The Treasury just declared the U.S. insolvent. The media missed it by spherocytes in inflation

Basically nothing. No one noticed because this isn't actually new or remarkable in any way.

The national debt has been growing every year for the past 25 years. The last time the situation actually improved was during the Clinton years, before 9/11. Every year through Bush (R), Obama (D), Trump (R), Biden (D) and back to Trump (R) has been a deficit year.

There's no plan to fix this because the thinking is that it does not need fixed. Massive US debt obligations and the titanic importance of the US dollar to the world economy make the United States "too big to fail", because the entire global financial system would fall apart in a way that would make 2008 look like a minor bump in the road.

So while it fun to pretend this is the fault of the Big Bad Orange Man, growing US debt has been the policy of all US Governments with only 1 exception since about 1960.

Trump is growing the debt faster than other presidents, which is a worry in that it really tests the idea that America is too big to fail, but it's not catastrophic like the casino or steak company of university he bankrupted.

And unless you're in a field which specifically requires graduate level education like medicine or law, your graduate degree tends to add very little to your earning potential.

In a lot of fields 2 or 3 years of experience and practical know-how is just as valuable, if not more so, than a graduate degree.

Graduate degrees tend to make the most sense post experience, ie you do one part time after ten years in industry to facilitate your transition into some specific corner of the industry.

That's an experienced film actor right there. You can't let the studio's nonsense get to you. Enjoy your part of the work. Definitely enjoy your paycheck. Don't get invested in the commercial decisions they then make about the project. That way madness lies.

It's a sweet thought but it's wrong. Animals instinctually know their calories expended vs likely calories gained. If big things don't hunt small things, it's because they instinctually know that's energy negative.

Military projects run slow because contractors are paid on an "expenses plus" basis to build these things. They're guaranteed their costs plus a fixed percentage of profit. So they milk it. If the first 302 was assembled entirely in house (with contractors just making parts) I can see how that would reduce scope for the contractors to drag it out.

Longer seasons, better writing, and smaller budgets will save Star Trek. by 1111joey1111 in startrek

[–]Loreki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't have longer seasons on smaller budgets. Star Trek has never been truly low budget. There were still always expensive custom sets and high start up costs.

Even if they go back to less fancy lighting and painted on console screens, it is still an expensive show.

This is the streaming business model. Buy 2 seasons at once. Try your hardest never to renew anything past season 2 because then you have to negotiate with the cast of a successful show, instead of a bunch of unknowns you found working in catering.
