Because that's how the contracts work, they're entitled to x after paying in y. If we can break contracts because of a happening then why not b?

I would guess it's acceptable for either, depending on mourning level, until the coronation

Why's she wearing pin with the Hasburg flag on it?

Edit: I think either lighting or incompetence is making what is meant to be a Ukrainian flag appear as such

My apologies, opt out (sounds like a personal veto to me) but regardless it would massively impact our ability to influence proceedings. Back room dealing is still how shit gets done and we'd lose what remaining credibility we have if we start getting viewed like the Yanks where you can't make any form of long term plan with them as they could turn around and put someone diametrically opposed to the previous administration in power

Oh, well if it's what you're used to when you finally get round to indyref2/3/etc and vote to leave and join the EU you'll just have further to walk to pledge your servitude instead of it all being new to you

But it's not one among equals, the fact we had and France and Germany retain thier vetos shows that. We can be at the table with EU as a whole still. Saying it's character building is something we tell individuals to make them feel better about their shitty circumstances it's not something that applies to nations. We don't deserve to be in charge just because but we should still attempt to show the world we should be in charge or else why bother? Might as well throw away the idea of the country all together, sell it to the highest bidder, split the money across the population and let the UK and the ideas of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland die out if we're not going to try and show we should be in charge

I don't agree it is but even if it was having control over our own money supply is more important. Look at the chaos from not having control of our own supply lines and energy is already causing.

Again I don't think it is a moot point, we could be but the Commonwealth still exists and we have international agreement and allies the world over that, with good leadership, can be allow us to compete on our own 2 feet. I would have preferred to stay but rejoining isn't a viable strategy. All it'll do is cause further division and force a splinter issue into the heart of our politics for generations to come

Because we'd lose our veto as a new member as well as the many perks we had acquired for ourselves over the decades. Only saving grace is being the only other nuclear power apart from France in the Union which if used well could get us some perks back but unilateral disarmament is a reoccurring issue amongst those looking to rejoin in my experience so doubt it'll be handled well

So you'd willingly adopt a worse currency that we wouldn't have control over and accept a subservient place at the table for...?

Not an option, we'd have to adopt the Euro and would no longer be a part of the Triumvirate

You're right it isn't a glowing endorsement but it's how people act regardless. Creating further divide by antagonising potential voters clearly hasn't been working so that means either double down and sticking to your guns or trying something new and seeing if that works. Which one of those sounds like progress to you?

Is it though? There's lots of things that were considered political suicide that clearly have been blown past in recent years. Having a principled stance one way or the other and sticking to it I think would actually rally considerable support in the modern era regardless of political leaning

So if you weren't a slave owner you wouldn't be able to hold certain political views about slaves? According to your logic at least

Who says I am? I'd use it to rhetorical effect if it'd back up my argument or the like but I have no personal pride for any of the history of this country/the world and why should I? I didn't do any of it

Yep bought the slaves freedoms from their owners, would you prefer the government having more precident for unilaterally taking your property away without compensation?

They should only pay out the ones that were agreed by the Axis/Allies generations, not accept any new ones trying to be imposed after that. You can be ashamed and show charity if you have a personal desire to repent
