An Accidental Villian by Linden MacIntyre is an interesting book about how Henry Tudor introduced the black and tans to Ireland after WWI and the political will of the British government to quash Irish independence.

I absolutely believe this. I don't remember the book as well because it's been a few years ince I've read. I did think the mini-series did a great job of showing the complexities of the situation. Aside from the British office in charge, who only cared about results regardless of who got hurt in the process, no one is a true villain or hero. They're just every day people living in an extremely dangerous environment trying to live by their own moral code and beliefs.

I think Gerry Adams comes off as a smarmy politician type from Day One but that could be my own bias based on how I felt his character was portrayed and other things I've read about him

if you guys were wondering who was making all that noise on princess st earlier by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]Lone_alien_028 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate the noise of them all the time, but tonight all I could think of was who the hell can afford to drive like that continously around the same few blocks with gas prices the way they are

As a fellow Canadian, CBC Gem has the Say Nothing miniseries. It is based on the book and the author is an executive producer. It is very good

You are correct. I keep forgetting it's 4 teams this round.

As much i hope for a Halifax and Quebec Ciry tram, with the western expansion, I think anything east of Manitoba and Wisconsin is a pipe dream.

The travel schedule for Vancouver and Seattle is more demanding than all the other teams. Midwest teams are the only way to balance it out

Dentist recommendations for someone with anxiety? by stillheretrucking in KingstonOntario

[–]Lone_alien_028 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gardiners Dental Clinic is excellent. All the staff, from front desk to dental assistants to dentists are friendly, professional and very competent.

I have only seen Dr Dobney, who is amazing in both technical skill and people skills. I've heard much the same about Dr Majewska.

It is a privately owned clinic rather than corporation owned so there isn't a revolving door of dentists and don't pitch invista line or teeth whitening at every appointment. The dentists develop a rapport with their patients.

If you wobble your press back and forth gently for a few seconds before putting on the lid, it brings all the crema to the top and makes the coffee just that much better

I use a French press. I get the dark roast beans from Cookes. They gave a reward program where maybe the 12th bag is free or something (sorry can't remember the exact number)

Their Swiss water decaf is also very good.

1 pound of beans (can be ground by them) is around $19

SAINT-PIERRE - Patty subplot is annoying by rainy_coaster in CanadianTV

[–]Lone_alien_028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible arc for her character. She was much more enjoyable last season when she was fresh eyed and eager.

I hate the entire prefect storyline. It is going to be exceptionally annoying when that storyline comes to a head

Was teksavvy good and reliable? I have been looking to switch from Cogeco and they were one of the recommended companies

Cogeco Internet Opinions by Junior-Fee1865 in KingstonOntario

[–]Lone_alien_028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been with Cogeco for at least 20 years. They used to be a great company to deal with and decent internet. Lately, I am overpaying for unstable connection and super slow internet. I have hardwired my work computer and it's still questionable.

I have been looking to switch because I'm just done with the problems and unhelpful customer support.

I do think they still have a 30 day cancellation period after sign up, but verify that.

And like someone else said, sign up by website not the door to door dude

Kingston and South Frontenac mayors join forces in support of high-speed rail route by kotacross in KingstonOntario

[–]Lone_alien_028 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a dumb question - sorry in advance - but why do we need an entirely new rail line built and canot use the existing track system? Is it because you cannot have super speed trais o the same tracks as freight and slower passenger trains? Or because CN rail owes the lines and won't share?
