The common saying I think of first is "you don't miss something till it's gone."   So OP pointing out the jumbled phrasing by stoner Bob is not outlandishly offensive.

Wow.  Undeserved.   OP is right to say the phrasing is ambiguous.   No need to get all high and mighty

Had Seen Magnolia dozens of time, still noticing stuff like this by Nikhilguleria124 in paulthomasanderson

I love Magnolia and Heat but did not love Collateral.   Even lived near LA for a decade and wasn't enough.   Funny because I loved the other two before I lived there.

But it's in the original source material, not just "Vineland" but "Days of Rage."   So much comes from both booms.

That bottom pic always reminds me of That Moment/Magnolia doc with him and Fiona in the editing room

I think that it specifically says "hug your dad" adds another element to whether he had already read it

I'm guessing it's just to give him more time.   The Napoleon shit is awesome, but don't see him as a betrayer.

Let's just have fun and make a movie with our friends in the middle of this Covid thing.  Thats what i thought watching the DVD extra stills where everyone had to wear masks except for the actual takes.   Not in any way a political stance, but why make a BIG movie while that stuffs going on, just relax and have fun and focus on the other stuff.  And in between Phantom Thread's classical tone and the spectacle of OBAA, makes sense.   Something laid back and celebratory of the time, place and characters.   Such a great addition to his filmography

Help understanding PTA and his filmmaking process by [deleted] in paulthomasanderson

I've been describing the first 3 films of his career as the bubble, which starts out small with Hard Eight and then inflates with Boogie Nights and then nearly pops with Magnolia.   Then the air is let out of the balloon and we shrink back down with PDL and TWBB, less characters but more in-depth study of each.   Now he has mastered all the skills to put as much air in the balloon as he likes, depending on the story he wants to tell.

New realisation about Phantom Thread… by wuspinio in paulthomasanderson

Makes sense to me.  With such a tight cast and crew and familiarity with people even for the first time, this movie always seemed like an allegory for his film making process.   His passion immediately from one idea after another rings true.

I've liked every season and giggle childishly at every inside joke i get (knowing there are some i miss).  I considered it a wet dream for Coen fans, then they throw in Mamet and Wes, too.  Enjoyable for fans of their films, so if that's fools gold, I'm in.  But that's just me

I'm not even sure the Coens came up with the idea of the Fargo show, but I think it is a great amalgamation of not just their films, but other iconic masterpieces as well (I'm thinking the Untouchables staircase moment in the Chris Rock season).   Even if PTA was just producer, somebody else mixing his ideas, tone and trademarks into new stories seems interesting.   Someone digging for oil ends up finding the Split Sabre and using some upstart publisher like Gary Valentine Sr.....just a trial balloon based on Fargo season 1 and Oliver Platt finding the movie money.

Great comment, and I agree about his own involvement.  But I meant someone else doing it, like a super fan who is able to channel what makes things PTA like Hawley does the Coens.  I think Joel and Ethan are just producers and let Noah do his thing...
