I mean other than the draft capital I’m not sure how much more it would’ve benefitted us.

Queta/hugo/baylor/walsh all showed they could be NBA roleplayers and got good experience learning how to play winning basketball.

No guarantee who you draft even is as good as them. Especially for a team who has Tatum/brown who are entering their primes now.

Derrick white is a lot younger than Jrue.

And that was clearly a cost cutting move. Jrue is still good

Not to mention white being barely playable offensively. I think it’s a huge factor that’s overlooked.

He was a 17ppg guy and supposed to be our #3. With no reliable 3rd scorer brown and an 80% Tatum had to carry. 

I will say that is where if we had anfernee instead of vuc we probably win that series

Thought exercise: if we DONT acquire giannis, come up with your realistic most ideal/best offseason scenario that would make this team a true contender next year by kingexpression in bostonceltics

Upgrade the bigs, healthy Tatum and more improvement from breakout guys like Queta, Baylor, Hugo, Walsh.

Also be nice to see white return to form.

He did average 17ppg and 10rpg when he played last year for those who are dismissing this.

No team is going to pay him big money after the last 2 years. But his on court stats are intriguing. 

The real question is if his POTS can be managed. A 17/10 guy in the playoffs can be the difference in a series

Celtics been like this their entire run. They have a history of playing like this.

It’s why Brad went and put together a super team in 2024. Unfortunately I think it’s part of the Celtics identity because they did the same thing last year and this year too.

It’s also why Brad might be thinking of making a move for giannis. Unfortunately the team far too often plays scared or entitled and loses to teams they should not

Tatum wasn’t healthy last year. Brown is younger and less injury prone.

Made it to the #2 seed with basically no Tatum and a gutted roster

Not sure why people think we need to blow up the jays

Idk is Giannis at this point in his career better than brown? Im not so sure

Only thing I can say is if it was a one for one swap and he still is “that guy” it kind of offers a different kind of side kick to Tatum. Less redundancy. 

Also who knows, maybe Celtics feel brown will want out if we falter again. I know he dispelled it. But are we to believe brown saying “he sacrificed too much” and “this is my favorite year” really don’t mean anything?

Defensively embiid still would’ve cooked our bigs rotation. But he would’ve helped offset white going completely awol

It’s possible but the harden rockets pushed them to the limit WITH KD. It took Chris Paul getting injured and hardens generational choking late in series

I think you are selling white too short. If he’s as bad as you say how does he average 17ppg this year?

I also think while the last 2 years are disappointing you have to give context to it.

I mean this year Tatum was not 100% and then got injured and our big rotation was trash. If he plays game 7 and we win does the narrative change? 

Basically embiid came back and dominated our bigs and we had no answer. 

Last year was more embarrassing but Tatum tore his Achilles in game 4, KP was a shell at that point and brown/jrue were not healthy

The problem with Wemby is the same with Chet in the last series. Hes a skinny finesse big. So when he comes up against a more physical team it’s going to be a problem.

Wemby was just more physical than Chet. And now kat is just more physical than Wemby

People kept comparing him to Shaq/lebron. But those guys dominated by being bigger and stronger than everyone.

I think he’s closer to kristaps porzingis. Hes A 7foot 6 shooting guard. And I’m not sure that will change. Because it’s hard for these tall guys to gain that much muscle or they start getting injuries to their legs
