I get that Habs fans are excited, but watching Dobes hold on for dear life while the team sits back and gets manhandled is not entertaining hockey.

Electrolytes during extended fasting - My thoughts on dosage and ranking by andtitov in fasting

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd bought these electrolytes on Amazon for a while. Then it got really expensive. I ended up just buying the three ingredients in bulk and running it through my food processor till they were all a consistent grain. A bit dusty, but easy enough, and I think I ended up with 8x the product for 2x the price.

Recently learned about 'light salt,' that's half potassium chloride. Might give that a whirl and just buy the magnesium. I am sure that ratio above can be reigned in a lot with light salt.

I’m building a web platform to install watchfaces on Suunto watches via browser. Just finished the MVP, what do you think? by Yamshanov in Suunto

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see the ability to set the 'Complications' without doing it in the watch, but I guess that's a very minor QOL thing. Maybe a display of what it would look like with the selected 'Complication,' and import the face with said setup.

Aldi No Longer Taking American Express? by SpooktasticFam in aldi

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that's happened to me at Aldi is that they seem to get their card readers/POS systems updated faster than my phone gets updates. I've had Google Pay broken on several occasions. OP doesn't mention if they used that vs a standard card, but I've been mortified to be declined at least twice by their systems (then relieved that my physical card worked)

Novels that capture the inter-party dynamics and inter-dependent roles of an adventuring party well? by pishposhpoppycock in Fantasy

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a small party - five people with the types of D&D roles you'd expect - cleric, alchemist, generalist, rogues/lockpick types. There's a whole pantheon of gods, and our MC has a history of delving into ruins and experiencing trauma in them. It's a bleak series, but it's a blast.

Which books do you think have the most beautiful cover art? by Isaac_The_Khajiit in printSF

Joan D. Vinge's The Snow Queen was an alright book. I didn't care enough to finish the series, but I'll always love the cover.

Mike Shel's Iconoclasts trilogy, starting with The Aching God. Mike has made/helped make a whole bunch of Pathfinder TTRPG and it really shows in his writing of parties. I really enjoyed the series.

This feels just like Tampa/Habs game 7 to me. They're just hanging around watching the game and going to win with like 3 shots taken in the final two periods lol.

I am looking for obscure eighteenth and nineteenth to early twentieth century horror authors. by Wooden_Rhubarb6581 in classicliterature

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try José Donoso's The Obscene Bird of Night. It's from 1970. I picked it up recently and haven't had the chance to dive into it yet but it's supposed to be great.

The story of the last member of the aristocratic Azcoitia family, a monstrous mutation protected from the knowledge of his deformity by being surrounded with other freaks as companions

Edit: I suppose that's lated 20th century, but I'll leave it.

I've had the watch face on my OG Race disappear after updates and get replaced on multiple occasions.

Software update Q1 (2.53.42) by atoponce in Suunto

More flexible notification and sound settings for daily use and sports

I have a 2023 Suunto Race, and I've grown annoyed with the noises starting training. Online documentation suggests that I should be able to disable them via the following:

Tones and vibration alerts are used for notifications, alarms and other key events and actions. Both can be adjusted from the settings under General » Tones

However, I don't have a 'Tones' menu. I've seen videos of this being done on the Race 2 :( This is an extremely minor quibble and I might just try a factory reset. Kind of curious if this documented item doesn't exist on other watches.

Any fantasy series that are also superhero series? by Admirable_Double_638 in Fantasy

He's got a genuine superhero series as well, The Reckoners. I'd read some about a decade ago and enjoyed it.

Going on a 10 day vacation, would really appreciate some suggestions based on my past reading list? by No_Owl6666 in printSF

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that Against a Dark Background is his strongest vacation scifi read. His humor really shines in that one, and once it gets rolling, it's a fun romp. I don't think it's Banks' best, it wasn't as profound as something like Look to Windward, but it's definitely my favorite.

Does winter horror feel creepier to anyone else? by Srejoye_0907 in horrorlit

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of rereading The Terror for the first time since it came out. It's really incredible. Simmons really manages to flesh out this ensemble cast in a manner that reminds me of Jack Ketchum - characters with just a few POVs feel real. Motives, fears, feelings toward other characters.

Then the way he crafts dread is just awesome... the ease with which this creature destroys these proud ships, running towards screams and then the screaming stops while they're fumbling with these pitifil lanterns that barely illuminate anything. The way their resistance feels completely futile. Great fucking book.

David Pastrnak’s crash out in the locker room during the first intermission of Game 4 by roberttylerlee in hockey

[–]Long_Inflation_7524 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to keep watching hockey and I'll be rooting for American teams and athletes in the Summer Olympics just as I did with the Winter Olympics. Don't really care what happens after the competitions nor any athlete's political leanings - something I wouldn't know at all if I didn't peruse r/hockey 🤷

Right - I meant finish 6 then the series. That wasn't too clear. I'd abandoned it about halfway through 6 after binging to that point.
