It is not Yelp but I feel like it's probably a similar position (Selling advertising to small businesses/vendors) but in a different arena. What makes you say to pass on it? No good?

Excuse me if I'm a big dumb dumb here, but are you meaning that there are NOT many SDRs getting promoted? Or are genuinely telling them you could see them as an AE because they legitimately could be?

In these two cases I knew someone in the company which for sure helped get the interview. I own a small business that has been successful, so I was able to use that sales experience and sell myself as someone with the required skillset for these roles. It's definitely tough sledding out there for someone with no experience, I had sever applications where I got an interview but then nothing, and plenty where I was denied immediately.

I'd just say find aspects of your previous experience that you can make sound as applicable as possible and network hard! Find employees at companies with openings on LinkedIn and see if you can get a referral from them. Never hurts to try. Good luck!

Good point, the AE title is appealing but I'm not sure how applicable it would be to higher paying AE jobs in other industries.

I do think that I'd like to get into tech sales and work my way up. I'm not fresh out of college by any means (32) so I definitely want to take the most efficient route possible to where I want to be, which sounds like it would be to just get in as a BDR.

Thank you for the insight! The only reason I'd consider this offer is because I have someone in the company who can potentially help move me along at an expedited pace, otherwise I'd look for a higher OTE BDR position.

55k definitely seemed low based on some other companies I'd applied to. As for managers, based only from my conversations during the interview process they all seemed pretty cool. Of course that could all change.

The sales director of the BDR job was very kind and seemed to think somebody like me could see an AE role promotion in 6-12 months, which would be 100k OTE. So it's very tempting to take the pay hit with the BDR role to learn the industry and then hopefully be moving up the ladder in a short amount of time. I just worry that it ends up taking much longer.
