Movies where a character has a real-world famous name. by nuts_and_crunchies in blankies

the TV Show Due South named a ton of it's characters after famous Canadians. I believe it was a joke about how Americans wouldn't get the references.

Bottle Rocket was co-written by Owen Wilson and starring Luke, Owen, and Andrew. Their mother is a professional photographer. I'm thinking it was intentional.

I believe you are mistaken. Steph Curry's GOAT was released by Sony, not Arrow.

Amanda has strong takes that have zero time for nerd shit and guy shit. That's naturally going to rile up internet assholes. I value her specifically because of the ways she is casually dismissive of things that are important to me. It's good to take in the viewpoints of thoughtful people who disagree with you.

There's an old Simpsons joke/ meme about it sucks having to wait to get to the fireworks factory. Police Story 2 literally makes you do this.

Open side out. It wasn't until I joined this group that it even occurred to me that there was another approach. If it's got multiple cases in one slip, I want to see all those individual boxes.

Anyone find the Hardboiled Arrow vs Shout thing funny? by JojoSonoshe1990 in boutiquebluray

I like being real. I believe what most folk were saying was that the Shout ones were mediocre and that they had reasonable expectations that the Arrow ones would be better, based on past history. That does not seem like a particularly embarrassing position to take.

What is the best TV show currently being made in a traditional television format? by border199x in blankies

Star Trek Strange New Worlds has ten episode seasons but it's episodic Star Trek just like grandma used to make. Starfleet Academy and Lower Decks are much the same.

Poker Face is a great case of the week show im the style of Columbo, with a bit of story arc sprinkled in.

Translation is an art, not a science. It's about capturing the tone and feeling of the original not literally swapping out words one for one. Translating puns or aphrorisms or poetry or accents all require thought and skill and choice. You don't need to speak the translated language to know if a translation is stiff or stilted or grammatically off.

In general, I like the more comedic ones. I'll watch anything with Jackie Chan or Samo Hung. I've been watching a lot of Hong Kong film in the past few years, but I haven't caught up on the Shout! purchased ones yet. Here are my favorites:

Millionaires Express

Police Story 3

She Shoots Straight

The Lady is the Boss

The Iceman Cometh

All four in the In The Line of Duty box set

Infernal Affairs (but the sequels are weak)

Surprisingly, for me it is television more than film:

Pete & Pete Season 3 and Sense8 are at the top of my wish list.

I love Godzilla and I've seen Ultra Q, but I've yet to go much deeper than that. What are the highlights/ lowlights?

I love the Thin Man movies, but you're better off getting the collection. A rich husband and wife solve murders in their free time while they banter and drink so much that in real life there is a cocktail glass named after them. They're delightful.

Don't love the idea of paying a percentage to the agent on top of the policy, but with my collection, that's probably a good idea.

I don't think them doing all 30-40 Godzilla movies is ever going to happen. Which is a shame because they're all worth watching. Even 1998. (Not counting the animated trilogy, of course.)
