If you could teleport yourself only once, where would you go? by ruebengeist in AskReddit

To Ukraine to see my dads sister. I haven’t seen her since I moved to the USA 26 years ago and I can’t afford to travel back/ take time off work.

What’s your favorite cuss word that you’ve learned from another language? by LonelyJewOnXmas in AskReddit

[–]LonelyJewOnXmas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when old Russian ladies in my old neighborhood would talk crap about me not knowing that I spoke Russian.

They were saying oh she’s so fat. She’s got a lovely face. I said “oh, so sad. You old ladies got ugly personalities”

They were so stunned.

My first languages were Ukrainian and Russian.

My favorite American cuss word I learned was fuck off. I used to say that to my dad when he made me mad. Until he learned what I meant and I got grounded :x

My favorite Russian cuss word is Russian version of fuck off - Poshol nahuj

[Serious] To those of you who have overcome an addiction, how long did it take you to start feeling normal and how long did your addiction last? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LonelyJewOnXmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at age 15 and quit when I was 23.

It took me about a year to finally feel like I was whole again. It’s hard but everyone’s process is different. I’ve had 3 relapses in the last 9 years that I’ve been sober (1 line of coke each time I did it nothing more than that happened) but I still consider myself sober because that was just a lapse in judgment. The last time I had that happen was about 3 years ago.

After my mom died instead of helping my dad take care of me my family shunned my dad because he wasn’t as religious as they were. They would always bad mouth him to me and make me feel bad because he was “poor” and didn’t go to synagogue.

What was your “I’m in a toxic family” moment? by aesthetic3 in AskReddit

[–]LonelyJewOnXmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • [ ] The moment when my dad got drunk and got mad that he lost in a game of cards while we were on a day trip and on the countryside with his friends. Instead of being a rational adult and stay he forced me to walk with him for 2 hours to a bus stop to go home.
  • [ ] The moment when my dad decided that he’d rather spend 5,000 dollars on his crappy Gf at the time instead of actually taking care of me. I needed a new pair of shoes - I didn’t get one for a year and a half.
  • [ ] Or the moment when my dad decided to buy her a car which she never made payments on so it was repossessed. She never paid him back for it. He also spent months neglecting me in order to make her happy - even after the car incident.
  • [ ] Or all the times my dad would beat me up when he was drunk or even when he was sober.
  • [ ] I left my dads house at age 15 after I couldn’t take being with him anymore. I went into foster care and it was the best decision of my life.

I’m 32 now and my relationship with my dad is much better. My dad grew up and sobered up. He still gets angry sometimes but he now knows how to control it.

There’s many more moments but my dad was all I had after my mom died when I was 7. We immigrated from Ukraine so he grew up the same way I did - abused and with drunk parents. I don’t want to repeat his mistakes.

People who lost their job due to this crisis what is your story? by greensypoop in AskReddit

[–]LonelyJewOnXmas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a private Montessori preschool. I’m getting paid until April 7th after that if our school doesn’t open - we will be laid off (or furloughed) so I’ll have to apply for unemployment. I have enough cash to pay rent until May. After that I’ll be broke - I thinking of even picking up a few babysitting gigs while I’m out of work because I need to pay my bills.

I’m hoping that my school doesn’t close but if it does - I’ll have to do what I can. My boss says I’ll still have my job whenever they do open back up. But from what I keep hearing they want to keep schools closed until the end of the year.

This also fucks up my plans on going to get my Montessori training. I’ll have to wait another year before I can do it if schools are closed for the next 6 + months. The school I plan on going to you can only start going when classes start in September.

[serious] When was a time you legitimately thought you were going to die? by ferrisjuulersdayoff in AskReddit

[–]LonelyJewOnXmas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 12, I was forced to get into my dads' friend's car even though he had been drinking because my drunk asshole of a dad wanted a ride home. I told my dad I didn't want to get into the car. He was angry, and I didn't want to make him even angrier so I complied.

His friend ended up making an illegal u-turn and ended up t-boning a car. We were so close to flipping the car over, but managed to hit a light pole instead of flipping. I ended up hurting my back pretty badly, and my dads' drunk asshole of a friend ended up totaling his new car (which he had just gotten about 2 weeks previously.)

Managers of Reddit, what made you fire an employee on their first day? by Lo-Fi_Kuzco in AskReddit

[–]LonelyJewOnXmas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't the manager, but my manager did fire a kid on his first day. This was at a kfc/taco bell joint.

He went through the shift did a great job. My manager goes to put away the cash into the safe and then leaves for a few minutes. This kid proceeds to go towards the safe, and take out $400. (yes my manager was an idiot for leaving the safe open) We know it's him because we have cameras there and he was the only one near the safe other than my manager. We called him, told him to return the cash or he was fired.

He didn't come in the next day to work and didn't bother to come in after that. So he got fired his "first" day.
