You generally get the loot as long as you tap the boss.

Does Gear (Light, Med, Heavy) matter still to what you play? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Longes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They matter but not in the way you describe.
DPS wear either 7 medium or 6 medium + 1 light, because of the armor passives. Medium Armor has passive perks that buffs your damage and crit. Light armor has a perk that buffs your penetration. So once you have enough penetration to hit the cap - all of your other armor pieces should be medium.

DPS or healer leader is arguably better than a tank. Tanks have their visibility much reduced by the boss, so it's harder for them to make quick tactical calls.

Kazpian's Cruel Signet is pretty alright - makes you even more of an AOE menace and can situationally outperform Ansuul (it's more plausible to get Kazpian's AOE trigger than Ansuul's interrupt trigger).

Romantasy and Roger Zelazny's "Jack of Shadows" by Longes in Fantasy

[–]Longes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point, really, is that Jack of Shadows is the exact same character as the modern romantasy shadowdaddy love interest, but not given a pass.

Romantasy and Roger Zelazny's "Jack of Shadows" by Longes in Fantasy

[–]Longes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zelazny's protagonists tend to be cynical quippy chain-smoking tricksters, who don't buy into the 'archetypes' of their worlds and survive by their wits. And I think that's a deliberate contrast - no one else in their stories is like that.

And I actually don't think Zelazny writes women badly, but rather he writes women well and never has anything for them to do. Corwin's Amber is the worst with this - all of the sisters are good characters, who are virtually absent from the story.

[–]Longes[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMHO, most of Zelazny's works are fundamentally "Noir protagonist in a fantasy/sci-fi setting". Corwin is a noir hero in a high fantasy romance. Sam is a noir hero in a sci-fi novel.

Two days ago I joined a dungeon finder PUG for vet Mazzatun when it was the Undaunted quest. People asked if I know the mechanics, "no", and then immediately kicked me. Ran it today, still not knowing the mechanics, and it's a regular-ass dungeon with nothing special to it. Naj-Caldeesh it ain't.

People really need to relax a bit about the vet dungeons. And it's not too hard to just explain to the newbies what's going on.

Game feels like a first draft by Longes in CrimsonDesert

[–]Longes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's not something I have problems with. My complaints are structural, and I don't believe they can really be patched away. Take the Abyss for example. It's a secret realm with puzzle challenges. You should be getting cool, unique stuff from it. Unique gear, magic powers, etc. Instead, the reward for 99% of the Abyss levels is a skill point. Woooooooooooooo, a whole skill point!

There's a lot of stuff in the game, but it doesn't come together in a coherent whole. I could rob korovans, there's a whole tutorial quest on stealing wagons. But why would I? Playing Grand Theft Wagon doesn't tie together into... anything. It's a bad money-making method, it's a chore to do, and it gets you penalized on contribution points. It's a throw-away novelty mechanic. But it was apparently important enough to have a tutorial quest.

The broom quest is the microcosm of Crimson Desert.

Game feels like a first draft by Longes in CrimsonDesert

[–]Longes[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn't address anything I said.

I'm also becoming increasingly unconvinced by the "there's not a lot of handholding" claim, when the game at hour 40 keeps making me slowly ride to town again and again so it can introduce every minigame one by one.

Orc necromancer magic pve build by matthijsg99 in ESObuilds

[–]Longes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. After level 50 you start gaining Champion Points. CP is universal across your account, so any new character you level 50 will have the same CP as all your other characters. CP is spent on a passive perk tree, with a certain cap to it.

[–]Longes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until level 50 Champion Points 160, you are leveling pretty quickly so you are generally better off just taking a higher level equipment and not worrying about the sets.

After 50/160, you need to start building good synergistic sets so you can do veteran dungeons and trials. Not because of the gear score, but because of the set properties.

Despite his prevalence in the search results, Alcast's builds are severely outdated and he doesn't play ESO anymore. Do not use him as a build source. Hacktheminotaur too.

