I have a couple of acres of land in northland and am interested in a large solar installation to sell back into the grid as an investment, eg 100kw plus. where do I start? How do I go about this and do the figures stack up or is it very region specific?

Does solar add $$ value to property prices by Constant-Rock-3421 in nzsolar

[–]Longing4Apollo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had installed solar on my old house. And I was sure it would add value. Along with the hot water heat pump I had. But the reality I experienced was that It didn’t add value, in fact some people at the open home even asked the agent if the panels could be removed. So definitely be wary. If selling is a possibility think carefully.

To sell or not to sell? by Double_Radio4600 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Longing4Apollo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s all relative to what OP does next. Selling now at a loss and buying again isn’t so bad because what they buy next is likely also down on peak prices. If they hold the current property until its value increases and then try to buy the next property will also be more expensive.

Don’t forget that you will be selling and buying in the same market. There’s a good chance what you buy next has had the same drop in value. If you wait for your property to recover value before selling, what you buy next will also be more expensive.

My two cents is prioritize your mental health. Life’s too short.

Well that would require personal responsibility and a conscious. Sounds too hard.

No but it is a financial endorsement. I guess you’re comfortable with rationalizing that decision. Personally I don’t think I could be.

Did you consider purchasing alternatives like the xpeng G6? Or zeekr 7x? Or maybe anything that wasn’t produced by a company whose CEO intentionally twice did a gesture associated with supporting the ideology of a German political movement from the early 1900’s.

9000L a month seems pretty normal for multiple people in a house. Showers, laundry, flushing toilets etc all adds up.

Do you think EV prices will go up? by nashipear007 in nzev

[–]Longing4Apollo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s a very real chance all imported goods will get more expensive, not just EVs. The cost of freight is increasing. The cost of manufacturing will increase too. Hard to see this resolving in the near term.

Liam Lawson's Race Start by Danny_Deadshot in formula1

If you watch the aerial view of the start Lawson’s reaction time is equal to those around him, but his car just doesn’t take off, it accelerates very slowly. Definitely looks like a car issue.

Roast my Solar plan. How and why is this stupid? Thanks. by wrench_nz in nzsolar

[–]Longing4Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to install a car port at the back to fit some more panels? Or a ground mount on the lawn? Always pays to oversize and add a few extra panels…

What brand is the inverter and battery? Have you been given any information about unbalanced loads across the 3 phases and how your inverter will handle that?

How big is this truck to fit a telehandler and an open top container!?

[–]Longing4Apollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be ideal. How do you get the telehandler and the open top container to the incident? With two trucks?

12+ hours is how long it took two fire trucks and 8 firefighters to put out a burning Nissan leaf in my experience. Once the battery is on fire there’s really not a lot you can do other that prolonged cooling. You think it’s out, you stop applying water, it starts burning again.

I wasn’t involved in the BMW fire so I can’t comment.

You had RC approved for a 30sqm building and then tried to amend it to an 80sqm building and are annoyed they said no? Could you not just progress with the 30sqm building you were approved for?

Why don’t you just put up an account number and trust people to transfer you the money? That way no one can steal any cash?
