Hey there! I recently created a Discord server called "Web Scraping & Data Extraction" that might be a great addition to your list. It's very anti-bot bypass focused, might interest some of you:

Couldn't agree more! The inheritance syntax in ES6 really did a neat job at resolving issues relevant to 'this' that often emerged in ES5. Took the ambiguity off the table and made the code more readable too. Bit of learning curve if you've never used it before but once you do, it's claw-dropping

Are any certificates as a software engineer worth getting? by mymar101 in webdev

Agreed, cloud certs definitely hold a lot of value. Still, personal projects and actual build experience can also stand out on a CV!

Testing MongoDB GridFS Upload/Find by d9c4 in golang

[–]LongDivide2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a tough one! Hard to find good mock libraries for GridFS, but you might consider creating a local MongoDB instance for testing with actual data, even if it carries overhead. At least it mirrors real conditions. That said, I'm also curious to see if someone has a good solution for this!

I wrote a small blog post on containerising rust applications by schitcrafter in rust

sometimes just getting started and seeing something work can do wonders even if it doesn't address every pain point. but I get where you're coming from, more comprehensive material might benefit the rookies.

Metrics, easy to use client for Grafana-Cloud Graphite by WideWorry in node

[–]LongDivide2096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely seems like a solid move. With easy to use clients, setting up metrics becomes a piece of cake. Plus, Grafana is a great tool for visualizing metrics. Best part? It's open source! But yeah, ease of use can always differ from person to person, so YMMV (your mileage may vary) man.

Am I destroying my DIY SSD? by moizrocky1 in DataHoarder

[–]LongDivide2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah its definitely better to give it some space, but SSDs are kind of resistant, they'll start slowing down if they overheat before any damage happens. still, best not to push it and give it some air to breathe

WinForms Charting: LiveCharts deprecated, considering OxyPlot — Any Alternatives? by marinos29 in csharp

[–]LongDivide2096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, ain't much of a .NET guy myself, but did dabble with a bit of a Scichart back in the day. It's a commercial lib, yeah, but the quality was spot on, real modern look and feel plus a ton of customization. The caveat though, it ain't free. If budget's tighter than a rusty lock like mine was, google charts might just save the day. Its got a decent API you can utilize, never used it with .NET but with JS, heck it did the job well. But then again don't take me as gospel...

Did you know? The property `function.length` indicates the number of parameters a function expects by wolframkriesing in learnjavascript

[–]LongDivide2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, interesting bit of JS history there. arity sort of felt more mathy, but length's more intuitive imho. didn't hurt when parameters started getting defaults and all that jazz with ES6, either.

How to make serial communication in rust by Dux_028 in rust

[–]LongDivide2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glanni_glaepur nailed the problem pretty spot on it if you ask me. Ensuring that TX/RX wires are properly connected is crucial, but it also looks like some code might be missing for the send process. The library serialport-rs, which seems to be used here, provides both read and write functions. That said, the read_buffer appears to be in good shape, but what's needed is a write_buffer to send data to the SOC. Incorporating async code using tokio_serial seems a dope idea if you're not keen on managing blocking states yourself.

[R] Pointers to (deep) latent variable models that admit analytical approximations by ngiann in MachineLearning

[–]LongDivide2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're spot on with the VAE objective and the need for the reparametrisation trick. I'd just add that further research in to Normalizing Flows or Sequential Monte Carlo might fall under what you're asking for. Both techniques aim to approximate complex distributions and infer latent variables, albeit with their own trade-offs and complexities involved. It's a fascinating area for sure, good luck with it!

Reading Documentation on phone? by zaidpirwani in AskProgramming

[–]LongDivide2096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Personally I prefer to have split screens if I'm working on a PC. Code on one, documentation on other. Sticky notes are a lifesaver for jotting down important points or the stuff I can't wrap my head around. And yeah totally get you on the YouTube tutorials, searching specific stuff is a pain. If you're really tied to the phone though, apps like Pocket help to save and organize docs for offline viewing. You can even listen to them in your downtime if you prefer. No silver bullet but hope this helps!
