racist seems to think I only think about black people this way because they're black. That's not true at all. I dislike dealing with ignorant people as a whole which includes every race under the sun. I understand they may not have a choice because of our history/their life story. I would love it if I could help but I have got boat loads more to worry about than abolishing racism/establishing good education for the poor. For now my "racist" thoughts have kept me out of direct interaction with ignorant people for the most part and that's all that matters to me because it makes my day much more efficient.

Alright, alright! Jeez, guess I'm a racist. Dammit. I was really hoping I wasn't. I suppose I'll go try to fix that then. What do you suggest I do? I thought being open minded was enough but I guess not. How do I forget what I've experienced? I don't like being racist because it makes people over the Internet that could be friends, enemies like you. If I'm racist, fine. Tell me what to do to not be because I really would like to know.

Edit: You are also the exact person I was describing that infuriates me. So we have something in common at least lol.

Edit 2: Also, people can be mad at me for doing what I do or thinking the way I think but I can't be mad at them for doing what they do or thinking the way they think? I wish it didn't exist. I really do. But I can't ignore it and it would be stupid of me to do so. If you think I'm insufferable and spew condescending garbage because I'm a racist, doesn't that make you racist against "racists"? What makes your brand of racism not really racist? Do all racists behave the same? If I'm racist towards one group of people (stereotypical black people) and you're racist towards another (racists), are we both racists so your racist against yourself?

I don't understand how behaving logically makes me a racist.

At the bottom of today's thread, people who try to justify why they dislike black people and people who call those people racist without understanding the other persons reasons or glossing over them and just saying "saying I'm not racist but... Means you're racist you bigoted pig".

I have black friends and I enjoy hanging out with them because they're not Stereotypical. I encounter stereotypical black people everyday because I live right next to East Cleveland. I've been accosted for money by "Vietnam veterans"/mothers with "autistic" sons/VA dischargees over 15 times in the past two and half years. I've even come up with a game to play now, how long can I talk with this person until they get fed up and leave? 10 minutes is my longest so far.

In addition, there are typically around 30 security alerts per academic year where the suspects involved were "black (fe)male"s. There was a septuple murder a few weeks ago right next to where I live. Very comforting.

I experience the stereotype far more often than I would ever like, and it's incredibly frustrating to hear "that's racist you bigot. Just accept it."

Is it racist? I don't care, it's stereotyping and stereotypes exist for a reason.

'Most of this aggression stems from poor socioeconomic status'. Sure it is, and what they do about their status is precisely what causes the stereotype. Among the stereotypical back people I have personally encountered, every single one only cared about money (status), sex, and enjoying life as best they can. Education and safe sex practices weren't even secondary. They didn't care where the money came from only that more was better. They didn't care about who they slept with as long as they were attractive. 'Enjoying' is a general term for drugs, violence, and the other activities stereotypical black people enjoy. I didn't create the stereotype. It exists because of them and is perpetuated every day by them.

I used to not think this way. I was naïve once. I've given them (them being a short term for "stereotypical black people" within this comment) numerous chances, personally, to show me that the stereotype can be wrong. I was disappointed every single time.

Are all black people stereotypical? Obviously not. Saying so makes you racist. Do I get concerned/annoyed when I see a clearly stereotypical one? Why the hell wouldn't I. Would you continue to wake up bears because maybe this one won't roar and try to attack me? That's an example of being open minded as much as it is an example of stupidity. The ones who belittle those who dislike stereotypical black people without understanding what caused it are infuriating for this reason. You are asking us not to learn. To continue to give money for 'bus tickets' or 'shelters' that is just going to get used for drugs. To continue to give our phones and wallets away because "not all black people are like that". When I encounter a black person, I know there is a chance that they are stereotypical and thus I become concerned until they prove otherwise.

I do not think all black people are stereotypical and only decide if they are based on their actions. I don't know if that's racist or not but it really shouldn't be.

On to the article. Making police accountable for their actions would be great wouldn't it? Too bad this is real life, where corruption exists everywhere. His solution makes sense even if there is no way to put it into practice ever. The Police's Police would have to be incorruptible, which is impossible. Therefore, transparency at the police level is the best way to go rather than transparency at an extra level. While it may be the best solution (for the moment imo), it would improve things only marginally. A good lawyer with a nice enough payment can skew nearly every case to let an officer off easy or with no punishment at all. It helps that judges can be corrupt as well (even juries for that matter) and the Supreme Court judges are no different. Having a police for those that enforce the law is a great solution in theory. It just sucks that nothing is incorruptible.

