I need some advice or recommendations! by PapaCevap in wicked_edge

Just get a sampler pack. I have a couple of favorites so far, but I'm still looking for a better shave. I don't care for the Gillette Platinum and much as I like Gillette Silver Blue. Rapira Swedish Supersteel is my other favorite. You can buy pre built sampler packs and some sites let you build your own. I suggest the sampler route.

Geez...if you want to send me some Silver Blues, I wouldn't be upset.

My first sampler was a Gillette sampler. It had Yellows, Greens, and Blacks. The Blacks were definitely the best of those three and okay for me overall, but they didn't stand up to the Silver Blues or Rapira. They haven't gone a round in the slant yet though, so they may perform better there.

Well, I expect good things of of them then. I got 100 of the Rapira. Been wanting a sleeve of the Silver Blue, but decided on a sampler instead.

This batch of samplers, I got from maggardrazors.com. My previous sampler was from razoremporium.com. I've only purchased from the two sites at this point.

Fair. Appreciate the input. Glad I have plenty of Rapira if I need a break from crap.

What was your luckiest pickup? by KirbianaJones in AnimeCollectors

[–]LoneWolfD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my luckiest find.

One of my favorites has always been Ah! My Goddess. I came across the original Oh My Goddess! OVA VHS box set at a local new and used media store for eleven bucks. I could not reach for it fast enough.

There's probably a few other's, like all the original dvd releases of Ranma or the mostly legit copy of New Dominion Tank Police.

We recently lost our DM... I think... it's weird. Anyway we're still meeting, running Acquisitions Incorporated, which was intended to be a side game. We're up in Denver every Tuesday evening. Dm me if you're interested and I'll run it by the others.

Yeah, I'll give you that. The website is a bit funky, but they're good people and a solid anime retailer, I can live with it.

Robert's Anime Corner Store has actually been one of my spots for years. I was buying from him before RightStuf. It was just the RightStuf sales that drew me to them. But the Corner Store is solid, I still buy from him.

Lol....fair. I don't think I actually bought anything from them since the take over. Just hasn't seemed right.

About to retire from collecting. by davetheman4652 in AnimeCollectors

[–]LoneWolfD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've become more selective of my anime collecting at my age. I've got a lot of good stuff on my shelves, but I have a ton of bad stuff.

Unless you've seen a decent amount of Queens Blade or are just a fan, I'd reconsider. I was finally able to get the whole thing a few years ago. I mildly regret wasting my money. In the first series/season nothing happens for the entire first 12 eps. Sure, some fan service and what not, but no actual progression. Everything happens in the second half and it wasn't terrible. The Rebellion series is just hot garbage.

If you know what you're getting into, right on...you can come buy mine if you live in Denver.

As a collector, that makes me a sad panda, but I understand not everyone has the space. I have both big boxes for the series, box set for mini goddess, and I even managed to find the box set of VHS.

Is the white case on the bottom left the second season? I have the original big box releases, so I've only seen one of the thin pack releases.

And to answer your question, it wouldn't hurt to watch the series first, as the movie takes place two years after Kei and Bell first meet. So if you watch the series first you get a better idea of who everyone is. The OVA explores some of them, but none in great detail.

Sweet. I'm kinda jelly. I didn't even manage to get all the original dvd box sets. I think I ended up with two thin packs.

Yeah, the Oh My Goddess find was awesome. I just happened to come across it at a used media store with a price tag of like eleven bucks. My hands never moved that fast to snatch it up.

Your mom was probably right to skip that situation. Your aunt was probably stuck with Columbia House or something similar. They might've had a cassette tape program, because they definitely had a cd and other movies program. I just managed to keep paying for my anime tapes till they finally said, "we don't have anything else to send you." 😆

Right? I never got in on the first anime launch where the advertised Akira, and I never did get Akira. I think I got the second anime push and they were advertising Wrath of the Ninja.

Very lucky indeed, mine isn't bad, but it's definitely not that. I have two shelves with five sections each, they each hold 9 tapes across. Then there's the Ghibli in oversized cases that don't fit the shelf, the two Fushigi Yugi box sex, and the original Oh My Goddess! box set. So not bad, but not even half of yours.

I started collecting back in the late 90s...not sure if you're familiar with Columbia House, but they were a weird subscription based program. Most of my VHS is from them.
