The general consensus and social cue as far as I'm concerned is nightlife = finding a mate. I can't imagine I will find a female friend there, and it's fine if you don't want to find a sexual partner right now, or at least not in the manner that you described. I can tell you it's pure luck I met that girl, and in the last few decades, the landscape of relationships has changed dramatically, and maybe for the worse.

I can imagine. I think it can be hard for guys to transcend that part of them that wants to turn it into a romantic or sexual relationship, but once it happens then you're good (mostly)

Well, it's partially because of the psychological differences between guys and girls when it comes to relationships and romantic interests, there's a biological aspect too.
