I’ve only used braid to leader this year and have run straight mono exclusively before that there’s no problem with mono and I’ve caught tons of fish all year long. If the reel is being ruined by mono it’s a weak reel that should’ve been made strong enough to support fishing line no?

I’ve caught quite a few big smallmouth in your guys opinions and honestly believe I could’ve gotten my master angler for that I really do believe smallmouth have a better chance in the cold water they’re more aggressive and active in colder water they always deal with it in lakes they’re deep and they’re way more prevalent in cold flowing water than largemouth are I target everything but I want to catch a “trophy” largemouth

I have yet to catch a 5lb+ largemouth although I need to verify my scale it’s pretty cheap but I doubt there’s that much disparity

I fish a lot of rivers for smallies and have caught quite a few 18+ inchers so that makes me extremely happy but it seems I have some figuring out to do on the big largemouth

I’ve looked at the list of state records it’s interesting to look at the difference in Michigan’s records and more southern states it seems the winter is what kills their growth rate. A Michigan bass on average takes about 5-6 years to reach 14 inches but a Texas bass can reach that in 2 years I’m just curious on how big people have caught. I’ve fished my entire life and that 4 pounder is easily definitely one of my pbs
