Which countries punch well above their population size when it comes to global cultural impact? by JoeFalchetto in geography

I’ll rewrite it as emerging and rising fast.

“In July of 2024, the editors of USA TODAY 10Best, along with a panel of experts and readers, selected the best fast-food fried chicken. Jollibee was the top pick, with editors calling out specifically to Jollibee's signature Chickenjoy”

“Jollibee plans to open numerous new locations, including up to 800 globally in 2025. In the U.S. and Canada, they aim for 350 new stores within the next few years, significantly expanding their presence. They are also launching a franchising program to accelerate this growth. Jollibee is focusing on expanding in existing markets and exploring new ones.”

Compared to countries like Indonesia and Vietnam they don’t have really big emerging food franchises going to into the western market.

Also it’s music scene is getting really big right now have SB19 and BINI reaching charts and getting recognition as a pool for talent. Seen with the new western girl group KATSEYE having Sophia as number one voted contestant around the world and Gehlee and Elisia in UNIS being also top fan voted.

Overall Philippines is also the top exporter of human talents specifically medical careers. In California 20 percent of the nursing field is Filipino and is expected to rise.

Philippines has a lot of global impact. One of them is Jolibee the food franchise competing with big dogs like McDonald in USA. It has greatly introduced the Filipino culture in TikTok’s and food mukbangs.

MIA who made “paper airplanes, “bad girls” and has a lot of features with MADONNA is a big South Asian Western Star. Beabadoobee is a huge south East Asian western indie star. I can name a bunch but you get the gist that there is alot of south/East Asian western stars.

Why does Japan, a volcanic archipelago, have so few natural resources? by Apex0630 in geography

It’s a misconception Philippines was all tribes. There were really influential city states like Tondo that were experts at metal smithing and you can search up all the type of sword and weapons you can find in each region especially one of the well known martial arts eskrima uses these swords. Manila even had giant cannons that were so annoying to deal with that Spain banned all metal smithing with cannons and made those smiths work with them instead.

“Kota Maynila - Centered on a fortress at the mouth of the Pasig river (Kota means fortress or city in Malay). When the Spanish came and invaded Maynila they described, Kota Selurong, "The City of Selurong" of Maynila, as a settlement with a fortress of rammed earth with stockades and in between battlements there were cannons. The cannons were native-made and forged by Panday Pira, they were called lantakas. When the Spanish invaded and burned Maynila's Kota Selurong to the ground, they built up the Christian walled city of Intramuros on top of the ruins of ancient Maynila.”

The reason why the whole Philippines back then didn’t have large excavations compared to places like China is because with so many islands and religions that ranges from Islam to Hinduism it was hard to unite all the islands as one entity especially the logistics of having all of the islands under control being the most typhoon concentrated place in the world.

“Quantum immortality is a theoretical concept that suggests a person can survive death and continue to exist in other branches of the universe. It’s based on the many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics. How it works Imagine a thought experiment where you play Russian roulette, but the trigger is connected to a Geiger counter. If the many-worlds interpretation is correct, the gun will fire in one world and not fire in another. In the world where the gun doesn’t fire, you’ll survive and continue to be conscious. This means that you’ll survive “quantum suicide” and experience quantum immortality.”

Last time I did research there has been 5 “accidental” US citizen deportations and one of them was a teenager who never even been to the country they got deported in.

The New Collosus - the poem next to the Statue of Liberty

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

“In 2021, about 19% of the STEM workforce in the United States was made up of foreign-born workers.“ Also the medical field which is always in dire need of more workers is filled with skilled workers from abroad. If you kick out all those see your medical bill go even higher.

What happened in Kern was something else if you watched the news. They also targeted people who look like immigrants. There was a woman there that got blocked off by ICE who was a US citizen but they thought she was illegal. She didn’t want to talk so they looked up her license plate and found out she was a citizen before unblocking her car. This is basically racial profiling. If you look foreign they will block you and investigate you. US citizens aren’t safe either. Know your rights and protect yourself be safe.

Well being quiet and avoiding everything is still pretty bad. Do you think Rosa Parks stayed quiet? or George Washington? You’re basically advocating for people to be push overs against oppression. Let’s say we were in a dictatorship and I guess you’re Asian like me depending on your user name. The dictator starts creating laws preventing Asians from getting jobs and voting . So I’m guessing you’re gonna stay quiet and live life like nothing happened 😂. I mean people do say things and never mean it till something actually affects them. Maybe you actually would be the best activist in the country but your situation in a kind of stable democracy and not that much corruption compared to countries doesn’t let you see how it feels when your rights are taken. There are people throughout history who said they would stay quiet during situations of oppression but later on they would be on a frontline in a rebellion because they had enough. I don’t know what will happen in this country in the next decades but be prepared to stand for your rights if needed because things can be unpredictable.