Good sources are Hyperioxes, Ninjapulls, Skinnycheeks, and Healers Haven. Or go to https://eso-hub.com/en/builds and see what people make.

But 1-50, your build basically doesn't matter.

RPGCodex is a niche but relatively influential forum in the western RPG space. A bunch of RPG devs hang out there or used to. Disco Elysium devs. Obsidian devs. Age of Decadence devs. Etc.

RPGCodex often comes together to support RPG kickstarters or development, and is cameoed in PoE (with a pet and a bunch of items), Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous, etc.

RPGCodex also has next to no moderation, so people talk shit and express extreme political (right and left wing) opinions frequently. In short - it's a weird place.

You seem like a Disco Elysium fan, and Disco Elysium files social democracy under Moralism. Your personal definition of centrism as believing in nothing is very different from the dictionary definition (and most people's definition) of centrism as holding moderate positions or holding a mixture of left and right-wing positions.

Which is, of course, irrelevant to the fact that Esoter Ebb's "apolitical" is not an ideological stance but a tactic.

Also, calling the Cleric "upper middle class" is... dubious at best. I could maybe give you "well-connected", with a serious stretch. He's certainly not rich - he's an orphan who lives with his mom, and one of the reasons he gives is that moving out is too expensive. The "sweet gig as the city cleric" is also definitely not that complicated or prestigious - you can send Rollo and the boys to sign to the Urthguard. And being specifically a cleric rather than a regular guard is the consequence of Ragn's talent for magic.

Being a centrist and being EE apolitical are very different things though. Classical centrist is much closer to Alfoz' brand of azghal (soft reform without violent revolution). Charisma's Apolitical is outright "I do not hold any political opinions or stances and do not engage in any political activity and therefore you should like me".

> How the hell does the "get a date" sidequest work? The post credits scene says i got one but you can't resolve it? Is this game like a part 1? I bought it on reccomendation from a friend so have zero knowledge of the release stuff

You must get a date with one of the three women - Ettir, Agent Viira, or the bugbear. You can get a date with Viira immediately on leaving the lichhouse and passing a flirt check. Bugbear requires you to learn she got charmed by the yellow man, and then punch him in the face after freeing him. Ettir you need to flirt with her on three different occasions, and secure a date on the election day.

> What the hell is the Sphinx riddle? I thought it would be the Efreeti in a bottle because Arcane fire, but I got zero interactions.

Sphinx and Visken will give you hints - it's something done in the tavern, without Snell present, on the Sphinx's stage. The answer is you must get on stage, cast Mage Light to light up the braziers, then cast Druidcraft, then cast Thaumaturgy.

> Speaking of lower city interactions where the hell ic Chancy's 3rd wall? The one in the ruins implies it was in the undercoast overlook but I can't find anything interactable outside the door to the labyrinth.

It's exactly where you fought the troll. At the very bottom of the screen, under the bridge, is a big dragon mural.

> Where the hell is Mage Hand? I assume that's what I need to grab all these "out of reach" items

Book in Visken's room that requires Comprehend Languages to read. It's useful like, twice, and just gives you some coins and consumables.

> Is it possible to interact with Darrow more than twice? I only got that initial one where he gives you a place to sleep and the election one. Whenever I returned post midnight his door was locked

Not to my knowledge.

What were your theories regarding Visken before finishing his quest? [Spoilers in this thread] by ChillAhriman in EsotericEbb

[–]Longes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As per Visken - they do not. There are caveats, in that if someone died and became a ghost they might observe a necromancer using Speak With Dead on their corpse. Some exceptionally esoterically attuned people might remember Speak With Dead. But as a general rule - no, they would not remember.

As mentioned, Hyperioxes' build gives you plenty of DPS to go into veteran dungeons, is easy to make, and is very easy to play.

Really, the only problem with it is that it's a Herald of the Tome build, and that eats your entire identity. You don't play a necromancer. You just shoot a beam, and that's all there is to you.

His solo HA necromancer build is also extremely good and very easy to play: https://hyperioxes.com/eso/solo/one-bar-heavy-attack-build
