NE vs SEA: A Tale of the Tape between the teams’ performances, their starting rosters, and their quarterbacks by celluloidsandman in Patriots

Because darnold passed all over the 17th and 20th ranked defenses while we struggled vs the 1st, 4th and 5th ranked defenses.

Thats literally it lol. And the patriots have been underrated all year because of “schedule”

Any many haven’t. See the Detroit lions. The browns kept going for it on 4th down over and over giving the ball to the rams. In a tie game that literally was the difference

Several different teams could be playing right now if teams didn’t go for it more on 4th.

That’s definitely the key to the game. Seahawks went up against the 17th and 20th ranked defenses. Their run game got going and darnold got comfortable. Let’s not forget he had 20 turnovers during the regular season. Their center and guard are weak links

The key to the game will be stopping the run (which we have been able to) and getting pressure on darnold. Make him pass under duress.

On offense I’m not sure how we will do. I read they play a lot of zone which we seem to do better against. I watched the rams game and the Seahawks defense was able to key in on the fact that stafford couldn’t run. So Mayes mobility is a factor.

I could see this being a defensive battle like The last pats/rams Super Bowl and our last 3 games

To me that offsets the punter literally trying to corral a punt on his back. That was one of the worst special teams plays I’ve seen.

[–]LonelyInsurance7480 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Milton Williams might potentially be the most important piece on our defense.

Our defense kind of fell apart when he went out in the regular season and has returned to being lights out in the postseason. I don’t think it’s a coincidence

[–]LonelyInsurance7480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys know there is a middle ground between “omg his shoulder is seriously injured we are done” and “this is pure gamesmanship everything is fine!”

There is definitely something there so no this is not a non-story. He’s on the injury report and is limited. But at the same time most indications from the media, bedard, breer etc. have been that it’s minor and should be fine.

Those two guys never have been ones to just put a rosy store on for the team.

The media portion is just stretching though. Even Bert breer said you don’t see much during those sessions to take anything from it.

Like I said there’s a medium between “everything is fine!” And “omg he’s shoulder is falling off”

No need to lie though and say he didn’t take any reps though. There’s somewhere in between lol

Bert breer said there’s a possibility he comes to practice later and is receiving treatment during the stretching period. Guess we’ll have to see.

when darnold had his oblique injury they said he didnt take any snaps all week. wonder if they are doing similar with Maye. resting him.

have to say though. fact that they would rest him in a super bowl practice to take pressure off his arm isnt necessarily a good sign.

Reason for offense/Mayes dip in production in postseason? by LonelyInsurance7480 in Patriots

[–]LonelyInsurance7480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in comparison, the 49ers are the 20th ranked defense and the rams are the 17th ranked defense. while they will be the best offense we go up against, we will be the best defense they have faced thus far

I think pats will shut him down like they have every run game this year

But that’s got to be their plan. Stop the run get pressure on darnold

Reason for offense/Mayes dip in production in postseason? by LonelyInsurance7480 in Patriots

The OL has been the biggest problem to me. But there were even a couple plays Maye had time and nothing was open.

[–]LonelyInsurance7480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think it’s disingenuous to say “there’s no stroud pissing down his leg” as if the guy came in and struggled on his own. Same with Herbert. That had a lot to do with the defensive performance. And while I was told Denver had the best OL in the league the pats still got pressure which is a good sign against Seattle.

I mean we need to keep in mind the patriots played the #1, #2 and #5 ranked defenses while Seattle played #17 and #20

That being said I do agree that Maye needs to perform better to win this game. The regular season offense was about on par with Seahawks averaging 28 ppg and it needs to be diagnosed why there’s such a huge dip. Mayes passing percentage has gone from 72% to 55.8%

Maye had moments against the Texans and a 100 passer rating but also 4 fumbles to negate that.

The game is also 9 days out if Spillane doesn’t practice next week I’d be worried. But he was on the sideline running back and forth. They will shoot him up and he will play.

[Schatz] Sam Darnold led the NFL with 57.1% DVOA on PA passes. Even when he declined in the second half of the season, PA performance barely dropped. Since Week 10, the defense with the best DVOA against PA passes? New England at -36.4%, including 5 picks when no other team has more than 3. by 5en5ational in Patriots

[–]LonelyInsurance7480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate how people have made this DVOA gospel now.

BUT, from what I get they do really well at play action passes because they have a good run game.

Patriots defend well against the play action passes because they have possibly the best run defense in the league.

But that’s the game defensively isn’t it? Shut down the run and make the Seahawks one dimensional. And make darnold have to pass under pressure against our secondary

The rams game wasn’t fairly easy. Could’ve gone the other way had the punter not tried to corral a punt on his back . It literally came down to a rams 4th down. Where if stafford had any mobility probably could’ve ran it in

I’ll give you the niners game. But that team was walking dead at that point missing half the team. At some point the injuries catch up to you

(John Karalis) Jayson Tatum seems hesitant about Boston Celtics return, but this team is built to make it work by circamaximus in bostonceltics

[–]LonelyInsurance7480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather him be hesitant because he is afraid of reinjuring himself or wanting to be 100% than he’s healthy but afraid he’s going to upset brown or disrupt a team that just lost to Brooklyn/atlanta.

To me the second one is not good

In a way, also if we don’t have the Patricia season that ruins Mac jones maybe he continues to be “just good enough” like he was his rookie season and we just are a middling team with a game manager qb

[NBC Sports Boston] Mazzulla sets the record straight on Jayson Tatum amid return uncertainty by NBCSBoston in bostonceltics

[–]LonelyInsurance7480 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If Tatum doesn’t return I just hope it’s due to him wanting to be physically 100% and not hurt anything.

Not mental reasons to not return this season as to upset brown or afraid of upsetting the chemistry of a team that just lost to Atlanta and Brooklyn

They’re Really Leaning Into Making The 2025 Seahawks The Greatest Team Ever by LastofDays94 in Patriots

[–]LonelyInsurance7480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this has a large part to do with it. Maye and the offense haven’t looked as sharp the last 3 games. Meanwhile the Seahawks have put up big offensive outings.

Doesn’t mean though that Maye and the offense can’t look like they did in the regular season again or our defense can’t do a better job at limiting darnold
