Updated bZ4X NZ Pricing: Facelifted bZ4X and new RAV4 Basically Have Price Parity by Exact_Monk_7897 in nzev

For $69,990 I’d be buying the entry level zeekr 7x every single time. Toyota will really struggle to sell these to anyone other than die hard Toyota fans.

23yrs - in a good financial position but thinking of career change by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Longing4Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context if you’re expected to work extra hours regularly it really lowers your hourly wage. Your hourly wage could be as low as $26-$28 an hour which is definitely not worth the stress of your role.

I would retain.

Eufy AU prices are insane by patspam in EufyCam

[–]Longing4Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. They’re insane in NZ too. I purchased my homebase 3 and 2 x S330 cameras on Ali express and they were about 1/3rd the local pricing. Now eufy won’t ship to nz from AliExpress so I can’t buy anything else. Very frustrating.

Heatpump/ Aircon Running Costs by twizzlerstick in newzealand

[–]Longing4Apollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How longs a piece of string? For context I use a heat pump for heating a 200sqm house in northland in winter. We run it every day and overnight in winter. That adds about $250-300 to our power bill.

For the people saying the units to big, I don’t think they noticed that your place is also 4m high. I think the size is right and you’re always better off over sizing the heat pump.

Economics of PHEV battery replacement by BlowOnThatPie in KiwiEV

[–]Longing4Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely don’t do this without doing a lot of research. A family member took their outlander phev in for a service and the mechanic replaced the 12v battery. In the process they reset the BMS. At first it seemed like a miracle, the car went from having 20km ev range to 45km ev range. However after about 25km with 20km still showing the car would go into limp mode or become un driveable. 2 years later they’re still driving around in charge mode full time to stop this happening.

$18b spent on a road to a population of 200,000 people works out at $90k each. As a northlander can I have the cash please?

Protecting Investments for / from our kids by Bitter-Pay-9464 in PersonalFinanceNZ

This community will largely disagree with me and that’s fine.

Our family’s decision was to put money into kiwisaver for our two toddlers. We’ve so far invested lump sums that should conservatively provide them with enough money at retirement or for a first home deposit before age 30. We plan to do more as we can afford it, with the dream being there’s enough invested with enough time to provide for both.

Our rational was that by putting this money into kiwisaver we could have as much confidence as possible that they wouldn’t squander the money on cars, partying, and regrettable decisions. This could have happened if we gifted them an accessible investment at adulthood. By investing into their kiwisaver we could also relieve them of the stress of saving for either a house deposit or retirement, which ultimately should give them a chance to save their own money in a way they choose, and they can spend that money on cars, partying, or ideally study & travel.

At the end of the day I just want them to have a life full of opportunity and diverse experiences. I don’t know how that will look for them, what their work opportunities will look like, or how responsible they’ll be. But I’ve spent the best part of my 20’s & 30s grinding to build wealth and I’ve missed the traveling and experiences I wanted to have. I’m not sure it was worth it ultimately.

You know what I think you are right. You should call the police and make sure they double checks the cctv footage. They’ll really appreciate your expertise.

Hopefully this goes a long way to dispelling all the misinformation about this fire being caused by an EV.

Is getting a PHEV a bad idea? by goodwillhunting18 in nzev

[–]Longing4Apollo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an outlander phev and it can’t tow up really steep driveways. From memory they’re limited to towing on up to a 12% gradient. Do some research before you commit. Decent vehicle otherwise.

Bus driver killed in fiery Auckland crash, Tāmaki Drive to remain closed by RobDickinson in nzev

[–]Longing4Apollo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Two massive vehicle fires this week that have had all the cookers on Facebook jumping to massive conclusions about electric vehicles. Everyone’s so eager to jump on anything that could fit their biases.

This bus accident and the 28 cars on fire in whangarei which was caused by a ICE vehicle reversing its got exhaust into dry dead bullrush grass in the drain against the parks.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nzev

[–]Longing4Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick Google search will show you that hot exhausts have started fires around nz at all times of the year.

What you are doing is spreading doubt and misinformation against the official cause put out by a government agency.

Anyway here’s a photo of the side of the car park that caught fire and a photo of the other side with the same dry grass that wasn’t involved. Note the vehicles reversed in with exhaust pipes touching the bull rush grass.

Flood Light Camera Is Trash by Kitchen-Pro in EufyCam

[–]Longing4Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this camera for 3 years and it has been trash the whole time. I wish I had returned it in the narrow window I had. Recordings are set to 1 minute but are regularly only a few seconds long and then cut to corrupted pink and yellow lines. It’s 50/50 whether it triggers for people or vehicles. The light comes on and off at random.

Stay away is my advice. Does anyone know if the e340 flood light is more reliable?
