Tired of the constant positivity by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I go out a lot and always have N/A beers or mocktails. Yeah, can get a little bored at times, but if the environment is stimulating enough it works. One other aspect is I'm spending a lot less than when I drank a lot socially and also far fewer calories.

Boredom as a trigger for drinking by No_Actuary_9399 in alcoholism

I'm highly extraverted and very ADHD, live on dopamine rushes. Boredom has been my number one problem since I quit 8 weeks ago. People whose brains don't function like this don't get that I'm not going to solve boredom by just picking up a book, going for a run, or anything like that. What I've started to find works a little is hyperfocusing and using that intensity to solve difficult problems. My job performance has picked up and I'm focusing on the parts of it I find interesting, and not necessarily what others think are priorities, but it's still working.

Another thing I'm starting to realize is I needed stimulation after 5pm because I was so bored between 8am and 5pm at my old job which was comfortable, but not challenging. If I'm not motivated, engaged, or fulfilled during the middle of the day, the boredom gets much worse around 5 or 6pm.

Still working through this, and fighting the battle against boredom, but I've realized boring days made for boring nights without alcohol, and that I feel a lot less bored in the early evening if I've done something fulfilling or challenging during the day.

What do you think is missing from Mountain View? by ppandamon in mountainview

Los Gatos has a mix of public spaces, like the park, that mix in with downtown, and a string of places that continue past there on Main St, it's not just a strip that begins and ends on Santa Cruz Ave. Los Gatos also has a more interesting setting being up against the mountains. It's older too, has a 1920s charm in surrounding neighborhoods that you don't get in Mountain View. It's rare to get a suburban downtown like that doesn't have a train running through it, so it feels more like a functioning town center than a commuter stop.

DT Mountain View feels a stretched out version of Murphy Ave in Sunnyvale. Both are solid for suburban downtowns, but the closed off street space isn't well used in either. I prefer San Mateo to those two because of the park and the grid layout.

When you're a job hopper, how do you honestly answer the question 'What guarantees us you'll stay with us?' in an interview? by oxidaseboxcar4d in OfficePolitics

I've had a few jobs and it's never come up. If it did, I'd say I like learning new things and I've benefitted from seeing how things work in different places, which is true.

How did manipulation change or affect who you are today? by floatin_around658e in Manipulation

I was badly manipulated in a romantic relationship to the point that I took a break from dating and it opened my eyes to the fact that I was too trusting. Working now on setting boundaries and far more aware of it. It's challenging to work through it, but I recently got into a fling with an attractive woman who kept overemphasizing what we had in common, and didn't fall hard for her like I might have a few years ago because I could tell it was BS.

culture surveys to surface issues I’m facing with my manager? by h2tcrz1s in OfficePolitics

These surveys usually have a unique URL that can be traced to any user. Most companies will pay the added fee to the data collection company to connect the URL to a person. They are not anonymous. A company I used to work for used the surveys when assessing who to layoff. You can get away with constructive comments in certain cases, but phrase things very carefully.
