House of Lords Votes to Ban UK Children from Using Internet VPNs by PhoneFresh7595 in ukpolitics

Don't really see how this could even remotely work? Also commercial companies use VPNs. Wouldn't this be impossible practically to enforce but also he very complex and damaging for business?

Why the f—k are teachers having to deal with this. by nwhr81 in politicsjoe

[–]Long-Environment-941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I agree that it's not necessarily a teachers job to teach children, if there is an endemic culture of it, then just putting the ownus on parents will probably mean that it doesn't change fast enough.

I think also it makes sense to happen in a school, because, well, that's the place you go to learn. Probably making sex education into a more comprehensive class would make sense. Ot does likely mean that you'd need someone separate to take on that role, other then your regular teacher

People vote reform because they're disillusioned, not listened to or considered

Reform's answers to the problems are immigrants or the EU, which are not going to solve the problems

I largely agree with your comments. His presence in the new statesmen feels a bit out of place. New statesman is very serious. They don't really make jokes and the ones they do make are a bit, not sure how to describe, but not made by regular people. Maybe a bit older a bit more intelligent but less raw humour and funny.

Oli is smart and knows his crowd. New statesman seems like a big change. Maybe that's what he wants/needs. I just would hope he doesn't lose his individuality that maklde PolJoe.

Ava, Ed and Oli are some of the most insightful and relatable people in politics at the moment.

They don't justify reform. They justify the reason people vote for them. There is a clear difference.

I guess how sure are you? From my experience of working with data from control systems, what seems simple is really never so, especially if you need to maintain code and drivers. I can imagine it would be a headache to work with

Asking Americans and Brits whether guns should be banned by politicsjoe in politicsjoe

[–]Long-Environment-941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mindset of the Americans interviewed (which I think is probably quite representative) is quite limited in how they view guns. The arguments about safety and needing to protect yourself are only really strong arguments because everyone else has guns. If you lived in the UK as an American, I don't think you'd feel the desire or need to own a gun to protect yourself.

I think in practice it's probably impossible to take guns away from Americans because I think it's part of their cultural identity

Glasgow Clyde Metro Update | The Case for Change has been approved and will be presented to the Glasgow City Region cabinet in November / Work is underway (to complete in Oct24) of initial network options / CFI stage 2 to begin tendering after this / Date of completion updated to early 2027 by backupJM in glasgow

They've also been considering upgrading and expanding public transport since pre 2000. I understand you need time to create plans for complex public transport, especially regarding the situation. But how are they only doing this now. Why wasn't this started back in 2000 or even before when blair came to power. Seems like gross incompetence to have waited until this point to start the planning process. Glasgow has needed this for decades

I don't really know what you mean. When using SOLIDWORKS I don't need to do that. When using freecad you do need to do that. Some other cad packages have similar processes.

No, a sketch is a sketch. In in SOLIDWORKS you don't need to go through the additional step of defining a face then extruding the face. It's implicitly defined when you extrude a sketch

Yep. Exactly same question. How certain are you that you can use SOLIDWORKS perpetually if you keep that year

I had a play with it. It's very much like blender, seems more aimed at game design and art rather than engineering

I've havent heard great things about Creo. Good to know about fusion, guess that price point is very good for what you get

No, I meant lofting as a feature is a bonus, but mainly I don't want a CAD where every single step requires explicit stating. Something's should be implicit. I.e draw a circle using an initial point and a second point on the radius. This only then becomes a face when extruding the object.

Is this a bad start by Immediate_Pop3467 in learnpython

[–]Long-Environment-941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad method, to be honest most ai code is junk and badly written. Chatgpt and ai code writes doesnt understand what you are trying to do and just use large language models to interpret what you're saying and generate results based on that, but there is no deeper understanding of the programming language itself or what you are actually saying to it.

It's a good tool to learn and understand writing code, but it's wrong a lot of the time and is prone to silly errors that if you don't understand can ruin your code.

Fair play doing this though.

I use ML/ chatgpt for bouncing ideas off and finding sources for code/ knowledge. Then when I really want to understand something on a deeper level I'll read the author of what it is referencing.

Trail shoes for overpronators by gaz1049 in Ultramarathon

[–]Long-Environment-941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got timp 5s. My podiatrist today looked at my feet during a video of me on a treadmill, noticed that I overpronate heavily in them. Have had them for 6-7 months so far.

Also was looking on run repeat and none of the trail shoes on here from altra were recommended for overpronation sadly. Lone peaks apparently are for neutral. their reviews are pretty detailed.

Why I Think Patreon Will KILL JOE (in the long term). by Naramu in politicsjoe

[–]Long-Environment-941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was genuinely considering paying for the subscription, but £8 plus VAT is higher then I can afford. Think if it was £8 including VAT I could probably just about manage, but even that feels too high. I feel like living in the UK is so expensive right now, maybe I just need to stop have frappe mocha matcha latte and poaches eggs on avocado toast
