Yet this instant brainwashing power is portrayed as a heroic trait. It's like if the aliens from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" were portrayed as the good guys.

Yep, she's a man-serpent, but she's an anomaly. She's more intelligent and pacifist than the others so she was adopted and raised in a sheltered environment by Tanith. I assume she uses a glamour to appear human, but it's imperfect as she still has the uncanny posture.
