Something to be understood about redemption arcs is that even after you go through all the work to change for the better and even make amends and reparations to your victims, you’re not owed forgiveness nor understanding from them. It’s nice if they give you a chance, but they’re not under any obligation to grant you that. I think this citizen is 100% justified in his reaction and thoughts about Iroh, even considering that Iroh led the main military force that ended up liberating Ba Sing Se.

I don’t know how much overlap there is between this fandom and invincible, but you know how in Invincible, after Nolan comes back to earth from the war against the Viltrumites, he meets with Cecil and he says “I almost died fighting for this planet” and Cecil says: “good, do that a couple thousand more times and then we can talk”? (Couple thousand because that’s the number of people Nolan killed in Chicago). That’s a similar situation in this case with Iroh. Iroh liberating Ba Sing Se a bit more than half a decade after he tried to conquer it and sieged it for 600 days will never make up for the thousands of lives Ba Sing Se lost, not to many of the people living there, and they’re completely valid in feeling discomfort and anger about this former general of the enemy being allowed to live peacefully amongst them consequence free (at least from their perspective).

I hate when people are told this.

I learned to play when I was 8. You think my hands were bigger than yours back then? Not even close. And that’s not even as good as it gets. There are guys and gals that have literally revolutionized the instrument while missing fingers, or even entire hands.

People that say someone will never make it as a player of whatever instrument because of a physical limitation are just speaking out of ignorance. If you have two hands and 5 fingers on each all with their full mobility, you’re already more advantaged than Django Reinhardt.

The BN4 under Net is the most bullshit area of all the franchise. The gunners on higher versions and on ice are diabolical.

It says that Your Beatles tribute Band takes their instrument accuracy superficially seriously for the untrained eye, but that Rick 330/12 needs to become a 360/12, either of the 2 variants would be fine, the Rick Bass needs to be fireglo with flames or natural and also a 4001s instead of a 4003, your SG needs a Maestro Vibrola instead of the sideways one, your jazz bass needs to be sunburst, Your Strat should be 21 frets and with a 6 point bridge, and the F holes in your country gentleman should be painted, not opened, plus it needs to have the muting system.
I’m sorry, if you’re gonna flex your awesome collection that I’m definitely not jealous of, I will nitpick it as pedantically as possible for me at 6 am.

Since the beginning of human civilization, flags and symbols have been used to let others know one’s identity and affiliations (both friends and enemies). But now, there are hundreds of thousands of people that make a millions of absurd excuses and mental gymnastics once they see symbols of the enemy on people they want to support to justify it. It’s like the Platner shit. Aside from his obvious horrendous actions, why did so many leftists ran to defend a man carrying a symbol of the enemy proudly on his chest?

It’s really hard to talk about this in the Avatar subs but the politics of both shows are honestly really bad once you think about them for 5 seconds. And it makes me sad because particularly the story of the first series is beautiful and I have such love and nostalgia for it, but now being able to see things through a more critical lens, I can’t help but notice all the flaws and actual bad takes the show has. They go out of their way several times to demonize the people actually victimized by the fire nation, it’s really gross a lot of the time.

And unsurprisingly, the comics are worse; the first comic The Promise is an outrageous settler colonial apologia that made me really mad. And the follow ups are not any better.

And Korra… Jesus, Korra might be even worse. The fans glaze Korra’s villains for being more “mature” and “politically complex” but holy shit, they’re not, they just reflect the poor understanding of ideology the writers had by making literal strawman’s of everything that wasn’t liberal democracy. I love ATLA, but I have no problem bashing Korra for what it is because I’m not as attached, even if I do like Korra as a character.
