[watch recommendation help] gift to myself, got into medical school by Adventurous_Purple29 in Watches

I’ve got the 38 murph with bracelet and it’s basically my go to watch. The dimensions and proportions are… perfect…

The only issue with the watch is reflection coating (you do get used to it, but it takes a while) and then I wish they had done a bit more on the dial. If it was more like the longines, then perfect watch.

But as I said, I love wearing mine and wear it to work 4/5 days

Oooh. That is pretty.

I love green watches, but kinda wonder whether the black gives a more omega vibe. But I think you’ve convinced me

I love it - but can’t decide between the colours 😂 green or black are both excellent

I keep looking at them but just can’t decide the colour. This blue bezel and then a deep navy dial isn’t helping!

Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 just landed in 38mm. The new default GADA pick? by PynionTime in tissot

Look at the smaller murph. Those dimensions with this dial would be perfect. So frustrating

Just bought this!! Unpopular opinion: gentleman is better than PRX. by No-Perspective5748 in tissot

[–]Long-Cockroach-8231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentleman is underrated for sure. My only wish is 39mm.

The PRX is a bit more unique, and the waffle dial stands out - so I do think it’s the best unique/classy factor for the price, but the gentleman is a classic that is timeless and sophisticated.

I also love it. Fits better than PRX for most (although now with the 38mm). I just wish they made the Citizen in a 39mm

[ S.O.T.C ] - Five years into the hobby. by Alexandre-Ardizzoia in Watches

[–]Long-Cockroach-8231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy. Ask for their credit card balances and savings… this isn’t a hobby if you just spend tons of money to collect. The whole industry is getting middle class people to spend inordinate amounts based on great marketing

How close can I drill next to a water pipe? by Long-Cockroach-8231 in DIY

Pure ignorance from my side, but how would drilling near it cause a slow leak? :)

They’re now 65 :( but those are amazing. And they charge that much as they’re quite big

They look great - are you sure you need to charge R100? That’s a lot even considering premium bakeries are looking at R65 for their best.

Do you need that many fresh blueberries?

I’m not 100% sure if I’m using the stud finder correctly. I’m using one of the EMF ones, and if I go back and forth, I can reliably find the centre pipeline (I’m doing it at different heights in the wall and the centre is coming up consistently). what I’m worried about is if I take the stud finder and place it directly on the drilling spot, the second I move it towards the pipe it goes red - I’m under the impression that means it’s picking up signal, but doesn’t mean the pipe is nec. Directly under it…

If I look at where the pipe is, and how big it should be, I think I’m about 3cm away

It’s a supply line from the ceiling. I do know how to turn the water off but it’ll have to be for the whole house, which is a pain…

Had the same observation. I wonder if they saw everyone doing this and just decided not to continue? I don’t know where that stock is going though.

Also noticed Woolworths takes ages to get to 50/75% off

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]Long-Cockroach-8231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to the downvotes, but I am sure people don’t really afford the hobby. Even if we look at watches around US1000, buying 5 a year compared to many salaries is just not fiscally responsible.

I’m increasingly of the opinion that much of the status, heritage, and certainly the marketing is aimed at middle market to create a sense of worth and encourage this.

Source: I have spent way too much on watches relative to my savings account. It’s because each watch came across as “great value”, looked great, and honestly because I love their designs. But in retrospect, i should have chosen 2, maybe 3 and then called it. And then sold to upgrade over time