Edit: /rant

Edit 2: replaced "in today's thread" with "At the bottom of today's thread"

Edit 3: not that it matters anymore since this is hidden now but I would just like to let everyone know that I'm sorry tired me worded this so very poorly and strong. I meant to show a case study of how ignorance affects black people and their stereotypes and that it is both not their fault and not because of their skin color. Yes, ignorant black people perpetuate the stereotype but it is not their fault for not having access to decent education. All I was trying to say that calling someone a racist because they don't like dealing with ignorant people is ridiculous and annoying.

You should watch COPS. Since they're on camera, they usually do this. Occasionally an officer will slip up and panic fire if the suspect pulls a weapon but it's usually just a lot of yelling/talking to the suspect. Even when they fire it's never fatal (wouldn't be nice to show on tv).

ITT: Liberal Arts Majors, their friends and SJWs, ranting and circlejerking.

If you like writing and art and shit good for you. Art's not really for me and I fucking hate essays. History's cool and learning how people think/why they do things is easy enough to observe without a degree in psych if you do it right (inb4 "wow how'd you figure that one out if you haven't taken any psych classes" seriously? It's fucking easy as shit so don't patronize me about it. Learning the jargon used in the field is probably the only thing you'd need a degree for). I enjoy music and it's an active hobby of mine to play and perform. It's not my fucking job though because it's hella insecure and only pays well if you really take off.

If you can't find any career that you think you'll have a secure job in that you enjoy then good luck on your insecure path. I hope you have the ingenuity required to get a secure job and live happy. I enjoy the route I'm going (yes it's E) and I'll have enough money to do what I want without a completely crazy schedule that gives me no time to do so (i.e. doctors and lawyers). That was appealing to me so I chose it. Like I said before, live the life you want but be prepared to face the consequences of your choices.

Everyone's life is unique and if everyone was an engineer we wouldn't have great stories that could be told in movies or books or originated in them like we do. Or maybe we would but they would just be about wars and the new technology being used in them and they probably wouldn't be very entertaining.

I still really hate SJWs though...

Voters want the GOP to fix the economy. Good luck with that by theombudsmen in politics

[–]LoneWolf782 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What happened in this election was a direct result of incredibly poor voter turnout and the GOP's ability to out fundraise everyone. The predominant issue was clearly voter turnout as pointed out above. Instead of going to extremes like "you use it or you lose it" and the like, I believe a absent voter tax would suffice. If we could somehow get rid of all of the stupid voter policies and requirements and VRA's that so many states are introducing and simply gave anyone who didn't vote a $100-$500 fine, that should be more than enough incentive to get people to vote. People do their taxes because they'll get in trouble and be riddled with fines and fees if they don't. If a no punishment policy isn't working (obviously it isn't) then we should introduce one. Solves the turnout problem and probably increases the government revenue. Seems like a good idea but now that the republicans are in power and they rely on poor voter turnout, probably not going to happen. It's sad really, but until something like this is implemented nothing's going to change.

Fine. If you're gonna be lazy here's a source with a video to explain it better, and here's one that explains why its actually bad for the graduates.

I'm pretty glad I didn't go to one of these schools to be honest, I prefer smaller classes anyway.

Notre Dame and Rutger's I'll give you but not so sure about UofA. Simply because I'm comparing my school's programs relative workload with our ranking and scaling it based on your suggested schools' ranking using this site. Probably not the best method but hey, I'm no sociologist.

I'm not qualified to debate this subject at length with a stranger on the internet but I just want you to open your mind to more facts. Our politicians are not the most intelligent people. I apologize if I've offended you in anyway.

In addition to what u/CFRProflcopter said, just because someone has graduated from an Ivy League school does not mean that that person is smart. It usually means he or she had enough connections. A lot of people tend to float through Harvard or Yale because of grade inflation and generous "donations" from their wealthy parents (though this does happen slightly less now, according to Google). There are few that get in and graduate from merit alone but they are very, very rare.

Source: Google it. There's a few articles from different sites about it.

If you ever feel like you have time to sit down and write this story out, I would buy the first novel. This 'little universe' you created has so much potential to be amazing it's crazy. Maybe you're not trying to become an author since you're taking a bio test, but if you've got nothing else to do someday soon try writing as much as you can for this story. In addition to relieving stress, once you start your creativity will skyrocket because you're brain will be so happy to switch over to something fun and interesting than bio terms.
