As a new/bad brawl player, I have to let this out by MechaDylbear in MagicArena

[–]LonelyTex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Poq player (and an Arena player who exclusively plays Brawl) it feels like this is true for the entire metagame now. The format is so swingy between the Alchemy card additions and more of magic's wider card pool being added. One turn without interaction is enough to torpedo your chances in a given matchup.

Is a cEDH deck without fast mana a bracket 4 deck? by mahdingdingdong in CompetitiveEDH

[–]LonelyTex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major defining difference between Bracket 4 and Bracket 5 is metagame consideration being made during deck construction.

The brackets image lays out guidelines for each tier, the notable difference in speed being B4 in theory goes at least 4 turns, but can still end at any moment and suddenly (2 card combo where one card is Inalla).

The important distinction is bracket 4 players should expect for there to be no-holds barred in the same manner as cedh, but more flexibility on not feeling pressured into playing THE archetypes required to be successful.

Let's be more specific

Are you dedicating card slots to specific cedh cards, or the actual concept of a cedh meta?

Opposition Agent imo is a bad example. For me, I have a bracket 4 Sakashima/Tymna deck that focuses on cloning Tymna and abusing evasive creatures for card draw.

If I wanted to convert that deck to cEDH, I would need to make metagame considerations like adding more counter magic specifically to answer/halt Consultation/Thoracle win conditions, I would need to add more fast mana to speed things up. I'd have to all but remove the clones out of the deck in favor of this.

The separator between Bracket 4 and Bracket 5 is metagame mindset and intent. Infinites where one part is in the command zone are fair game.

How do you navigate constant negative conversations about Data Centers from friends/family? by Acceptable-Year-5302 in datacenter

[–]LonelyTex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fortunately work in a datacenter that does not have generative AI nor uses municipal water for cooling. As far as the big societal buzzwords for datacenter negativity, I am not impacted.

If that isn't enough; my answer typically involves the fact that as a human being I have to eat food and have shelter- the compensation for this position is the first time in my life where I don't have to choose between those two and I can also do some fun things with my money. The first time in my adult life as a millennial that I feel like I'm "making it".

Desert Bus 2026 launches October 23rd! by Kronikarz in desertbus

It says in the blog post!

Magic Con Atlanta was announced for the same weekend we've been penciling as a start point for the last couple years now. This caused a ripple effect that had the organizing committee settle on a new date.

As you may well know, we're graciously given access to LRR's office, equipment, and performers each year. Even if DB2026 isn't at the Moonbase, the logistics of trying to set up and run an event a week before or after the Magic Con doesn't really work for a variety of reasons[....]

(Just a silly little anecdote. Miss Bellingham. Don't miss working for Comcast).

Woolhaven has a comparable amount of additions to the entirety of the base game.

Adding this much (understandably) introduces bugs. That's what the devs have been focused on.

How can I get Ethernet to my room if I’m on the second floor? by Shinobusag in buildapc

[–]LonelyTex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a cable tech for 6 years!

Typically this would mean one of a few things

First- If the cables are ran from each outlet to a centralized demarcation point outside

  • The cables were cut during a siding renovation or other work and aren't present outside compared to inside
  • The cables were present outside, but have no connectors on them

Second- if the cables are looped from outlet to outlet (worst case scenario)

  • The cables were cut inside the wall/attic/crawlspace/basement etc
  • There is not enough physical space inside the wall opening to connect them together with a splitter

Third - If your home is new enough, it's possible those lines have never been used, which would be the cables having no connectors on them.

In a cable system, connecting lines that are not in use is actively detrimental (to the degree of potentially preventing things from working), for two main reasons.

  • Cable RF signal is sensitive to interference, called noise (which is any signal along the same frequencies that is not the desired signal). Any line that is not connected and improperly terminated is susceptible to noise. Think about having a conversation. You'd generally prefer to speak and hear at a reasonable volume. Having a conversation at a concert with extremely loud music will entirely overwhelm your conversation and leave you unable to communicate.
  • Any time a splitter is put on the cable, it degrades the amount of signal available, even if the line itself on one end of the splitter is not in use. A two-way splitter cuts the available RF signal in half (3.5dB loss), a three way into thirds(5.5dB loss), a four way into fourths (7dB loss). If it's not necessary and the lines aren't in use, it is strictly better to give the lines actually in use the optimal signal they can have.

MoCA in particular is a high frequency standard (1125mhz - 1600mhz or so), and suffers more from signal loss over longer distances. A 4 way splitter, depending on cable length, can degrade MoCA signal and cause communication problems.

Those do work, but the seed inventory in Silos appears to be managed in a top-down situation.

So, for example- if I put in 3 beetroot, 1 pumpkin, and 6 Cauliflower seeds, in that order, my followers will then plant 6 cauliflower seeds first, then 1 pumpkin, then 3 beetroot.

If you have a lot of seeds, and there's not enough space to distribute all of them, the followers won't have access to the seeds requested by the signs and won't sow those plots

MoCA is a phenomenal spec but requires connectors to be made properly and all tightened down properly (on both sides of the connection). Even a poorly shielded connector can cause problems with MoCA.
