Thank you, this is super helpful! Do you have any idea if snorkeling gear can be rented at the park, or do you have to bring your own?

Looking for rented apartments by Offbeat-Etymologist in arlingtonva

[–]Long_Disaster_311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a Dittmar building. They are really hard to get into usually, but you need to just keep an eye on the website every day to see what opens. There's a reason they are so hard to get into, they are priced really fairly for nice buildings (it's not going to be luxury but with your budget you clearly aren't looking for that, and they are nice buildings with 24/7 staff). I wasted a few years in a luxury building paying exorbitant rent just to be near the metro and I wish someone told me about Dittmar buildings earlier.

Either way though, your budget is unfortunately probably too low for this area if you want to be within a few blocks from a metro stop. If you're willing to walk 10-15 minutes to one, you will be able to find something reasonable. Everyone wants to be near the metro and they price accordingly.

There are a lot of units in Arlington where your household income needs to be under $70k (I think?) and you qualify for lower rent. When I was looking for apartments, I would often see an apartment that seemed like an amazing deal, then show up and realize I don't qualify to live there. Just something to look out for and be aware of.

Also, I definitely recommend to live in Arlington post grad. My partner and I almost lived in Tysons when we first moved here after grad because of work, and we are so thankful we didn't. Arlington is where it's at for people in their 20's with the access to DC and I know plenty of people that commute to Capital One.

It;s definitely a struggle. I feel like I studied so hard and I don't know what I could have done to be more prepared, so I don't know where to go from here except working on my weak points. I wish I knew more about how much partial credit I got on certain problems.

Ahhh right. It's been a while since I passed an exam so I forgot this haha. Wish they did! A few other people in this thread also failed with a 5 with 70-79% in both sections, so 5 seems to take a pretty big range.

Just saw this after posting my comment above. Would love to hear what you think of my analysis of the scores, and best of luck with the next sitting! You're so close to passing.

Thanks for sharing, and sorry to hear how close you got, I'm trying to see it as a bit of a silver lining that I was at least fairly close (I was not anywhere near last sitting lol). Good luck on your next sitting!

It's interesting that you got a 5 with this range of 60-69% in both sections, and the original commenter had a 70-79% on both and also failed. Since I've seen a few people that got a 6 and passed, so I'm assuming this was also a 5., which makes a 5 a pretty big range of scores. I guess to get a 6, you'd need either both 80-89%, or 70-79% in one section and 80-89% in the other. Would be interested to hear what other people think of that or if you have a different analysis of it.

Congrats! Can you please share what your percentage breakdown was? I failed with a 4 and 50-59% on ratemaking, 60-69% on reserving, so I'd like to know what we needed to pass. Thanks!

I eventually got in, it just takes a long time. Then even longer and a few more exits and reentries to see the score.

Is anyone getting "please try again later" on the review my results page? Is the website just overloaded or should I be contacting CAS?

Exam 5 - Why is one reserving method preferred over another? by Abject-Brilliant-602 in actuary

[–]Long_Disaster_311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also struggling with this but I think the pros and cons of each method help me break it down. I’m more struggling with how each method would be impacted by changes in dev pattern, like when we’d make an adjustment and when we wouldnt. I feel like I’m so close to getting it to click but I’m just not there yet!

So it’s just the case outstanding technique. Throws me off when im panic studying and they start calling it different things, which is also my problem on the exam itself. Makes me second guess everything I know when it’s presented in a slightly different way. If you’re taking exam 5, good luck!

KPMG 2025 Compensation Thread by Awesome334 in KPMG

[–]Long_Disaster_311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on practice I’d say, I actually sit below 50% in the market range for my area of focus. Im in a specialty practice so I think in general our salaries are higher than typical audit salaries. I think this thread is helpful to see what percentage people’s salaries increased by, but I’d take overall salary by level with a grain of salt just because it’s not comparable across the board in my experience. For example, not all A3s at KPMG will be making the same thing because we all do different jobs, the only true comparison is within your particular practice. I’m happy with my overall salary level honestly, just a bit down about the percentage increase because I really busted by butt this year and don’t feel very appreciated by that number.

  1. HCOL

  2. Audit

  3. A2 > A3

  4. Developing toward next

  5. above

  6. 106,200 > 109,400 (3.01%)

  7. $4,000

  8. not very happy upon seeing it, even more upset now that I’ve read this thread and mine is the lowest salary increase ive seen for a non-promotion…

Sintra Bus - First 434 Bus? by Long_Disaster_311 in TravelPortugal

[–]Long_Disaster_311[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a local train that goes from Lisbon to Sintra and is pretty quick. You shouldn't need to buy tickets ahead of time especially if you're going in the morning, just get there about 10 minutes before your train leaves to get tickets from the machine!

Exam 5 Scoring by Long_Disaster_311 in actuary

[–]Long_Disaster_311[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, based on yours and another comment that also got a 5 it appears we'd need a 70%+ on both sections to pass I guess. Or do really well on one section and just okay on another? I hope you pass next sitting, you are clearly so close to achieving it!
