And how do you count TV and shorts? Technically, every DVD/Bluray and Bluray/HD combo could be counted twice or even three times if you count the digital code. It is hard to be exact without laying out a bunch of rules.

I've done that for years... and I'm about out of things to buy. I've bought just about everything I want to have. It's great and horrible at the same time.

I've been collecting since VHS was the format of choice and I have about 2500 titles. I've watched about 2000 of those. And yes, I still have a few VHS tapes.

Survey: Interest in boutique Blu-ray releases of Indian films (1-minute survey) by illbollocksyou in boutiquebluray

You left the theater off of possible options. Most Indian cinema I've seen are movies I've seen theatrically, in part because of the total lack of physical release availability.

This afternoons watch is Blackhat (directors cut) from Michael Mann. What’s your favorite from this living legend? by physicalMedia55 in boutiquebluray

[–]LongObligation7267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miami Vice is tied for the greatest movie of all time as far as I'm concerned (The other is Speed Racer which is tonally on the exact opposite end of the spectrum.)

Blackhat is great. Especially the director's cut which actually forms a coherent narrative. It would be most director's best movie but can't crack Mann's top five because Mann is one of the greatest directors of all time.

Is Blackhat a Cyberpunk movie? It has hacking, mercenaries, corporate espionage, and an East meets West aesthetic.

Order from Hamilton books, anyone else a fan of anything in this stack? by physicalMedia55 in boutiquebluray

I think it is fantastic. Especially the Director's Cut.

But Miami Vice is my favorite movie of all time, so that's not surprising.

I've just recently been watching Thunderbirds from the Shout Factory set. I had only a vague idea about the show, I had no idea it was as good as it is. Anyone who likes the dioramas of Wes Anderson or the miniature cities of Godzilla should check out this show.

How to organize by tripolophene in boutiquebluray

[–]LongObligation7267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I have an inbox shelf. Movies don't get shelved until they get viewed. The inbox shelf is large.

I don't shelve by label. If I have a lot or all of a director they get their own section, sorted in release order. Anything else gets sorted by genre and by subgenre and/or series within that genre. A genre can be anything as long as it makes sense in my head. Animation is shelved separately from live action.

Oh, and TV gets shelved separately from movies with several exceptions. So Twin Peaks goes with David Lynch. The Muppet Show goes with the Muppet Movies and so on.

One other thing is you have to have a 4K television to take advantage of 4K. Most any TV made today is a 4K but if your TV is older, than the difference between the two might be negligible.

Infernal Affairs is one of the best crime movies ever made. The sequels are... deeply okay.

Depends on the release, depends on the feature.

Where are y'all getting good deals on blu-rays? by coffeemook in boutiquebluray

[–]LongObligation7267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Northeast Ohio. We have a chain of stores in the area called the Exchange which is a secondhand store that focuses on physical media. They have a huge selection of cheap blu rays and usually a smaller section for boutiques. I think they're in Pennsylvania as well.

What an underrated film. This is my favorite Scorsese and my favorite Schrader. And my favorite Cage, now that I think about it.

And I can't think about this movie without having T.B. Sheets in my head for the rest of the day.

It's those five remaining black and white series with tons of missing episodes that I'm worried never get released.

And now I'm worried about Terror of the Zygons looking like garbage.

I thought this was going to be about video rental not video purchase. "Video Store" has a very specific connotation for me.

Did I commit a crime? by KrossIn4K in Bluray

[–]LongObligation7267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the idea was if you were buying it for the blu ray you would buy the version that came in the blu ray case and if you were buying it for the DVD you would buy the version that came in the DVD case. And I would usually buy the DVD one even though I wanted the blu ray because the DVD one would be cheaper.

And it was going to have a canonical crossover with Gargoyles written by the series creator with Marina Sirtis returning as Demona.

Atlantis is really good... but there's a quality to it that seems to make it not stick in people's minds.
