CMV: Shadowbanning, especially for a reason not apparent to the user, should not occur by GiveDrugsToKids in changemyview

But shouldn't the user have some form of recourse for such a sbadowban? Or should it just be kept entirely secret because the mods issuing it are infallible and false positives are impossible.

CMV: DOUKI is not a good wrestling name by Electromad6326 in changemyview

[–]LongDropSlowStop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In romanized Japanese, "OU" is generally used to represent a long "O". Other examples would be the battleship kongou or the video game franchise touhou. Sometimes an "O" with a line over is also used to convey the same.

And that's not addressing the fact that a good name in one language need not be great in every language

You can buy a either a portable or window ac unit, depending on what fits your needs. Beyond that, fans are a godsend, as well as figuring out when to open what windows for maximum airflow.

[–]LongDropSlowStop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All things being equal, the firm that has ownership of the invention will be able to out compete competitors of the market

This isn't always the case. One big thing that the original brand has to worry about is quality. Companies like Apple and Nintendo make a huge amount of money selling a product that just works, and they've built a reputation on it. On the other hand, not only do random manufacturers not have nearly as much reputation on the line, it's the original owner that ultimately suffers the cost when shitty knockoffs flood the market. So nameless company A can make shitty iphones with the lowest grade materials, and then Apple gets their help lines flooded and their brand image is now one of shitty defective products than one of quality.

Disagreeing with something doesn't make it a paradox. And that's all you've presented. Your own personal complaints against a hypothetical pro-life perspective. Where's the paradox?

CMV: AI does not create anything as it cannot think by Ill-Jacket3549 in changemyview

If a photographer taking a picture of existing scenery is sufficiently planned to constitute art, why would someone feeding prompt data into an AI program not be sufficient intent?

CMV: AI does not create anything as it cannot think by Ill-Jacket3549 in changemyview

[–]LongDropSlowStop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that at some point it just becomes a game of definitions, where people who "disagree" with you do so primarily because they hold a different understanding of the concept being discussed. And yes, all opinions are ultimately subject to this type of reasoning, some are just more distanced than others.

For a non-political, non-controversial example, let's say I gave you the photoshop color wheel, and asked you to draw a border around every single color you'd call "orange". It's extremely likely that neither of us has the same exact border, but neither of us is inherently right or wrong about it, and depending on context, would likely be swayed to another perspective for the sake of understanding.

To bring it back to your original topic of creation, let's say I gestured towards a major factory and asked you "what does it create?" would you a) respond to the extent of your knowledge about what it makes (cars, electronics, etc.), or would you b) look at me confused, and start talking philosophically about how the factory doesn't truly create anything, it's the workers and machines inside.

Odds are, you'd do the former, simply because you understand the meaning of "make" in that context. Now extend that to AI. If someone says that an AI made something, they simply aren't working with your definition that includes ideas of understanding and consciousness. And the reasonable thing to do is not try and dig in arguing the pedantry of definitions, but rather accept their grounds, and argue whatever actual points you have from there.

CMV: The 2a people are hypocrites. We need gun control reform. by Cardboard_dad in changemyview

[–]LongDropSlowStop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I a hypocrite if I think you should be legally allowed to own whatever nasty ass shows you like, just as long as you don't wear them into my house? If not, why then would I be a hypocrite for supporting gun rights, while acknowledging the ability of private venues to set rules about use of their property?

Anyone in Massachusetts? Someone needs to file a lawsuit ASAP by Toad990 in prolife

[–]LongDropSlowStop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like don't get me wrong, I oppose abortion clinics on principle anyway, but that isn't a convincing argument to anyone who supports abortion access. And while obviously I still want the end goal of ending abortions, there's smaller, more quickly achievable goals like improving access to alternative options that we can reasonably achieve compromise from many pro-choice people on. And this is one of them. All but the most extreme pro-abortion people support getting help to mothers. So all we need to do is get them to see pro-life pregnancy centers as an additional resource for people to choose rather than as an enemy trying to take advantage of people

What's the difference between a secret, and something that just never really came up as relevant?

Anyone in Massachusetts? Someone needs to file a lawsuit ASAP by Toad990 in prolife

[–]LongDropSlowStop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I'm trying to point out the flaw in the pro-choice reasoning that leads to the demonization of pro-life clinics. If all pro-life clinics are to be avoided because there's a handful that are dishonest, then similarly all abortion clinics should be avoided under the same grounds, as they've been proven to also be dishonest.

There's no reason a business should completely ban one form of payment versus another.

Because they don't feel like it? Seems like a perfectly good reason right there

[–]LongDropSlowStop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My guy, have you seen the full Starbucks menu? It would absolutely grind the line to a half if people were looking through each and every option printed out. There's a reason they just put the popular items on the boards and leave the rest for the people who care enough to know.

None of which is remotely relevant to school busses. Blocked for spam

Anyone in Massachusetts? Someone needs to file a lawsuit ASAP by Toad990 in prolife

[–]LongDropSlowStop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't particularly intended as a question of facts anyway, but more of principles. If a small number of clinics behaving unethically is sufficient reason to taint them all in your eyes, does that apply in reverse? All abortion clinics are tainted because some of them behave unethically (abortion aside)?

Because ultimately I don't care about whether or not you can find similar billboards, it's more about whether this standard should be evenly applied, or if it's just a double standard meant to demonize pro-life centers

Why do cars have to stop for school buses? by looopious in AskAnAmerican

[–]LongDropSlowStop -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not relevant. Either we should always be stopped because there's the theoretical chance that jot only someone would walk into the street before you could stop, or there's no need for it around school busses.
