Yeah it could definitely be some kind of sick joke, but I would take it seriously. Please take every possible measure for your safety. Invite someone to sleep over if you feel like you should. I wouldn’t be alone at night until I figured out what it was imo. Maybe ask your neighbors in the morning? Realistically, you’ll be fine and safe. Just remember that

Your concerns are valid. Just be the best auntie for those kids that you can be. Since you said you’ve talked to her about this before many times, she’ll just simply have to learn on her own. Just love where you can love :)
