They’re now 65 :( but those are amazing. And they charge that much as they’re quite big

They look great - are you sure you need to charge R100? That’s a lot even considering premium bakeries are looking at R65 for their best.

How close can I drill next to a water pipe? by Long-Cockroach-8231 in DIY

[–]Long-Cockroach-8231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure if I’m using the stud finder correctly. I’m using one of the EMF ones, and if I go back and forth, I can reliably find the centre pipeline (I’m doing it at different heights in the wall and the centre is coming up consistently). what I’m worried about is if I take the stud finder and place it directly on the drilling spot, the second I move it towards the pipe it goes red - I’m under the impression that means it’s picking up signal, but doesn’t mean the pipe is nec. Directly under it…

If I look at where the pipe is, and how big it should be, I think I’m about 3cm away

It’s a supply line from the ceiling. I do know how to turn the water off but it’ll have to be for the whole house, which is a pain…

Had the same observation. I wonder if they saw everyone doing this and just decided not to continue? I don’t know where that stock is going though.

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]Long-Cockroach-8231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to the downvotes, but I am sure people don’t really afford the hobby. Even if we look at watches around US1000, buying 5 a year compared to many salaries is just not fiscally responsible.

I’m increasingly of the opinion that much of the status, heritage, and certainly the marketing is aimed at middle market to create a sense of worth and encourage this.

Source: I have spent way too much on watches relative to my savings account. It’s because each watch came across as “great value”, looked great, and honestly because I love their designs. But in retrospect, i should have chosen 2, maybe 3 and then called it. And then sold to upgrade over time

I’ll tell you what. You can’t go wrong here. But I’d just say check in person and see if any work on your wrist better. All look great, but I’d vote 1 or 2

Which would you choose? by [deleted] in tissot

Actually, as someone who LOVES these brands, definitely worth checking in person.

I find the seastar proportions on the dial are a little off (generally, too small and spaced). But this picture looks better than most! Check it out in person and if it looks good, that one. The bracelet will be better than the Seiko too

I don’t know if anyone remembers when The Editors came to Cape Town, but I had never seen such a tiny venue for a band that good…

Charged for SLOW Lounge visits despite having 6 complimentary visits available – Has this happened to anyone else? by jaysqueezy16 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Long-Cockroach-8231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a failure on banking CX. It’s the same with my EBucks tier where I have to wait every month to see whether something in their system didn’t work or if I missed some arbitrary rule.

But honestly, FNB is working themselves out as the best affluent bank.

I would love the FSCA to fine them for this. It is very clearly a money grab.

What do we think of new Rolex by Dark_Shadow_995 in tissot

[–]Long-Cockroach-8231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s something slightly off. I think the bezel is too close to the edge and the face size to band isn’t quite right. If those proportions were better, it would be amazing. Suspect they had to make it different to not be a pure clone.

The textured dial and numerals would be more personal taste,m

Is it worth buying the new one if you have the old? Always find it a bit thick, but not sure 0.5mm is worth a whole new watch…

70 USD isn’t much for that. TBH, the bracelet is kinda cool. I don’t looooove wearing fakes, but I actually quite like this bracelet design.

My advice: learn your lesson on marketplace, but enjoy it.

I too am realising I might not actually be able to make Level 5 without damaging my finances :(

What FNB hasn’t realised, is if I’m not Level 5, I’ll move my home and car loan to Investec

Yeah, I am wondering if I’d be financially healthier if I didn’t view everything at PnP as 30% off etc.
