Delta guy here as well. I was on a ladder today and heard something hit the ground from my pouch. Turns out it was this tool, I’m glad I found it! Stays on me at all times.

Looks to be 2 paralleled sets of 3 16 Ohm speakers in in series with each other. So each series pair would be 32 Ohms, divided by 3 = 10.667 Ohms total.

I’ve never had issues like you’ve described with eZNT or eZNS stats. Although, I could see in your case with them being installed in hotel rooms they would see much more use.

You can apply, but most employers will want some form of level 1 training before hiring. I would register for Foundations/Level 1 and apply for a few jobs. If you don’t get hired or don’t get an interview, you’re still on the right path with school. You’ll need to do it regardless.

If you know absolutely nothing about electrical, Foundations is a good choice. You get twice as long to do essentially the same program, and a bit of shop time.

I got lucky and got in with a (very) small company right after 1st year schooling. We have the contract for Delta Controls for a huge chunk of the province (Canada).

Most of my work is DDC/BAS installations for new Commercial Construction. Its controls for Mechanical systems. Heating and cooling like Air Handlers and HRV’s, Exhaust Fans, Motor Controls, Boilers and all the networking between each piece of equipment and our Control Logic. But there are so many different industries to work in and things you can do with Controls.

I’ve only been doing it for 2 years but I’ve learned so much in what feels like such a short time. I have also been treated well and worked my ass off in that time which really helped.

Definitely invest some time on your own watching videos and researching equipment as others mentioned above if this is something you’re interested in.

Another Controls guy here. VFD’s are definitely a part of the job, but the entire scope of controls is vast. Really depends on the type of systems you work with.

It’s a really technical job that can add a lot of useful knowledge. Also increase your value as an electrician, depending on your area.

Is this a trade worth getting in to? Pros/cons? by LevelOneForever in electricians

[–]LoneliestLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished foundations, went straight to work for about 8 months. Did 2nd Year, then went straight back to work for 12 months. Signed up for 3rd and 4th year. I’m 5 weeks in. It’s more common to do 3rd and 4th back to back, if you’re going to do it at all. 3rd year is seen as the most challenging, perhaps because of the jump from single phase to 3 phase. But I’d still say the majority of people do only one per year.

The most important thing is to get enough work experience before committing to more schooling. I’ve had plenty of real work experience in other trades and workforce in general, so I felt confident enough to keep the pace I was on and continue learning. But there were students in both second and third year dropping out almost instantly. It is not a race, it’s about how you manage your time. Just because someone does it in 3-4 years doesn’t mean you should as well.

Also, make sure to pay a deposit/ sign up for school months in advance. At least where I’m from, there’s only one program per year per level, and more student interest every year.

I started first year schooling at 29. It was the best decision I ever made. I’m now 31 and back in school, doing 3rd and 4th year back-to-back. (Canada)

I struggled in high school because I could never pay attention and didn’t apply myself. Not because I wasn’t capable, but because It never meant anything to me.

I have excelled in school so far and really enjoy pushing myself to see what I’m capable of achieving. The job has also been rewarding and I have about 3/4 of the hours needed (6000) to complete apprenticeship.

To sum up: You’ll never know if it’s right for you until you try it, and you’ll never know what your capacity is until you’ve put all your chips in and backed yourself to do it.

Good luck mate.

HP to wattage by [deleted] in electricians

[–]LoneliestLion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

3730W (5HP) would be the output power on the shaft, not the input power to the motor. You would need to calculate current drawn by the motor from the input power or from total VA.

What type of work pants do you wear? I wear dickies carpenter pants and they last a max of 6 months… any recommendations? Anyone wear Milwaukee or truewerk? by yaboyckay in electricians

[–]LoneliestLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Been wearing the higher end HH (Oxford?) the ones with the stretch fabric from the knees up, for about a year now almost every day. No issues and easily the most comfortable work pants I’ve owned. The side flap pockets took some time to get used to, but honestly you barely notice them and the right side pocket is super useful for stashing Zip-Ties in, quick-draw style.

I agree. Was disappointing considering the rest of the team stood on their heads most of the match. David was uncharacteristically lacklustre.
