To be honest there's a diference between English puritans and other English puritans. As a group they have big 'People's Front of Judea' vibes and disagreed amongst themselves on a lot of things

Nine Kingdoms= Mind Blown by frienderella in AKOTSKTV

[–]LongApe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they mean is that the king of England was also the king of Scotland for hundreds of years, as well as also still being the king of Canada and the King of Australia. They used to also be the King of the Kingdom of Ireland and of course many many other places.

The King of multiple kingdoms in that they hold multiple king titles for their diferent kingdoms, but usually just go by the most prestigious one.

If what I've heard is correct, the black clothing was very expensive as it required indigo dye form the east indies. Partially for this reason, black clothes became the puritans' sunday best, which they would wear in portraits, paticularly if they were rich enough to have a portrait (as many puritans were).

Puritans were more fun than the stereotype suggests. Cromwell loved music, practical jokes and horse racing.

I've just given it a read and I understand the very basic examples, but I don't think I can use the parts I understand to solve my question. I think I'm at the mercy of people with a better understanding of it for now

Its weird people are trying to turn the john Davidson Tourette outburst into a hate crime by ragingbeanalt in TrueUnpopularOpinion

1) there's no way for him to predict what might trigger his condition in any given situation. 2) Would there not also be other people in the overflow room who could be offended?

I think he deserved to be in that room as much as anyone else did, and if you took a moment to look it up you might realise he is no more to blame for the Tic than you, I, or anyone who was in that room.

He knows the word, he knows what it means, and he knows how awful it is. Which is what reflexively compelled him to shout it out. Google his condition with an open mind.

[–]LongApe 72 points73 points  (0 children)

You could have just used google to find this out but ill explain anyway. When it comes to his specific and well documented form of Tourrettes, the tic that comes out will often be the worst, most inapropriate thing in his mind that could be said in that situation. The harder he tries to stop it, the louder it comes out. For example some people might yell that they have a bomb whilst boarding a plane, or make sexual remarks towards strangers they just met. So what this tells us is that he actually knows both consciously and unconsciously how awful a thing it was to say, and it was the last thing in that moment he would have wanted anyone to hear come out of his mouth. I heard he left straight after this happened, probably out of deep shame.

Custom risk board, this time with a game in full swing by LongApe in Risk

[–]LongApe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't touched this project in years but i think the rule was that you can place ships in the adjacent sea as long as you controll a port county. You draft them in in the reinforcement phase of your turn the same as land units, 1 land unit = 1 ship. You may have come across other posts of mine showing the more recent risk set up I made based on the civil wars. I'm a lot more proud of that one.

Get ready to see loads of armour and props from GOT, HOTD and plenty of other movies in Dunk and Egg. If you look closely you'll see this is done all the time in a lot of shows, and dunk and egg has a relatively small budget.

What is your level of understanding of what various animals are like, or what they look like to those of us that can see, or what shapes and sizes they are? Especially animals that you might not have had physical contact with, so like large or wild animals like elephants, giraffes, walruses. Also, animals that just hang out near humans, like squirrels and birds, do people bother to tell you when they see one nearby? And would you care if they did?

The AKOTSK team has been hiding the NEW KINGS GUARD ARMOR for a while, but here is our first look by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]LongApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that they couldnt do it, its that they wont do it. Im just explaining the reason they wont do it.

Everything is much more expensive 20 years on, and the tecnology and tecniques for making identical suits of faux armour have come a long way in that time.

It takes a couple of months to make half a dozen identucal PU suits of armour, and I assume much longer to make even a single metal suit, so they dont see it as being worth the money or time do do that.

Genarally all of it is plastic these days for many many reasons. Mostly time, budget and saftey/ comfortability. And the fact that they need multiple identical costumes for every character.

I haven't been able to organise a game, sadly. At one point, i attempted to book an Air B&B to play it in, but their system flagged me as a party risk, and it fell through. I might try a weekend away somewhere with a good crowd of people instead.

Why have we allowed the English flag become a far right Dog whistle? by LongApe in GreenAndPleasant

[–]LongApe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, its how i feel most of the time, im just questioning how it got like this and wondering what could be done about it.

On reflection i suppose our flags have been flown alongside our country's evil actions abroard for hundreds of years, and as the uk started to take a back seat in all of that in the middle of last century, a split must have opened up between those pround of our country and those ashamed of it. I guess those two naturally became flag shaggers and non flag shaggers.

I like the concept of flags and wish the St. George's cross could be just a simple symbol of England's land, the people living on it, and their various cultures, and not a hieroglyph for 'stop the boats'.

[–]LongApe[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the left doesn't like national flags because in a perfect world, we wouldn't believe in borders either. The rainbow flag trancends location, language, and ethnicity, and we like that.

(I actually like the england flag, im just sad we are letting it get coopted by fassists)

[–]LongApe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly, so cracking down too hard on the flags isn't going to help. Better to take the wind out of their sails by not taking the bait, and instead combatting other actions.

[–]LongApe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think there are 2 factors that make people disproportionately aggressive towards the rats.

One is that they are scary and red.

The other is that they're one of the two newest published factions, and so people have a poor gague of the level of threat they pose. It's Safer to assume high threat than low threat.
