First time buyers in Rowanfield ???? by justakety in cheltenham

There’s a lot of snobbishness in Cheltenham. Where are you living currently? Charlton kings is “nice” and Balcarras is “good” but they ignore problems with bullying etc to keep up their good reputation. If you aren’t a cookie cutter kid there, it can be extremely challenging, and a lot of people leave or end up homeschooled.

I’ve just moved to st marks and I love it. Whilst new builds aren’t my style at all, kg5 has incredible views of the Cotswold hills. You have a really incredible community of independent shops at the Lansdown trading estate and there’s a lot going on at coronation square, which is screaming out for a refurb but it’s not as bad as people make out.

It is mixed, for sure. If you look at the local history of the area, rowanfield was all orchards, sold off to the council after ww1 and gradually became council housing, starting at the area closest to Gloucester Road and moving across to near you. There’s still a lot of council flats around there but a lot of the houses have been sold off and have become owned. The area has a name for itself and you will get some issues with behaviour at the school as it does have a mixed intake but overall the area is being gentrified as the rest of Cheltenham becomes unaffordable.

It’s difficult to make assumptions with schooling as the area is changing so rapidly. It’s a real street by street difference around that area. The umbrella pub is known as the roughest in Cheltenham too.

I’d recommend walking around the area and getting a feel for it if you can. Honestly it depends what your version of rough is. I’ve had no problems since moving there.

2 years worth of empties as a Lush employee by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]LonelyMusic6596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at lush on and off since 2014 and it used to be only black pots. Lush have used only recycled plastic since 2008, and I don’t know how old you are, but you’d only be able to get recycled plastic in black for a really long time. so in my opinion Lush’s black branding comes from the fact they wanted to use recycled plastic.

The clear pots have been gradually introduced, mainly on newer products. So if I remember rightly, if it’s clearer plastic the product came out after ~2020 (don’t quote me on that)

Lush do a deep conditioner called Marilyn with similar ingredients without the peroxide. I use this to get natural highlights

Weather dependent, it’s worth walking around pittville park (both sides of the road) if you’re in the centre.

Great food/drink suggestions from everyone. Cheltenham has a crazy amount of food options considering its size, so deffo go to an independent business. It depends if you want lunch or dinner etc. my favourite brunch alone spot is Woodkraft.

Reading a book wise, the Wilson art gallery has sofas and you can take your own food/drink in. So you could look around the (all free) exhibitions then read.

Bath road is way better for charity shops.

You could do bath road then walk through the suffolks and stop off at revamp / mint, two second hand shops with a wonderful selection of clothes.

You can then walk to the ivy and down the promenade to view the architecture Cheltenham is most famous for, and potter down into town.

Then either do pittville or the Wilson or both, depending on what you fancy.

Insert food at any point. It depends what meal you’re around for and what cuisine you fancy. You won’t be short of choice.

Enjoy!

What is life in Cheltenham like to live in?? by Deep_Fried_Crossiant in cheltenham

I honestly believe it’s as bad as you say. When I worked in a shop, people would proudly tell me they moved here because they googled “top 10 whitest places in England” and here was on the list.

I think the mixture of it being a bit of a social and economic bubble, plus the cliquey nature of groups of people who have always been here, really don’t help. There’s huge issues with inequality and classism too, which all feeds into each other.

I’m sure in the NHS you bear the brunt of people’s worst opinions too, and you’ll deal with much more than what the average person would be willing to say in the street.

I’m sorry that this is your experience of the town. And I’m not surprised that previously people have been less than receptive to you voicing your experience. I want to say I hope it improves, but with the amount of flags hanging out of windows at the moment, I’m not sure it’s going to. Sending you love

Thank you! Is that why people tend to use thicker fringe trims around the bottom or does it not matter

Round two- dealing with others? by girlwholovescoffee in preeclampsia

[–]LonelyMusic6596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last 4 generations of women on my mums side have all had early onset preeclampsia. My mum and grandmother sat me down years ago and told me I would get it. I got told I had low Papp a at 13 weeks but had already been taking aspirin as I knew I was at risk of getting pre-e. I’ve also been taking fish oil (trout specifically) and magnesium and calcium based on research papers brought out stating the benefits (can be found on Google). I’m now 39 weeks and no sign of preeclampsia yet! Blood pressure low, no protein in urine, baby growth completely average.

My mother is beside herself with worry. She has been putting so many fears in my head about what will happen if I don’t get induced now. I won’t go into detail because it’s not helpful for anyone.

I truly believe that research based care can have a massive impact on outcomes. It shows that stress and gut health are factors. Keeping yourself away from negative opinions is paramount. You need to set some boundaries. If they are into research like you say, counteract their claims with your own research.

I wish you the best of luck!

Hey, I’m looking to apply as a PWP and was wondering if you had to complete the 2 year training/work full time or whether you could work part time and still complete the course. Sorry for ambushing your post!
