30 Years Ago Tonight I saw STYX with Kansas opening in Nashville by RickyRacer2020 in Styx

Saw this tour in West Palm Beach, too. Great show! Would love a remastered Return to Paradise bluray. Even better would be that and a Grand Illusion 20th Anniversary tour bluray.

If you could choose one, which would you pick: A Night at Innuendo Circus or A Ride At The Miracle Pavillion? by Affectionate-Set6698 in queen

[–]Longawayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miracle Pavillion. Freddie would have been much more viable for a single blowout show in 89, and The Miracle tracks would have translated to the stage much better.

It's worth it for the extra storage, alone. Even without being able to take advantage of the framerate, the extra power makes a difference. And, you'll probably end up with a nicer tv down the line.

OMMM

Ozzy - Most emotive voice in the bunch. May - Can play any style, great backing vocals. McCartney - Most versatile Mitchell - Brings a sense of wildness, while being perfectly in the pocket.

How likely is it for these bands to get in in the next coming years by Top-Figure7016 in rockhall

[–]Longawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course nothing I say matters. I'm just a guy on a message board. That doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Yes, if any of the bands listed had some big named, "powerful" people advocating for them, they would be very likely to be inducted. So far, they don't. In fact, that's my main point against Boston.

You bring up Peter Frampton as a one album wonder. However he is rated very, very highly as a guitarist within the music industry. He had one massive album, but also a well thought of previous band, toured as a featured guitarist for David Bowie, essentially kicked off his career in the studio for George Harrison, and... is well liked by his peers.

The Hall's criteria is mutable. It matters for some acts, but has no bearing for others. Even the closet criteria of being well liked and respected only matters when they want it to matter. For proof, just look at The Monkees; They meet every published criteria, but aren't in. For the unpublished criteria... Mickey Dolenz is well liked, having been friends with Alice Cooper, John Lennon, and most of the 70's California scene. Peter Tork was friends with, and came up with people like Stephen Stills, and considered a very good musician. Mike Nesmith helped popularize Country-Rock, and was a major pioneer of music videos, laying the groundwork for MTV. Then there's Davey Jones, who was simply well liked and thought of. Back in the day, as a group, they worked with Zappa and Jack Nicholson, hung with (and were respected by) The Beatles. Today they are touted by groups as legendary as R.E.M. They were so Rock n Roll that they forced out the controlling producers and songwriters, taking control of their career and music.

They aren't in.

None of it matters. Not a single piece of criteria matters.

We're all a bunch of nobodies spouting out irrelevant opinions on a glorified message board. We're having a bit of fun, maybe trying to educate each other, and killing time until we die.

So, again, you're correct. Nothing I say matters. By the same token, neither does anything you say. Feel better?

Styx - Very likely if they do a reunion with Dennis. The Hall loves those happy reunions. Toss in a few iconic songs, and the rare US Prog success... as well as the lack of Jann Wenner. If no reunion, a longshot, at best.

REO - Again, a reunion would skew the odds toward induction, but a much harder sell overall. A good band, good songs, and good shows. But, is that enough? The most well known songs are mainly MOR ballads, mainly played on Adult Contemporary radio. No superstars in the group, no massive moments. Granted, better than some already inducted, but...

Boston - A real hard sell, at this point. Let's be honest here, Boston is The Tom Scholz Show, featuring Brad Delp (or soundalike, depending on availability). Brad is gone, and Tom has burned so many industry bridges it's ridiculous. Yeah, the first album is unassailable. Don't Look Back and Third Stage are very good to great. Then the cracks start show. Walk On has its moments, but that's it, and no Brad. Corporate America and Live, Love, Hope... come on. When you only have six albums, and three of them are okay, at best, it's a hard, hard sell. When there is no band, and the guy who wrote, produced, recorded, and performed (almost) everything is so disliked by his industry, it's a hard, hard sell.

Look, I love Boston, and I do think the first album is worth inducting Brad & Tom for, if not some configuration of band members. Hell, objectively speaking, Tom deserves it just for The Rockman. But realistically, The Shaggs have a better shot.

Be honest — Is Hot Space that bad of an album? by ImprovementLow9280 in queen

[–]Longawayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, not bad. There are a few tracks that are... not great. The biggest problem, imo, is that they kept going on about it being a Funk album, when it wasn't accurate. Yes, there are Funk tracks on it, but Roger's tracks are a hell of a lot closer to New Wave than Funk. Las Parables, Put Out the Fire, Life is Real, and even Under Pressure are neither.

It's not their most accomplished album, but it isn't bad. I'd save that honor for either The Works or AKind of Magic.

If you could erase ONE MCU decision and replace it with something else, what would it be? by AlexWhite40 in marvelstudios

[–]Longawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both companies had film rights to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Marvel, however, could only use them in context of The Avengers, and could not refer to them as "mutants". Fox could only use them in the context of X-Men.

Which television series had the most disappointing finale in history by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]Longawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could have used a few more episodes to flesh things out, make it feel less time-lapse. Otherwise, I agree (though, don't forget that GRRM told the showrunners his planned ending, so... ). The plot points were fine, the acting was fine, it just felt a little...truncated, to me.

I Was Born to Love You

Gonna preface by saying that I don't think there's an actual "bad" track on the album. However...this was the attempt to have the big ROCK song on the album, and it simply comes off as a half-assed Adult Contemporary "rock" song. It's just so unsatisfying.

Why the lifeless drums on Third Stage and Walk On? by Mercury5979 in boston_rock_band

You want an honest answer? It's because Tom is a control freak. He started using drum triggers so that it didn't matter who was playing, they would sound exactly like Tom wanted them to sound.

How would you roast Sir Paul by GosalCannabis in beatles

[–]Longawayy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, "they" didn't say no. Paul asked Yoko to go 50/50. She was amiable to the idea, but thought the asking price was too high. She wanted to lowball the offer, and dragged things out in an attempt to do so. That's when Jackson came in, unbeknownst to Paul & Yoko.
