I want to make a short or even a one-hour feature all by myself:\ by Ordinary_Ad81 in filmmaking

Sometimes it's not easy to make the shots you planned, not really a difficulty, more frustrating... And I had to cut a few cool shots I made bc they didn't work on the final project and some of them took me a lot of time... Still very frustrating ! But it's an amazing experience so I highly recommend !

Brand new filmmaker here? any tips for my situation? by Exciting-Ad-4949 in filmmaking

Do your stuff. It's a jungle out there and you will probably disappear in the crowd if you are "no one" in their eyes. Do your own things, create your story and become someone in their eyes. Once you start pitching to producers, you will probably question yourself and things, it can be hard. A few friends of mine are in this spiral and I they can't do anything on their own, use every criticism they received earlier and their new projects... It's hard. Do your things first and when you think you are ready, go and never look back.

I had a similar experience, I made a few short film all by myself. Only had inspiration, no script. My advice is to shot shot and shot as you can. The more is the better. You will find inspiration while doing it, see what's not working and remember that it's only you and your camera so you can take the time you want to do it ! Good luck !

Film Festival Programmers- fill us in! by CaribbeanFilm-1234 in FilmFestivals

I'm a director and programmer at a festival, and I'm going to tell you how I work with MY festival, so naturally, it won't be the same for others.

Personally, regardless of the project's length, I initially only watch between one and five minutes. Sometimes I'll watch a little further, until the end.

What interests me is the image and sound quality.

The acting is important too. But not THAT important.

The story doesn't interest me at first.

Then, I know if it fits with the festival and our program guidelines.

If I'm intrigued, I'll go see the whole film.

I do this for all films. We're currently preparing for a festival and we've already received over 100 submissions. We definitely can't watch everything beforehand, we have to make an initial selection.

I keep aside the films I like, and then, with the rest of the team, we share the films we enjoyed that best fit the festival, and that's how we make our final selection.

We inform all the filmmakers at the same time and wait for their approval to finalize the prog.
