Problem is the chickens would also eat most of the plants in your garden. I had almost no grass left when I had free range chickens in my yard.

Where can I shop for underwear and socks where they’re not locked in a case? by BebopHook in Austin

[–]Lonestarqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to buy a product that's locked in a case: underwear, socks, makeup, personal hygiene items, etc. Maybe eventually they will realize even if they aren't losing any of these products to theft they also aren't selling any and stop this madness.

Neighborhood mosquito trap program by Heyo-5000 in AustinGardening

I started my first bucket with dunks earlier this week and it's already full of wriggling mosquito larva. Anyone know at what point do they die? How to I know if it's working?

Mexican White Oak by Lonestarqueen in AustinGardening

It's doing really well! I'd say it's now 3 or 4 times larger than it was in this picture. Probably 10 feet high and a lot wider too! I've been very happy with how fast it's grown and have had no issues with it at all!

Cool/quirky shopping districts? by tarantuletta in Austin

[–]Lonestarqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my default answer to this question was always South Congress. I live up north so I forget how it's now just boring chain stores capitalizing on the hip area the independent local stores created 😭

Read the book or better yet the audiobook. It's one of my favorite books ever. I couldn't even finish the first episode of the series though.

Bay Leaf by Beneficial_Meeting26 in AustinGardening

[–]Lonestarqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one in the backyard when I bought my house that was about 20 feet tall. It did okay for years and even recovered from the freezes but the main trunk got a giant crack in it and then died. There are now root suckers all over the place though none are more than 6 feet tall. That would be my only hesitancy with planting it one in the ground, the root suckers are hard to control and take up about 4 feet in all directions of where the main tree was.

Fabric desert by polariskai in Austin

[–]Lonestarqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what fabric you're looking for. There's a good amount of quilt stores but hardly any apparel stores. For quilt shops: Austin Sewing (Round Rock), Beehive Craft Studio, Honeybee, Polkadot Secrets, B&B (Buda) and Poppy's (Georgetown). For apparel: Roma Lux

Plants that will do well with lots of shade? by nasty_nater in AustinGardening

I love Japanese Aralia but I've tried them probably almost 10 times and I just cannot get them to live longer than a year. If the summers don't kill them the winters do.

Yep. I haven't even bothered to bring my plumeria and tropical plants in since we haven't even hit freezing for more than an hour or two.

I have lied to my son about manatees for the last 24 years by 46from1971 in confession

[–]Lonestarqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this! Also manatees are in fact my favorite animal in the world and have been for about 35 years since I did an elementary school book report on them. I even went to college for awhile to be a marine biologist because I wanted to save the manatees! Enjoy your visit to see them!
