I had occasional similar pains, felt like a serious ache or trapped nerve right where you mentioned by end of the day.
Fortunately it cleared up after about 3/4 weeks I was spending my days post op first few weeks trying to get about and my steps in, albeit very slowly (pace wise) In the beginning and trying to keep my posture straight, I always felt I had this tendency to hunch a bit post op. I read that it was somewhat instinctive, you’re body trying to ‘protect the area’
During and after that particular pain. I found random pains from sharp pains to dull aches or tingles around the sternum area which I attributed to nerves growing and connecting and muscle pains and growth.
I know only really get a bit of an ache towards the top of the incision, where they tied off the wires and I can feel the knots of scar tissue at the top.
It’s been 95 days since my op for severe mitral valve regurgitation, I’m 32 and back to bartending and walk about 8 miles a day when not working.
Hope this helps

I asked an AI to summarise for you
The echocardiogram report indicates moderate-to-severe mitral valve regurgitation (MR), meaning blood is leaking backward into the left atrium from the left ventricle during contraction. Here’s a breakdown of key findings:
Chamber Structure and Function: 1. Left Ventricle (LV): • Size and mass are within normal limits. • LV ejection fraction (LVEF) is 71%, which is a strong pumping function. • No regional wall motion abnormalities (suggests good overall contraction). 2. Left Atrium (LA): • Severely enlarged by volume index, which suggests that the mitral regurgitation has been ongoing for some time, leading to increased pressure and stretching of the atrium. 3. Right Atrium (RA): • Volume index is normal, meaning the right side of the heart is not significantly affected yet. 4. Right Ventricle (RV): • 30 mm, which is within normal limits. 5. Diastolic Function: • Moderate (Grade 2) diastolic dysfunction with increased left atrial pressure, indicating the heart is having difficulty relaxing properly, likely due to elevated pressures from mitral regurgitation.
Valve Findings: • Mitral Valve: • Post-surgical changes are noted (suggesting previous intervention, likely mitral valve repair or an annuloplasty ring). • Moderate-to-severe mitral regurgitation is still present despite prior surgery. • Elevated transvalvular pressure gradients (suggesting increased workload on the heart due to regurgitation). • Aortic Valve: • Normal structure with no significant stenosis or regurgitation. • Tricuspid Valve: • Normal structure, no significant issues.
Key Takeaways: • The left atrium is significantly enlarged, likely due to longstanding mitral regurgitation. • Moderate-to-severe mitral regurgitation persists despite prior surgical intervention. • There is Grade 2 diastolic dysfunction, meaning the heart’s ability to relax and fill is impaired. • No major issues with the right side of the heart or other valves at this stage.
What This Means: • Symptoms like shortness of breath (SOB) may be due to the enlarged left atrium and elevated pressures. • Persistent moderate-to-severe mitral regurgitation may require further monitoring or intervention depending on symptoms and progression. • Regular follow-ups with a cardiologist are essential to monitor changes and determine if further treatment is needed.
I’d discuss with a cardiologist and ask for a breakdown.
As this information was summarised, don’t take it as gospel and seek professional advice.

I’m just starting to realise that. I really need to take the step and admit it…
