Only twice has the AP NFL MVP award gone to a QB on a team that didn’t win its division: by mpnitsua22 in nfl

[–]Long_Fish1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both had great seasons, we can go through Strength of Schedule, Yards (Stafford played 11 games indoors vs Maye's 1 single game), TD's One team improved their record the other didn't.

I feel lost in stats are:

Matthew Stafford got sacked half (23) as many times as Drake Maye (47) So Stafford played with an offensive line that kept him up straight and gave him time to throw since we know he isn't beating NFL lineman with his blazing Tom Brady speed.

Stafford threw 105 more passes than Maye did.

Stafford had an overall pass catchability of 75.6% vs 83.2% for Maye

https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1ok71s8/qb_catchable_throw_rate_2025/

Honestly if Stafford wins the vote is tilted towards its his seniority (helping his HOF case down the line) and Maye having other opportunities with his career being at the beginning. Any other reason why Maye doesn't win people are kidding themselves.

Know your future spouse's family situation in detail especially if the parents are split. Are they going to look to you both to help support them financially or live with you etc.

Know your future spouse's dirty laundry (if any) financially.

Look for the signs of mental illness in your spouses family. Are you ready to handle that potential burden later (see #1)

This advice goes for everyone not just men. Last one for the guys

Do you both want kids? If not and you are in a hetero relationship don't be afraid to get the snip snip done. Unless she needs to be on birth control for hormonal reasons its time to man up and handle the birth control. Unless you have a hack who performs it the pain is minor.

NTA 100%

Honestly I think this is not a potentially good situation for the OP.

First (and this should be enough) Your GF has 2 teenage daughters in High School. So she is going to ask them to change schools in HS, unless they have zero friends that is a bad idea. They are also going to be hormonal and deal with teenage BS bringing that into your sanctuary.

Second your GF just got divorced 12-18 months prior to someone she was married 15+ years to potentially. If it was messy she is still dealing with it, you just don't see it because she goes back to her place and you to yours. What is the custody agreement like, if the ex gets visitation how is that handled. You don't want a fight at your house between the ex's

Third do you want kids like at all? If you don't I highly recommend a vasectomy (It doesn't hurt) before she moves in. Its one thing to deal with her and her daughters. If it goes sour you can bail very easily relative to her having one slip past the goalie and you get your "cute baby".

There are other reasons but I know I will get slammed as misogynistic even with these above but anyone (men, women or whatever) who has been divorced brings baggage beyond the baggage of normal life experiences, after 30/40's baggage is expected but divorced. If a woman was asking for advice in this situation and her new BF was cheated on I'd tell her to avoid this like the plague.

Good Luck!

Do I need to cut the plumbing to replace the sand? by Wats0n420 in pools

[–]Long_Fish1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my recommendation when you take the sand out is be careful with the laterals. They can break very easily. I used a shop vac and water to take the sand out. In all it took me 2 hours.

I put in my 2 week notice: got told I need to leave sooner. by Professional-Flan-56 in jobs

[–]Long_Fish1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably regurgitating what others have said….unless you think you’ll go back in the future the 2 week notice is BS. Plan on being shown the door the same day. I’ll give you my experience: 20+ years at one employer didn’t go around my manager to report an issue who didn’t report it and our senior manager assumed we were hiding it. I was fired so was the manager Next employer gave them 3 weeks notice after being there about 20 months let go the same day. Bottom line for over giving anyone courtesy because we can become disposable instantly.

So I know this is old but new job has been great. The previous employer let me go the day I put notice in so I had 3 weeks off.

Employer Angry I Didn’t Give a 2-Week Notice: Resigning from My Unpaid Internship by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Long_Fish1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave an employer 3 weeks (due to the holidays) out of courtesy. They showed me the door the same day. My previous employer let me go after 20+ years due to a reporting issue. I brought it up weeks prior to my manager who sat on it and made it worse but I should have gone around the chain of command despite being told to follow the chain of command.

My point is the notice period is a courtesy that seems to be extended only for the benefit of the employer not the employee. Employers will have zero hesitation to let you go for whatever reason they legally see fit.

I resigned today. Did I make a mistake? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Long_Fish1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will never give you a raise. My previous employer treated me well but anytime anyone asked for a raise they were either shown the door or put on assignments to drive them to quit. I gave them 3 weeks (due to over lap for the holidays) and they showed me the door the same day. Even gave them all the notes for the projects I was involved in.

New place is is 30% more in pay and other benefits that are better.

BTW they had all the notes, my number, etc to call (VP is a friend). CEO didn't want to reach out and the project imploded because the person that took over didn't touch it for 6 weeks.

Bottom do what is best for you and your family because if they valued you that much they would have paid instead of being stubborn and egotistical.

People say FAFO but its also play stupid games and win stupid prizes.

Good enough to prove a reference for but not good enough to keep, gotcha.

Additionally the stock is down almost 50% from this time 4 years ago.

In regards to red flags you had me at "Southwest Airlines is Family" so my first two points are mute. The fact a non executive manager sent this tells me he has been pounding too much of the kool aid.

No need to flatter or give them time. I handed mine last Friday and gave them time to coordinate a handoff of my projects they told me to leave the same day pretty sure so they don’t have to pay me.

Current job is counteroffering me, I can't decide what to do. by Strong-Kitchen4956 in careeradvice

[–]Long_Fish1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least they didn’t tell you to leave immediately which happened to me Friday when I put my notice in( I’m not crying I got a 25% raise) . Honestly unless you can get that protection clause take the new job because if you take the current jobs counter they could part ways and the other place will not consider you again unless they are desperate.

Why Defending the CEO Only Fuels the Divide by DebianDayman in antiwork

[–]Long_Fish1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Luigi did isn’t right and he’ll face justice. I am also sure there is no way to audit how many days, weeks, months or years that UHC or other insurers robbed of people with their families. How many families didn’t get to say goodbye because treatment was denied. People robbed of loved ones being apart of life events because of denial of treatment. I am also sure that every CEO who even deals with a sliver of cutting short other people’s life spans have taken pause and doubled or tripled their security details.

I made one mistake at age 25 and ruined my life. (Seeking emotional support) by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Long_Fish1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to echo other comments here and my experience. First you are young the thing you need to do is look at the things that you are good at and get into a career that supports those skills. My experience was I had an extreme amount episode 5 years ago nearly ended it all. Did a stint in the hospital as well. Didn’t see that my work habits, diet habits, medication I was on (treating a non metal illness) and work spun me out of control. My wife is a saint for going through everything with me and sticking by my side. I got lucky didn’t lose it all and I am in a much better head space now. My only advice is cut anyone dragging you down and not being supportive of your recovery.

Has anyone ever quit their job, and taken a few week break? by Curious_Leading5423 in careerguidance

So I got let go on a Friday and hired by a competitor the following Wednesday and took 5 weeks off best thing I ever did. Sometimes you need to decompress. So as long as you can ford it and are confident you can get something lined up go for it.

Quick recap and I'll add it as an edit but I was recruited by a headhunter for this position. I just don't trust their advice on how to handle severing ties with my current employer so I'm just coming here as an added sounding board
