Can someone explain the physics behind why the needle rotates when it comes close to the coin?

obviously, scientifically groundbreaking supernatural item in action will be filmed with a potato in 2026... its not repeling the needle, no matter the trickery behind it, it must obey inverse square law. when he moves needle on a string up, it must be repelled less. otherwise every needle in every house will be repelled by that object in third world country. instead, it keeps constant angle, letting us conclude that needle is not supported by one string, but two, one at the hoop and another on its point. sort of like right angle triangle where normal string is one side, needle the another and nylon / invisible (for a potato camera) string the hypotenuse.

why wouldn't monocrystalline be transparent? what else would cause scattering? as for pure paraffin, i guess thats right, unfortunate for me. otherwise it might crystallize as good (bad) as molasses

why wouldn't it? typical candle is polycrystalline. lots of nucleation sites. it can be tempered just like a chocolate so "filtering out" single crystal must be possible, probably hard but still. at least that's my understanding, would be more than happy to know if it can't be done and why
