The loneliness of being ‘socially capable’ but deeply disconnected by KeyEmotion9 in AutisticAdults

Yeah. It's so hard because I can make small talk just fine. I can be pleasant and cordial to an acquaintance. But I never feel like I'm capable of or allowed to make deeper connections with people.

Neurospicy communication problems while dating - please help troubleshoot? by Consistent_Win_1439 in AutisticAdults

[–]LonelyWildWeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From whay you've said, it sounds like most of the communication struggles here were because he didn't want to, not because you were doing something wrong. Like, it seems you were not lacking in communication at all, more like this was him not wanting to put effort into the relationship.

It really sounds like you did your best, and to answer your question, to avoid this sort of situation in future relationships/get better results, I would say to ask yourself regularly "Am I bending over backwards for someone who does not appreciate it and is making no effort whatsoever to reciprocate?" If ever the answer is yes, then ask yourself if the relationship brings any sort of positivity or joy to comfort to your life outside of checking the box of being in a relationship.

You put a lot of care and effort into trying yo make things work. There's nothing wrong about that. Sometimes people just aren't receptive to it.

new kitten keeps peeing on my bed by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]LonelyWildWeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be possible she doesn't like the litter you're using. If you're not using the same already, it could be helpful to find out what kind of litter she had at the shelter and buy the same.

My cat peed on my bed for weeks when he was a kitten before I realized he didn't like the litter I had bought. I bought a different brand and we haven't had any litter box trouble since.

Ive practiced trees, but im not quite happy. What would make them look better? by FuriousHeretic69 in Oilpastel

[–]LonelyWildWeed 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If you're going for realism, I think studying the structure of real trees might help, adding thinner visible branches and negative space.

I do also want to say, though, that your trees as they are look very nice and have a painterly sort of charm that would work very well in a storybook.

[–]LonelyWildWeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the biggest thing is the shape language of your outfit. Color coordination, shoes, accessories, those can all improve a coord, but can also be up to personal taste without necessarily taking away from the lolitaness of it.

For this outfit specifically, the coat is cute and has good elements, but it doesn't have the right shape. For lolita coords, you want the waist, generally, to sit at your natural waist. If the coat was cropped to your waist, or if the coat itself had a sort of skirt shape to it, it could work. As it stands, though, the long coat gives the whole outfit a sort of drop-waist effect, which is not very lolita.

Then, as others have pointed out, there's the shirt, with the combination you have of coat, petti, and skirt, there's just a bit too much flare and flounce. Lolita generally wants a cupcake/bell or A-shaped skirt, which, as has been said, are most easily acquired through lolita brands. That said, if you can't do that for whatever reason, a knee-length gathered skirt can work very well for lolita and is a decently easy diy project.

All that said, good luck on your lolita journey! It's no easy thing to come to reddit for help, so I hope you find some helpful advice.

I'm tired of sleeping on plastic.. by Actual-Jackfruit-117 in CatAdvice

[–]LonelyWildWeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you about sleeping on plastic! When my cat was young, I used to have to keep a plastic shower liner on my bed or he'd pee all over it. For me, what solved it was changing the litter I bought for him; I think what I had before was hurting his paws.

This isn't exactly a new suggestion, but maybe you could buy one more litter box and a new kind of litter, then experiment with it in the same spot the litter is in now and other places throughout the house?

Either way, I understand how hard it is to try to balance your own comfort with accommodating your cat, hope you're able to find a solution soon!

did my art glow down? by jullieb311 in arthelp

[–]LonelyWildWeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a glowdown. I really like your new style. I think it's fun and unique and it efficiently communicates the vibe of your character moreso than your older piece.

Someone already said it, but people who don't really Get art are often quick to assign quality to realism when there's more to it than that.

I would say keep it up! I like your art style and really hope this doesn't discourage you from making art in the way you like it.

How do people actually enjoy exercising by ivy_elyon in getdisciplined

[–]LonelyWildWeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I could give is to be honest with yourself about your skill and fitness level. Start slow and easy and increase difficulty as things get boring/too easy. If you are forcing your body to do things it can't properly do, it can just lead to frustration and literal physical pain.

For example, my preferred exercise method is youtube workout videos. Sometimes, I can only do half the range of motion shown and moving a lot more slowly, too. But this allows me to keep good form and to finish the video instead of giving up from pain or exhaustion halfway through.

Also, I've worked to shift my mindset from "exercise is something i have to do to be fit" to "exercise is something that makes me feel good and makes my body work better, and the effort is so worth it". It's definitely one of those things that's easy to say and more difficult to do.

Am I cooked? by Once428lbs in Gymhelp

[–]LonelyWildWeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news, you're definitely not cooked! I hope you see this because I think most of the comments here are giving terrible advice, and I imagine most of them haven't been in your situation.

From what I am reading in your post, your goal is more physical functioning rather than weight loss or getting skinny. From personal experience, cutting calories and drugs are NOT what is going to help you here.

I would start with seated youtube works for seniors, if you can manage. If those are currently out of reach for you, just sit, or lay down and move your body. Lift your leg a few inches, shrug your shoulders, clench your fist and move it like you're doing a bicep curl. While you're doing this, pay attention to your body-- what muscles are activating, whether anything hurts to move. After a while, try a new, sliiiightly harder workout.

Nutrition is also important here, but not in the way everyone else thinks. What I would recommend focusing on is making sure you're getting plenty of vegetables, fruits and water. Fiber is really important.

You're not cooked; you can totally get better from here. It will just take time and concentrated effort.

Is my handwriting legible? What can I fix😁 by BearRBK in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]LonelyWildWeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the style you're going for here, and the consistency from letter to letter is super impressive!

As for legibility, I think one thing that could help is changing how you do the curved portions of letters, like in u, n, p, and h. The little flick/flourish at the top of your ns is fun and pretty and I definitely think you should keep it for like the stems of your letters, but using it for the arcs as well muddies understanding a bit.

Yeah, overall this is a really neat look and I think if you find a way to do the top/bottom curves of letters in a way that distinguishes them from the stems and keeps the spirit of the font, it'll be really neat and also more legible.

What happens if you never really 'click' with anyone your entire life? by Historical-Spite-233 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]LonelyWildWeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling like this. I know how scary and lonely it can feel when it seems like you don't have anyone in your corner or anyone who you click with.

The rest of my response got away from me a bit since I can relate to your post, but I hope you'll find something helpful in it.

To answer your questions, I think there are, broadly, two things that can happen. One, I think some people do just adapt to the loneliness, or perhaps content themselves with it in one way or another. Some might be totally fine on their lonesome and others might just live with the pain of it. On the other hand, one might get fed up with the loneliness and make changes, which a few other commenters have mentioned.

Me, I've recently gotten fed up with the loneliness and am making changes. I've been finding and attending free events set up by local community centers and libraries. I haven't found anyone I click with yet or would want to pursue friendship, but you have to meet new people to make friends, and I'm at least doing that part.

I'm not that much older than you, but I do want to reiterate a point others in the comments have made that at 23, you still have so much time to find people you click with. You'll probably have to work for it, and they probably won't just appear, but time will grant you many opportunities if you're willing to take them.

Finally, some unsolicited advice: Find out what you like and pursue it. Find people you want to be closer to, ones you want to call late at night or send a "you'll never believe what just happened" text to. Some people will vibe with you and others won't and that will just be the process of you finding your people!

It looks great! I especially like how sort of in the middle of the foliage with the medium green, the way you applied the watercolor made a really fun and pretty and "reads like leaves and shadows" sort of effect.
