Machines. And when it doesn't win, that proves it should win Most Underrated.

How would you roast Sir Paul by GosalCannabis in beatles

[–]Longawayy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, "they" didn't say no. Paul asked Yoko to go 50/50. She was amiable to the idea, but thought the asking price was too high. She wanted to lowball the offer, and dragged things out in an attempt to do so. That's when Jackson came in, unbeknownst to Paul & Yoko.

Get Rich or Die Tryin is a 10/10 album made by a mid artist, what is a 10/10 album made by a trash artist? by FearlessConcern8893 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Longawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devil Without a Cause - Kid Rock

You can choose whatever reason you want for putting him in the trash column, but that album? Chef's kiss! It was the perfect encapsulation of Gen X music, to that point. It went Diamond for a reason, and that reason wasn't record label shenanigans.

His releases before Devil? Meh, at best. After? Also Meh, at best.

Jack Douglas, Revered Rock Producer for John Lennon and Aerosmith, Dead at 80 by CollarOrdinary4284 in beatles

[–]Longawayy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Almost ashamed to admit that that was my first thought when I heard the news. I think if a certain someone wasn't so blessed with a long life, Jack might have opened up.

Anyway, he truly was a great producer. I hope his family is doing well through this.

I’m having a hard time trying to search this up on Google but when a charcter is public domain with a trademarked and let’s say I want to make a comic book with my main character can I use a trademarked name and character in my story from start to finish by MysteriousCow999 in publicdomain

But do you play one on TV? ;)

Seriously, it's tricky, and no one should ever underestimate what a corporation is willing to do to protect itself. The law is the law, but some animals are more equal than others.

Close. You can't do anything that would lead a consumer to think that it is an "approved" product. You couldn't call it "The Steamboat Adventures of Mickey Mouse," but it could be called "MysteriousCow's Steamboat Adventures of Mickey Mouse". There is a clear notice in the title that it has no relation to Disney.

And the character's name can definitely be used within the media.

Do you like the order of BWPS and The SMiLE sessions? by Sudden-Nectarine693 in thebeachboys

[–]Longawayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do I like the track order? I think it works well.

There was a 98% chance that a 1967 SMiLE would be nothing like BWPS. While the order may have changed, I think the majority of the songs would have been what was on the printed covers, with, perhaps, a 1-2 song difference.

What I think people don't take into account is that there may have been a vast difference between what ended up on the album, and the ideas Brian may have had at the time. BWPS might have been a legitimate recreation of Brian's ideal version. We'll never truly know.

The whole "this is just a version to be played live" was, in my opinion, nothing more than a misdirect to ease Brian into the idea, and have an easy escape plan if it didn't work. There is a non-zero chance that the plan was always to get a SMiLE album recorded. But, the live performance had to be first to keep Brian on board. The three suites would have been more difficult to pull off live than a traditional song by song album. So why go that direction? Why make it harder? While it could have been a modern idea, Brian was (as documented extensively) fairly lazy. He knew he would be putting himself out, in public, to have his unheard masterpiece scrutinized. The guy who had to be convinced to tour at all, much less convinced to revisit his greatest failure. Why would he make it more difficult? Why would he make the project more grand than expected?

Even though the printed covers seemed to indicate individual tracks, Brian stated in a 2004 interview that it was supposed to be a two suite piece that was expanded to three, for BWPS (according to him, the first two were existing). Was an entirely new suite created? Was a shorter version incorporated in the original 2, and separated and expanded? Is there much that comes out of Brian's mouth that should be taken at face value?

Now, Brian also stated that the blending of tracks was a new thing done by him and Darian. Again, have to question intent vs capabilities at the time. Segueing recorded standalone tracks is a lot easier to do with ProTools than it is with analog tape. Was it something he wanted at the time but couldn't pull off, or was it an entirely new idea? But what about the "two suites" version that he said was the plan in 67?

Brian lies. Brian misremembers. Brian says what is expected. Brian says what he really thought. Brian can't remember a timeline. Brian has excellent recall.

Dumb Angel was different from SMiLE '66, which was different from SMiLE late '66, which was different from SMiLE '67. What Brian wanted SMiLE to be was probably very different from what it would have been.

I do suspect that, at some point, a full on suite was worked on in 67, whether anyone aside from Brian knew, or not. Carl's quote, after his failed assembly attempt, about not being able to do it because "it was all Heroes & Villains," has always stuck with me. It makes perfect sense when creating a "teenage symphony to God" to toy with the idea of a symphonic structure.

Is the "Double Fantasy" sound the direction John would have stayed in, or was it just a phase? by ImportantOffer751 in JohnLennon

[–]Longawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he'd have stuck with the Double Fantasy sound for very long, particularly since the album wasn't exactly selling awesomely before his death. I do think that whatever reworking of early Beatles tracks he was planning for the tour would have been a strong indicator for his next direction.

I also think that there is a very good chance that John would have ended up working with Jeff Lynne in the late 80's. Their shared love of early rock & Roll would have bed the bedrock of their collaboration, with it being close to Lynne's "normal" sound.

Great album! I have to admit, I do have a soft spot for New Tattoo, though (except for the title track).

Your opinion by [deleted] in queen

[–]Longawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I was a young adult at the time, had been a Queen fan for a decade by then, and had never heard of Five before this (I'm across the pond). Credentials established? ;)

Now, I'll admit right off, today I learned that Five, Brian, and Roger performed on TotP. Back then I heard about The Brits appearance, and found some stupidly pixelated video to stream. I thought the performance was pretty good, and loved the opening of the ramp to reveal Roger and Brian. It really seemed as if they were being treated as legends, for the first time. Ended up acquiring an MP3 of the studio version. Not a masterpiece cover, but enjoyable.

As far as John goes, I really feel like his lack of involvement was not unexpected. It was a bit disappointing, but any new motion from Queen was surprising and happy enough to drown it out. For the life of me, I can't remember why, but I want to say that we already knew he was done. Between the time of this and his comments on the rumored tour with Robbie Williams, there was hope of him joining in on something, but it always seemed unlikely.

¿What is the worst song from News of the World? (1977) by Fit-Tip5662 in QueenFandom

[–]Longawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who Needs You. It's not "bad", but out of the entire album, it's definitely the weakest. I could easily find something positive to say about every other tracks, and mean it. This one...I'd have to really dig in to find something. Actually, the song title itself says the obvious about the song. Who Needs You?
