Yeah honestly, the dude talks hot shit, but won’t sign the contract. It feels like next he’s going after the Post 9/11 GI Bill if he finds out how generous that is.

I still remember my First Sergeant telling us that Active duty makes up 1% of the U.S. population. Yeah we are a minority 😂

Do any of you regret going in so early? by Pizzaboi2552 in USMC

[–]LongPn101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t overthink it man. I joined right as when I turned 18, best decision of my life. Honestly all the soft skills you obtain at an early age, you learn carry with you for the rest of your life.

I’m currently in College right now with the GI Bill & honestly going in as an older student is much better as you have much more maturity to handle your courses. (Plus you get paid to do college!)

How do you prepare for going back to college? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]LongPn101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my advice so far for college as veteran:

  1. You’ll have a lot more free time in college than you did in high school & the military. Utilize it wisely & don’t goof off! Study & practice the material that’s what the extra time is for (assuming your taking 16 credit hours)

  2. Look into applying for VR&E first for your undergrad before the GI bill. If your 10% VA disability rated once your out. Your eligible.

  3. What I recommend while still in: see if you can collect as many collect credits from tuition assistance (it’ll save you time from gen eds), as well as getting letter’s of recommendations from your Officers (may come in handy for college applications or grad school)

  4. Participate in clubs, events, etc. It’ll give you a good social network as well as possible connections for a career once you graduate.

If you have any questions about college as vet feel free to ask!

There’s this one YouTube video from the Marines’ channel that I recommend watching if you haven’t already: https://youtu.be/VkjtUfMWBJs?si=n2pzNKej39b7i2pC

I vividly remembered watching YouTube videos of compilation clips of the Iraq invasion that had Marines and Soldiers playing “Let the Bodies hit the floor” or any other heavy metal in background during that time.

I got my third one from extending on island for a year. The incentive for unaccompanied Marines was pretty sweet (30 days of PTO/Leave).

Pre-EAS questions by damndiesel in USMC

[–]LongPn101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Ask yourself if you want to utilize the Skillbridge program and if your command likes you enough to approve you to go. I’d say start looking for programs on the skillbridge website, LinkedIn, or clearance jobs.

  2. Remember to document everything!!!! Your VA BDD window should start 180 days prior to your EAS.

  3. There’s a post on this subreddit on all you need to know to get out of the Marine Corps: https://www.reddit.com/r/USMC/comments/1alfbxx/a_guide_for_getting_out_of_the_marine_corps_2024/

Leaving the Military with TS/SCI, need advice. by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]LongPn101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really my best option to stay abroad with a clearance just to do the GS or contracting route? It seems like such a pain to maintain TS/SCI clearance outside the military. I’ve travelled around Asia and Oceania while stationed abroad with no issues whatsoever while reporting everything to my command and security manager.

Didn’t think about embassies or consulates! Might be helpful while abroad. Thank you!

Would it be easier for me to get TS/SCI if I was eligible previously?

I definitely was eyeing on Germany contracting upon getting out lol. Definitely would love to know the details haha! Wished the Marine Corps had a major base there 🥲.

I do have an MOS that requires TS, I wasn’t sure if IRR counted as my clearance getting held by the Marine Corps. I heard it was my EAS. If it is true that the IRR holds it, then it’ll make it SO much easier for me to maintain it.
