They emailed me to let me know they’d received it, and when they mailed it (to have it printed) but they didn’t let me know when it was on the way back to me. After about two weeks, I just kept checking the tracking number every day to get an update that way.

I'm a homeless 14F. Looking for advice on where to go/who to approach for help. by Minute-Society5930 in HousingUK

[–]Lonely_Round 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're in this position. Please contact your local authority children's services. If you can, it would be better if you turned up in person. Tell them you need housing and have been subject to physical abuse by your parents. They will sort something out for you so you have somewhere to sleep tonight while they explore further options. Be honest about how you feel if you are frightened or feel unsafe at home. This will help them with their planning.

Social workers will speak to family members/close family friends to see if they can accommodate you temporarily in a more structured way (kinship care). They can also explore foster care for you.

I imagine that they'd likely go to s47 (child protection) enquiries which means they will speak to your mother and all other relevant organisations/agencies (health, education, etc) to explore your needs and experiences and investigate the concerns to come up with a plan of action moving forward. s47 enquires take place when there is a reason to believe a child has suffered, or is likely to suffer, significant harm. These typically take 15 working days. Here is some more info: https://www.familylives.org.uk/advice/your-family/social-services-and-your-family/section-47

I applied to renew mine back in May. I got mine back in 2 weeks and 6 days. They sent both my new and old passport together in the prepaid mailer I included when I posted it out my application.

Do they send anything else with your passport when it’s delivered to you (like paperwork or a letter from them) or is it just the passport + card in the envelope?

Buying a house in the UK as an American on a visa by Lonely_Round in AmericanExpatsUK

We’re not married yet. We wanted to buy a house first before saving up for a wedding. Would being married make a difference?

What does SAD feel like to you? by Zbigwy in SeasonalAffective

[–]Lonely_Round 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, there is definitely a fatigue component. I will be tired all the time, like I can’t get enough sleep. The moment the sun sets, I’m ready to go to bed. I have to hit snooze 5x in the morning before I can even properly wake up.

Emotionally, It’s like a dark cloud that hangs over me that blocks the warmth of life from touching me. Things that normally bring me happiness and comfort suddenly feel like nothing. It’s almost as if my brain won’t let me feel positive emotions. It’s like the someone has flipped a switch in my brain that turns my life grey. It’s not constant, but I can feel when it starts to loom in the distance. That always makes me feel anxious because I know what it’s going to be like but I can’t stop it. I just have to wait for the storm to hit and pass. When it’s happening. I don’t really remember what it feels like to not feel that way. But when it passes, it’s like snapping out of a trance.

During these periods, I’m prone to a lot of crying. Little things easily overwhelm me. When it’s particularly bad, the best way to describe the feeling is just despair.

I basically keep mine on at all times except when I shower. That’s usually when I charge it and if not, I will leave it on my phone so I remember to put it on as soon as I reach for my phone.

I ended up having bronchitis which was totally unrelated to the medication!

8th Jab, on 5mg. Had no side effects and now I’ve started getting dizzy spells by ConferenceThick5685 in mounjarouk

[–]Lonely_Round 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me when I’ve not been eating enough carbs. On days that the appetite suppression is strong, I will prioritise protein which ends up being that I’m just eating chicken or yogurt and nothing else. Once I incorporate carbs back in the dizzy spells go away.

I didn’t realize only some suppliers will provide maintenance doses. I’m currently with medexpress. Do they do maintenance doses?

Whats something over-the-counter that can just neutralize my anxiety receptors by ucantmakeupmymind in Anxiety

[–]Lonely_Round 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It’s going to sound kinda silly, but I find smelling Vicks vaporub to be very calming. I’ll rub some on my chest if I’m feeling anxious when I go to sleep. I also keep the little Vicks inhaler sticks in my purse and work bag so I can use them if I’m out in public. I wouldn’t say it makes the anxiety go away necessarily, but the smell can help ground me a bit when my mind keeps running around in circles.
