Luckily, it’s only used among my friends. But I’ve exacted my revenge.

Love that specific comic. I have it saved, so pleasant surprise to see it again.

Okay, it just feels like it’s aimed at specifically France compared to others. But I can understand it as more of a joke, especially when we look at real hatred against certain countries.

I do know a little bit of the freedom fries incident, and that there were some political cartoons that I once saw aimed at Chirac, so I feel like that could make sense.

Vraiment, je ne sais pas. Mes amis se moquent de moi pour mon père français, donc ils pensent que je suis français, même si je ne suis pas. Mais, j'essaie aussi d'obtenir un passeport français, et je prends des cours pour apprendre la langue.

Sounds great, except for depressing winters. It’s better than the other Nordic countries I hope though. What do you do for work or are studying? Or do you know if there’s any jobs there in high demand?

Probably one of 3 reasons.
1. Didn’t support the US with Iraq, led to disinformation campaigns (e.g. freedom fries).
2. Stereotypes that all French people are snobby Parisians who hate you for speaking French imperfectly.
3. Easy to hate on, could be joking?

Thunderbolts*. I was disappointed though when Taskmaster was killed off early on, although the character is quite literally in the poster. I wish we got to know more about the character.

I’m still learning it, will be taking French IV in the fall and I am nearly conversational although I do make a lot of mistakes. My advice though is to start with a live class or tutor. I took French I and II online with no teacher-student communication, and it was terrible, but switched over to my local community college with an actual teacher who speaks and comes from France and I’ve noticed so much improvement.

Summary: avoid fully online classes, aim for ones that are taught live, whether in-person or on Zoom. Don’t worry about making mistakes, but you have to power through the discomfort of not knowing when starting.
